My experience at Village Coffee Shop left a lot to be desired for. I pass by this cute place every morning on my way to school, and it always is packed with happy looking customers. I thought it would be a great place to try for breakfast and was sad that my experience was so bad. We came to the restaurant around 8:30 on a Saturday morning so we expected it to be busy; we eventually got a table (You kind of have to fight for tables as there isn’t anyone sitting people, not a complaint just a minor annoyance when someone snags a table you were waiting on.) and looked through the menu. There didnt seem to be much variety of pancakes, buttermilk and one other plus the special for today. That was really all I saw so decided to go for a stack of buttermilk pancakes. We waited probably 15 minutes until our server decided to come over and take our order. I got a class of Orange juice, and my companion a cup of tea. The only tea offered was Green, White or Black. We saw they had Celestial tea of various flavors but those weren’t offered to us. Instead she brought back a half full cup of hot water and a Cosco generic brand of plain Green Tea. After that we never even could catch her long enough to ask for anything else. Now, the pancakes are HUGE. A stack is more than probably anyone can eat in one sitting. I was very enthused when our breakfast arrived. Completely ready to tear into my cakes, but upon the first bite I realized they had burned my pancakes or something got mixed into the batter because mine were not very appetizing. My companion got the special of the day and said they were good, so maybe they just burned them or something like that. My real complaint is the quality of the service. It was just lacking completely. I realize the place was busy, but there are other breakfast places with the same volume (Tangerine and Snooze to name two) that dont have this customer service problem. Our service never said anything to us other than when she asked what we wanted. She frequently blew by our table and never had a smile on her face even once. Probably won’t be returning, it might be hit or miss with this place. Sorry!

Usually I love this place, friendly staff, fast, cheap, tasty food but today i wish i had never walked in. I guess they have a new waitress, Summer, she seemed miserable the entire time and never once looked us in the eye. As soon as we walked in she didnt look up, but instead rudely said "sit anywhere" without noticing 3 empty tables covered in dishes from past guests. (she easily could have cleared one for us) anyway once we were seated she got us water and coffee (no cream) a few minutes later threw a handful of cream on the table and walked away (not saying anything) eventually she came back and took our order and seemed annoyed when we had questions, when she came back with our food she said she would get us more water. several minutes later i look up and shes sitting eating food, more time passes this time she has a vape pen or E-cig (im not sure which) in her mouth as she walks out the side door....STILL NO WATER. So we get up and walk to the counter to get out water cups filled by the owner. And we finish our food. This woman did not come back to the table one time after the food was in front of us. usually we have a great experience and the owner and the other woman that work their are always such sweethearts and make sure we enjoy everything. They should fire summer because if i go there again with her working i will probably leave. However when we told the owner we were unhappy with our service she happily took care of the breakfast charge. I dont want this one employee ruining the image of a nice affordable breakfast place.

I dont understand the reviews from others. We walked in to find a rude hostess and many, many signs listing all of their rules. There are many things you cant do, so be sure to read everything (yes, really!). It really started us off on the wrong foot and it just got worse. We sat in a booth for two and there wasnt much room -- I wouldnt recommend bringing your coat or a big bag in with you. The floor and walls were dirty, and the kitchen floor was a mess. There was a garbage can next to the grill. I visited the one bathroom and it was really dirty. The food? I had the chicken fried steak. It was only okay, but they covered it with a blindingly white "gravy" that was very thick and not flavorful. The potatoes were instant, I think, and the peas were canned. Even my toast wasnt very good. How is that possible? My friend had a breakfast platter that looked much better, but she said it was only okay. Surprisingly, the place was packed for lunch. People seemed to enjoy it. Maybe its the low prices? I guess Im glad we tried it, but we wont be back. If youre claustrophobic, move on to the next diner.

Came here thinking itd be a great spot to take my girlfriend on a Sunday morning. When we arrived we could see the place was packed, which is to be expected in Boulder on a Sunday morning. However we couldnt fit in the front waiting area because it was so small, also not a big deal. It was when we just stood outside with the door open that the host stopped everything he was doing and said very rudely to close the door and basically just made us wait on the other side of the closed door like dogs. I get that it was busy, but it was still no reason to just snap at us. No food is good enough to merit that kind of service, and with dozens of other breakfast places that are easily as good as this place, I will never be back.

Ive been eating here for 35 years. This place is deeply ingrained in my own family history, and is most certainly a Boulder icon. Its a loud busy very reasonably priced greasy spoon. A few of the waitresses have been here as long as I have. I find it the very definition of comfort. If you go, get the french toast. Its not like ANY other french toast youve ever had, I promise. I dont think Ive ordered anything else in over a decade. But I still feel confident enough to review the place as their menu hasnt changed its offerings since I was a kid.

What a great vibe, service and food. Fair prices for great food. Especially like the french toast, blueberry pancakes and cream gravy. Make sure to let the waitress know its your first visit for a treat. Probably the best cream and sausage gravy Ive ever had, although the biscuits were a bit flat. The chicken fried steak was very good. I tasted the french toast and blueberry pancakes and they were excellent. The food is overall some of the best diner fare ever. The service is quick, friendly and polite. If theres a line, wait.

Longtime favorite breakfast spot for Boulder locals. Quick, seat yourself service - an open kitchen style diner. Super buttery hashbrowns compliment a variety of breakfast or lunch options, with daily specials and slices of pie. Dont be afraid to get 2 half orders of buscuits and gravy and frenxh toast... onviously with a side of hashbrowns topped with homemade gravy. The staff is friendly, attentive, and quick. Dont forget to let them know if you have never been in before, you get a special surprise!
