I *really* wanted Ramen for my birthday dinner. Its been cold and windy out and I just wanted something light. After ruling out a few places I found this restaurant. My boyfriend was kind enough to order and pick up take out for us. He said that this place was really cute and looked like it would be a good place to go back to for date night some time. He also said that since it was a weeknight he had no issues with parking but could see it turning into a nightmare on nights that were busy. That said - I ordered the Tokyo Ramen and he ordered the Mon Original Ramen. Funny enough, when I tasted mine I didnt really like it (Tokyo Ramen has seaweed and it was throwing me off). So we switched right away and were both very happy! We both got spice level 1 and I found it to be the perfect burn I was looking for. I cant wait to go to the restaurant some day to try other things on their menu. Im really happy I found this place!

Dont normally write reviews. Live right down the street and finally tried this place out in lieu of my other fav sushi joints. First off, they all greet you when you walk in, they play Bob Marley like no tomorrow (hence their name Mon). Sushi and Marley...best combo ever? I was simply amazed at how fresh the fish was. The salmon melted like butter, other cuts just melted in my mouth. While I was there, they were cutting big slabs off a huge tuna (almost 200 lbs!) and surprised my table a sashimi plate of it on the house. Very nice of them, and was certainly not disappointed. They have a decent decor, not too fancy but this shouldnt matter if all you want is killer food. Service was great, even when the place got busy..and it did get packed as the meal progressed. I will be coming back regularly as they have proved to me they can really get choice and fresh cuts, with pretty good service to boot.

I have followed Yuji and his wife Nori from Brothers Sushi to Mon Japanese Restaurant and I havent turned back. They are very welcoming and have a great sense of humor. For a real treat, pull up a stool close to Yuji. He has a great crazy laugh and serves generous cuts of sushi. The atmosphere is close knit but cozy. If youre not being treated to reggae music, you will most likely hum along to Diana Krall or some other jazz great. The song list is repetitive but not bothersome. I highly recommend Mon for the yummy miso eggplant and some rockin spicy dishes whipped up by Yuji. Make sure to try the Kobe roll. If youre lucky youll spy some local celebs who are just as much fans of Yuji as he is of theyre music or acting.

The owner was very rude and cursed us out because we said that his toro (that we didnt even order) was to chewi , I though he just gave us the piece to try and it turned out to be the worst toro Ive ever tried my wife and I both spit it out but played it off cause didnt want to be rude, my wife wanted to give him advice and told him the truth and said that the fish was so so and the toro was chewy, and complimented that the owner was nice and thats why we came back. Then the owner gets mad and goes to the back and starts cussing us out indirectly. I will never come here ! money is no issue to me charge as much as you want but dont serve rotten fish you MF PIECE OF brown stuff, you dont curse at me or my wife! Ffff uuuu

We eat here frequently due to the quality of the sushi and the service. The owner, Yuji, and his wife, Noriko, go out of their way to make you feel like family. Parking can be challenging, as its metered street parking with a small lot behind the restaurant. My kids especially love their Garlic Spinach. Im partial to their Lady Go-Go roll - its delicious! Hot tip: they have a Happy Hour Menu where items are discounted; its a great deal!

I was caught in traffic coming back to the airport from a business trip to Santa Barbara I got the GPS to bring me to this wonderful place. What a haven and the food is wonderful. It is warm and freindly and seems to have a loyal following. Im so thankful to find such a great place and spend time here rather than in traffic. If you want down home Japanese this is your place to come. Its small and even late on this Sunday night its hopping.

Mon is a small and intimate Japanese restaurant consisting of a sushi bar and only about 5 tables. I was always told that you will find good sushi at small Japanese restaurants like this, and Mon is no exception. The sushi I had was fresh and delicious. They also have a really great value in their combinations because they come with a lot of food for a pretty fair price. The service was great and I highly recommend coming here.

The sushi was fresh and delicious. The staff was super friendly. But they served me some swill that was supposed to be ramen. An aberation of water, beef broth, and noodles. The green onions were rancid and left a bitter taste in my mouth thats making me gag. Worst soup Ive ever had.

My favorite sushi spot. Casual dress, good food, good service. I like everything especially spinach, sounds weird but its so good. All the sushi is excellent. Live uni personal favorite. Yugi roll named after owner and chef. Never had a bad experience in 9 years.

This restaurant is absolutely great. My favorite is the Fire Truck, it has this very spicy sauce with spicy tuna and tuna and avocado on top. This restaurant has fresh live Sea Urchin, people love it, and so you most hurry before they sell out. Every Day.

Spending nearly 11 years in Japan its been difficult to find a quality sushi restaurant close to the quality of that abroad. The menu, preparation, presentation, portions and most of all quality and freshness of fish is excellent. What a find-

Mon Japanese Restaurant has some pretty good rolls! But after coming here so long its starting to impress me less with their quality of food. Tasty stuff, but compared to the first time I went, the Hashims freshness has gone down.

I have been going to this place for over a decade. Yuji the owner is very sweet and genuine. The sushi servings are absolutely the largest in town. Also always playing reggae music.

They do not To-Go Soup Mon Japanese Restaurant here no soup stuff can be to-go. After walking a distance in the heat to learn this, it was quite a disappointment.
