The Shiki San Mateo Restaurant is fantastic. My husband and I eat there about once a week. Cute little place. Great food and service. I highly recommend the honey crunch roll! They recently opened a Shiki Bistro in San Carlos. DONT GO THERE!!!!! The atmosphere is really nice and they do have a full bar, however, the food and service is atrocious! We have been about 4-5 times and had the same experience every time. The food is NOT made the same...salad is wilted, not fresh and dressing is not the same as Shiki San Mateo. The rolls are not worth ordering either. The servers ALWAYS got our order wrong...EVERY time! Dont understand how two of the same restaurant with the same owners can be so different. But I do know we wont be going back to Shiki Bistro in San Carlos.

Had a huge hankering for sushi after getting a few things from the Whole Foods next door. I popped in around the middle of the lunchtime rush, so I had expected to wait a few minutes at the least. I gladly accepted to grab a seat at the counter since it was just myself. Ordered the Chirashi lunch and got a small salad and bowl of miso soup before it came. Always a good choice for anyone who prefers their sashimi and rice separately. The service was great, despite it being busy. The waiter checked up on me every once in a while and refilled my beverage. A nice atmosphere and wonderful staff will encourage me to return soon. One of the recommendations for this restaurant was their honey crunch roll. Honey walnut prawns...in sushi? Yes, Ill definitely have to come back for that.

Not bad at all. And for some reason they have the most amazing lemonade (really! Its weird!) Anyhow while it wont be confused with Godzilla in the city for example, it is a big step above the sushi youre going to get at a supermarket. I used to like the place down at Carlmont a bit better but they changed ownership and raised prices so we now prefer Shiki. Nothing fancy to look at inside, but a wide variety of rolls and very reasonably priced. Its now our local go to place for sushi (and cray good lemonade!)

Very good Japanese restaurant. Excellent sushi, sashimi and rolls. Great bentos. My favorite version of Seafood udon. Tempura light and not oily. Have a number of varieties of Saki. Service is always good. Gets VERY busy at lunch and in the evenings and theres only a couple of chairs right a the door to wait. They have a sushi bar, so thats always an option.

Totally amazing sushi. Definitely try the Dragon Roll (sometimes they have a special that has crab on top of it- its also a must try). Great selection of rolls- especially if you like Eel. Nice selection of drinks- including a imported Japanese Rice beer (delicious). Great prices - they have a nice happy hour special (food/drink) everyday of the week.

Great food and fast service, although the atmosphere is way off. I came alone and a waitress (not my server) came by and said "alone?" I said yes she says "ooohhh" then walks to the sushi chef amd says something in Chinese to him, he looks DIRECTLY at me, after she continues to hoover around me making me feel very uncomfortable. Racist?

Was a great experience! I took my lovely girlfriend out to eat here on a whim, and she loved it! Would highly reccomend to anybody and everybody that is a lover of the sushi stuff!

Its not the best sushi, or food, but its the closest in location. The teriyaki sauce is disgusting & slimy. The sashimi is not that good. The rolls are ok.

Sushi are on the average side. Dont show up after 9pm on a Friday... you will know you are not welcome.

Although I normally prefer nigiri and sashimi, but this place has some really good rolls.
