From their food truck, I know they have kick as fries and decided to try more items at their brick and mortar since I live so close to this one. I got the Short Rib Koja as my main meal and it’s actually pretty filling despite how the size looks. I like the “buns” of rice as they are crispy and the short rib is tender and SUPER flavorful. I also tried some of the chicken bowl and surprisingly the brown rice (which I’m typically not a fan of) is really good. It has a good soy sauce flavor and doesn’t have the texture of crunchy bird seeds. And of course, I got the kamakazi fries which are still really good because they’re waffle fries and loaded with mean and delicious sauces. Overall, it was a good and flavorful meal.

I have walked past Koja Kitchen in San Mateo numerous times. After noticing they have a few vegetarian options, I decided to give them a try. It exceeded my expectation. I tried the Teriyaki Zen Koja, which is a soy and portobello mushroom patty on a fried garlic rice "bun". Wow. Theres some serious flavor going on here. I really like the flavor and texture of the "bun" and the pineapple and various sauces give it a sweet and salty vibe. The Teriyaki Zen Bowl uses the same patty and similar toppings as above. Its not as ground-breaking as the Koja, but its a tasty vegetarian rice bowl. Ill definitely be adding this place to my regular rotation!

Beef bowl was legit. Decent portion, taste and speed. One of the newer restaurants in San Mateo Downtown, so I figured I had to give it a try. It was fairly quiet when I visited in a weekend mid-day. Ordered a beef bowl, waited for approx 4-5mins and it was ready. I was surprised at the portion, good amount of rice, meat, veg and kimchi. They have a video on loop and it appears they started from a food truck. Always great to see how food truck business expands into brick-and-mortar store. Theres another just across the street too. Look forward to visit again to try their rice burgers.

The Korean Beef Taco had great flavor. We also had Kamakaze Fries, the Pork Taco and The Original Koja. To be honest, the portions are small, they give you no plate and our food was warm; barely. It seemed like a bunch of kids running it and one was even being very loud; almost like a sushi chef but in a immature way. Theyve got a lot of potential with their food style and menu but if they dont do something different to bring it up a notch, I dont see it lasting. Very flavorful though!! Just make sure your food is hot.

Had an ahi and salmon salad It wasnt what I expected (think like sashimi on spring mix). The portions were matching the price in my opinion (youd pay double for a salad that size at whole foods). Taste was ok, some lettuce was soggy and brown. Id say stick to the koja and fries. I didnt try them, but if I were looking for a healthy salad again, Id go elsewhere. Music was very loud, and the place was very crowded with no sitting room and a wait to sit.

Fast, cheap, delicious, and relatively healthy; do I need to say more? If not, to bad, I will. I have been going into this location on an infrequent basis, but every time the employees greet me right away, and are always super friendly! The food comes out in matter of minutes, but the quality is as if it took a while to craft. I love their chicken koja, it has rice patties with Bbq chicken between. It is a little messy, but it is worth it.

Big fan of Koja, including the San Mateo, Berkeley c and SF locations. Delicious sauces and powerful flavors covering your choice of short rib, beef, pork, chicken, soy mushroom patty, ahi tuna, or salmon sashimi, served in a variety of styles: koja (rice patty burger), tacos, rice bowls, salad, or crisscut waffle fries. They also have a variety of chicken wings. Yummmmm!

Stumbled in right before the lunch rush and was happily surprised. I had a braised pork Koja, Kamikaze fries, and a Sapporo which came to about 20 with tip. Overall the food was super tasty and filling, but a little salty and it seemed like I paid what felt like 2 dollars too much. Ill come back for sure but with someone with me to help me take down a side a fries.

Amazing!!! Food is so good and came out quickly. Its a small and cozy place, probably enough seating for 25 people at a time. They have one bathroom in the back thats surprisingly clean and tidy. I say that because you have to go around a corner that feels like youre walking in the employee area that is well trafficked and next to a trash can/storage area.

Ordered this for lunch at work. The food a very greasy but good. The price for quantity is unbalanced it seems a bit expensive for what you get. I know this is a new restaurant (in San mateo even though they have food trucks) but they had a problem with splitting my order but I had to figure it out on my end. Ill give this place another try sometime.

Came in while they were doing a soft opening on June 19th during the San Mateo street fair, and the food is already up to speed in terms of the familiar tastiness and presentation, just like the food truck. Had the Beef Koja, the Short Rib Bowl and the Chicken Koja. All excellent. Good, friendly and efficient service.

Had the chicken bowl with fried egg, the size was decent for the price and the chicken was tasty. Its known for its burger with rice buns, should try that out next time. **Updated** Finally tried their famous rice buns burger and it definitely lived up to its hype! Im coming here again.

Very disappointing from the great truck experience. Rice was too hard it can crunch off your teeth. Beef was tough and hard. Where was the great truck experience with soft tender beef and high quality rice. It can not survive if things dont improve fast!

This is a store front door Koja food truck. Service was super fast, and food was great. Same great taste at the food truck. Restaurant is pretty small, so seating can be sparse during the dinner rush.

Nice staff, food was fresh and well prepared. Not exactly to my taste but I could appreciate the quality and flavors. A little on the saucy side.
