I have been to Hyde Street Seafood House twice now and the food has been simply terrible. The only thing I will say is that the Bisque is good, but that does not make up for the poor quality of the main courses. We decided to give it second try, after a poor meal the first time, on Valentines day surprisingly it had gotten worse. I worked at a seafood restaurant for about a year, and while I am no expert I think I have a little knowledge of seafood. I ordered the Halibut that had absolutely no taste. The vegetables that came with it were fine, but I didnt order it for that. My girlfriend ordered the Cioppino and that was equally as bad. It tasted worse than had it come out of can, which I am convinced that it did. I have never written a review about a restaurant before, but after this experience I am compelled to do so. Pricing is normal for seafood, but the quality of the food does not justify the price at all.

My wife and I were pleasantly surprised after we randomly stumbled upon this neighborhood gem tucked away after looking for good seafood in the neighborhood were staying in. It was Sunday evening so the place wasnt terribly busy but this lent to a quite atmosphere and an attentive wait staff. The food was unpretentious but quite good, we had clam chowder, Kumamoto oysters and Crab Mornay en Croute, all well prepared and fresh. Prices were reasonable (considering the shock-inducing prices of some seafood establishments), and the wine list was modest but sufficient. The staff seemed to be a family, extremely friendly and genuinely happy to have you as a guest. Highly recommended for those looking for an escape from the tourist traps and want to enjoy a quiet meal in a charming neighborhood location.

We stopped in tonight for dinner since it was close to our hotel. What a great dinner!! The lobster bisque was the best Ive ever had, it was full of pureed lobster and the bisque was so rich and creamy. My wife and I split a large bowl. For the entree, she had fettuccine with smoked salmon, scallops and shrimp. I had stuffed prawns Bearnaise (lobster, scallops, shrimp & crab meat stuffing). The vegetables with mine were really good, thyme roasted potatoes, broccoli, little baby brussel sprouts, zucchini and green beans. The total bill was $49.10, really reasonable.

The food was average, I went there for oyster and a glass of champagne. Oyster was good champagne not served in glass. It is ok no problem ..... I will take a beer. Beer was good and I ask for another one ! Never arrived but properly add in the bill together with a 10 box error in the sum and a complain from the French waiter , I gave you the second one ! Make the long story shot , I exit the restaurant with Drought, with the confirmation that French are not good on service . Stay away there is other beautiful place in the area.

The seafood is topnotch at this quaint hole in the wall location in Nob Hill. Their signature plates are cooked in traditional French style, wrapping the fish in parchment paper surrounded by veggies. The local sea bass I had was so juicy and flavorful I could barely look up from my plate. Definitely get the lobster bisque its phenomenal and you will go through more bread than you want to to soak up every drop off it. The stuffed prawns were almost too rich but, that didnt stop us from clearing the plate. Go here! Its amazing!

I came here with a friend from out of town. He really wanted seafood, and I wanted to try something new in the city. So I came here, as I saw the Yelp reviews to be good and all. We had reservations for 2, and were quickly seated. Service was great. However, the food was meh. We had ordered the following: 1) LOBSTER BISQUE: Would recommend. 2) CIOPPINO SERVED WITH PASTA: I must say, Sotto Mare was a lot better still. 3) DUNGENESS CRAB MORNAY EN CROUTE: Was not a big fan of this... Overall, Ive had better. Sorry.

My father and I wanted to go to a good seafood restaurant while we were visiting San Francisco. We came across Hyde Street Seafood, and decided to try it. It had a pleasant atmosphere, and we had a wonderful three-course meal. I would recommend this restaurant to people who have a taste for fine seafood. It is not to casual but isn't impossibly fancy and strict about dress codes, etc. It is perfect for families. Without a doubt, I shall return to that restaurant the next time I am in San Francisco.

Came for the happy hour oysters which were a good price and tasty. Everything else on the menu was aggressively priced and looking at dishes coming out, they looked tiny. It feels like they were using oysters for customer acquisition since they were extremely rude that we didnt order anything other than oysters. They also tried scamming us with water - we asked for water and they brought out bottled. We immediately clarified that there was a cost and that we just wanted normal water.

Was there for Oyster happy hour. They gave us a basket of bread and some butter and said it was "complimentary". We had a large group and the basket was not enough for even one piece per person. We asked for another basket (since it was complimentary) 4 times before we actually got it after getting second round of drinks and oysters. They also like to rev up the bill which I guess is not unusual :/ My overall experience was just ok

We had a very nice dinner with our friends here, tried the crab cakes, the spicy prawns and the chowder for starters. I had my first Cioppino (as far as I can remember) and really liked it, the others had some fish in papillote, potato crusted salmon and Cajun style prawns and scallops - all very good. The bread pudding was hot and delicious, the creme brulée light and fluffy and the secret coffee was interesting ;o). Enjoy!

Weve been coming to Hyde St Seafood for a number of years. I guess youd call us locals. We almost always order the same thing because we are never disappointed. Start with the seafood salad (great combination of greens along with crab and shrimp). Then, we get the seafood en papillote that are also cooked with potatos and mixed vegetables. The sea bass or halibut are favorites. Its healthy and tasty. Kid friendly.

Oysters here are to die for especially during their happy hour which is 7 days a week! Another must is their lobster bisque. We always enjoy the whole dungeness crab. People also enjoy their fresh fish. Come by and enjoy the family atmosphere at this incredible family run restaurant which has been here for a generation and hopefully with continue for generations more.

Went for happy hour oysters and to satisfy a craving for lobster bisque. The decor is nautical and kind of quaint, which I love. The service was great and the food was delicious. I felt bad that we didnt stay and have a main course, but we just wanted a quick bite. Recommend checking this place out.

This is a small, family owned restaurant, with a ton of charm. We went twice when visiting the area, and got great service and food both times, although a little patience was needed on the busy Saturday night. If you like to try local places, this is a really nice one.
