This place has won me over to the Taco side. Ive never cared too much for tacos really. I dont mind them, but have never really understood why people get so excited to go for tacos. Now, after trying Oscars, I cant wait for my next trip back to San Diego to grab some more. The experience started with the Battered Fish Taco. In my opinion, this one was your family run of the mill taco. It was good, but its the same type of taco that developed my initial indifference regarding tacos. Also, this taco is the cheapest taco they offer and for $1.99 a taco I could definitely see myself grabbing a few of these for a quick, cheap meal At this point, Im just thinking to myself that we took an Uber all the way here from La Jolla for an average dinner, but then I continue to eat (and try what my group had ordered)... Surf and Turf Taco - Mmmmm Battered Shrimp Taco - Would look forward to eating this again Carnitas (I think - friend ordered this off the side menu I didnt see) Taco - I wish I hard ordered some for myself Taco Especial - How do I find a way to take this home with me on the plane? I should have written the review closer to the day I visited so I could properly describe the taste, but all I can tell you for sure was that these tacos were incredible. I wasnt sure if I was going to go in and find another overhyped taco shop (there were definitely a few in San Diego), but came out very pleasantly surprised with my life perspective on tacos completely changed. Just as a footnote, the place does have very limited seating/standing room and is not the easiest place to find in the dark, but honestly just deal with it...its worth it...trust me.

It is the best of the best. You must come to this location..TRUST ME. it makes a difference. From their sauce to their service, even to the ambiance. To get the full experience of Oscars you must come here even if you have to stand outside. I was once the duchess and came here at least every week for my order of 2 surf and turf tacos and shrimp ceviche. I cant even explain how amazing this place is but what I must tell you is that you must use at least 8 lime slices and all three sauces. My favorite is the white sauce and I definitely take the entire bottle with me to the table when I sit down. They are not stingy on the avocado as well and you are guaranteed to get a nice fat slice on top of whatever taco you order. The steak and shrimp in the surf and turf are so complementary and the cheese on the bottom of the tortilla MELTED YUMMY GOODNESS. MMMM mouth watering just typing about it and I cant even start about the shrimp ceviche. Lemon lime deliciousness, it has to be my favorite of all time. You must stop here whenever youre in SD and only at this location ( just look for the smoke shop, the store has a blue exterior and no big sign) The other locations dont match up sadly so come here and you wont be disappointed. Happy Eating, Savoring, and Enjoying

Hands down, the best fish taco Ive tried in San Diego. Whether you keep it classic with a battered fish or go deluxe with the surf and turf (switch the shrimp to spicy) or taco especial, you will not be disappointed. What sets Oscars apart? Its the melted cheese in the bottom of the tortilla, the fresh fish, the incredible creamy sauces, and the delicious selection of aguas frescas. If youre feeling adventurous, and its on the specials board, dont miss the unique and delectable octopus taco. And if youre extra hungry, upgrade any taco to a "burrito" (a bigger taco in a flour tortilla, really) for just a buck! If this is your first visit, this location is the original, and I recommend this one over the others for the true Oscars experience, despite the line and lack of seating (the wait will be well worth it). If youve been before, head on over to Emerald street for more seating and easier ordering with a different vibe.

I ate here this afternoon on 1/14/17 there is only one table to sit outside which is ok I suppose. One thing I can say is there seviche is pretty damn good even though they took forever. However the seviche really impressed me aside from the long wait. I do think Ill give this place another try for there tacos next time and see if they live up to the hype that San Diego gives them. One thing I would say they could improve on is maybe the efficiency of how fast they move I noticed they had a lot of cooks in the back but yet a long line out the door. I know your a popular spot and all but Ive seen less popular spots with larger lines move at a faster pace with less cooks. I get it takes time but thats my only two cents on that, however other than that do keep up the good work with the ceviche it is definitely one of the best Ive had and they give you a good sized avocado with it and a tostada! (a hard shell corn tortilla).

Their tacos use high-quality ingredients and they seem to be aiming for having the ingredients mostly speak for themselves. However, in practice this mostly ends up with tacos that all taste rather similar, decently good but fairly rote, and they failed to impress for the price. Spicy Grilled Shrimp Taco ($4.50): Maybe they messed up and forgot to make it spicy, but it wasnt noticeably spicy. Grilled Fish Taco ($4.99): A few slabs of dried out grilled fish, with fewer accompaniments in the taco than the others. Worst of the lot. Surf and Turf Taco ($4.60): Skirt steak and shrimp. Steak was a bit tough, but otherwise decent. Very similar to the spicy grilled shrimp taco. Ahi Adobada ($4.65): This one was a special from the board by the register. The best of the lot, in that it was more seasoned and tasted more than like the sum of its parts.

Was in town for business and I had heard about Oscars so I decided to go there. The wait was long given the line was out the door. Granted it is always out the door given the waiting area inside was small. Well worth the wait since they make everything fresh by order and dont have things sitting under a heat lamp. I had the shrimp and Snapper tacos the first night and the second night I had shrimp and Taco Especial (shrimp, smoked fish, scallops). The 3 sauces they have are awesome. The line was longer the second day but definitely worth the wait and the drive to this location. They have catch of the day tacos that changes everyday and is extremely fresh. Friendly and helpful staff. Most of the eating area is outside, and it should be in Sunny San Diego! Definately going back there if when I make it back to San Diego.

I finally got to try Oscars. I FINALLY got to try Oscars and my finally experience had NO LINE. no line whatsoever! I hear this is a rare thing... High end mexican within a small storefront - expect a satisfying meal to cost you at least $10. Rather high price tag for a hole-in-the-wall walk up counter, but once you get your meal you will instantly accept its cost. the food is packed full of fresh ingredients and downright delicious. I got the spicy shrimp and the smoked fish (marlin) tacos. each had HUGE slices of avocado and between my hunger and the wonderful taste, I devoured them both in less than 5 minutes. so messy, so satisfying. one of my tortillas was less fresh than the other but overall...it lives up to its hype.
