i dont usually like to judge a restaurant by one visit, but you know what they say...first impressions are everything. This place seems to rely on the fact that they are on the beach with great views...so the LACK of good service and good food apparently shouldnt matter. meanwhile, heres our experience....table for two. was seated right at the patio door opening, so basically right in the middle of everyone (not in a dark corner). sat and waited while several staff members walk by and around. 5 min go by. still no server. 10 min go by. still no server. 15 min. & we finally have a server. shes in a rush and not very friendly. ask for a water & a coke. no coke. only pepsi. Dr. Pepper? no, only Pepsi. ok then just water. and since we had been sitting & looking at the menu for a good 15 min.we were ready to order. we ordered a turkey sandwich to share. i had fries with mine. about 3 min go by (still without drinks) & our food shows up via a food runner. they ask if we need anything else. "just water please". get water shortly after. started taking the sandwich apart (didnt want cheese). noticed the cheese was old and stiff. the bacon was hardly recognizable it was so dry and dark. overall the sandwich was just dry & seemed to have been something that had been sitting for a while. my Mom was very hungry so she forced hers down. finally got another visit from our server & gave her my half of the sandwich. told her it was not good and i was ok without it. all she said was "ok". came back a few minutes later and said she had taken my half of the meal off of the bill. no apologies, no explanations, nothing. its such a shame that a place with such beautiful patio views has to leave such a bad taste in my mouth. never again Poseidon. never again.

I have been here before and have actually had good service (that is why they are getting 3 stars instead of 1), however the food was nothing to brag about either time. The view here is amazing (right on the beach), yet the 2nd time I went here (Yesterday - Memorial Day weekend) the service was absolutely horrible. My wife and I were told initially that the wait to sit on the patio was going to be 25 minutes (which seemed totally worth it, especially on a great 75 degree holiday), however after one hour I had to find 1 of the 3 hostesses (because they went MIA for 10 minutes) whether they had buzzed us and somehow it didnt work, because there was no way it could take this long when the initial estimate was 25 minutes and I could visibly see over 7 tables sitting out on the patio with no one sitting at them. The hostess once I could actually fine one told me we were next in line. I then watched this same hostess sit 5 more tables (parties of 4 and 5 and 2) before us (all the while there were still open tables vacant for now over 30 minutes. After another 25 minutes we were seated and then had to wait for 25 more minutes for the waitress to take our order and another 10 minutes after that to get silverware, napkins, and water. I totally understand that this was memorial day and they may have been short staffed, however THEY WERE NOT THAT BUSY....Very bad service. Great view on beach, and good experience 1st time I went (4 1/2 star first time, so I will give them a 3 overall). If the owner reads this, he should re-train or fire the brunette hostess.....she cost you a lot of business.

A warm greeting from the parking valet was unfortunately the highlight of our visit. When the Poseidon decided they wanted to be more than a great local spot on the beach to meet & eat they lost their way. Our party of 6 was crammed into a corner of the dining room and thats when the fun began. Our server a very nice young lady informed us when we were ordering that the Pojo burger, which is one of the things they were known for cant be served in the dining room. The teenagers in our party werent interested in the upscale menu that we were ordering from & even when we appealed to the manager we were turned down. The only solution they offered was move our table 30 feet away to the bar which we did. Unusually long time to get our seafood along with the burgers. Food was overpriced $33 for a dinner with 3 scallops, a bland Ciopino broth that tasted like tomato soup. The level of service the entire visit was poor and disappointing. If you want a good meal on the beach in Del Mar, go to Jakes who know how to make you feel appreciated for being a customer.

In the past, a delightful restaurant experience in an awesome setting at reasonable beach prices. After 2 really bad experiences we will never go there again. Were seated at 5 pm(8 adults and 3 children) , were served our food order at 5:55. Actually 3 adults were served at that time, the rest of us were served at approx 6:10. No one said their food was good. We sent back the calamari appetizer for a crisper order since the first one was oil soaked and limp. The excuse for the back up in the kitchen was that the new chef was trying out a new menu..on a Sunday in the middle of the busy summer????My martini was warmish and tasteless, even though it was gin. The prices were high. I would say at least $$$, the range for the entrees being $70 to approx $23 for pasta. A positive aspect was the server Samantha who provided the best service under these circumstances. Lunch might be a different experience. The outside food bar still provides super great ice cream cones. The valet guys are great.. But for dinner, next time we will go to Jakes next door.

STAY AWAY. DO NOT WASTE TIME OR MONEY IN THIS PLACE. Poseidon resembles hospital canteen or at best one at a government owned old folks home Dined there Monday noon with a friend It seemed somewhat busy at first but then I realized it was only so because the restaurant next door named Jacks was closed. We set on the terrace over looking the ocean It was an ok view, nothing to write home about yet because of that I gave it its only star. Other than that. Food was boring uninspiring and tasteless. I ordered avocado salad which was served flooded with thousand islands dressing, my friend ordered tortia and rice which he didnt bother finish for it was so bad. Service was below average and inattentive. The pomegranate juice tastes like robotusin medication, as for my beverage I ordered a small bottle of sparkling water and was forced with 1Liter size. Why not of they can squeeze an extra buck from u ? The plain dated atmosphere was felt in every corner or aspect of this place. So not so-cal !!!

Came here to celebrate Moms birthday and had higher hopes for the location, especially considering location. The views are great and the location on beach cant be beat. However, the service was lacking, in particular given the occasion we were celebrating, which the restaurant was aware of. Started with drinks at bar and after first round was delivered, didnt see our server until one of us had to get up and find her to get us moved to table for dinner, in spite of our desire to get apps and more drinks in bar area. It was Restaurant Week and some of our party ordered the three course meal, and unfortunately they were on to dessert before any of the other entrees arrived. It was 45 minutes for my duck entree to arrive. The food was quite good and we were not disappointed there. Probably a good spot for happy hour or drinks after beach, but not sure its as ideal of a spot for special occasion as one would believe.
