I had the pleasure of trying a variety of dishes from Osetra and every single dish was more delicious then the last. We started off with the Osetra caviar, which I had never had before, but I was completely enticed by the beautiful presentation and the variety of toppings including sour cream, hard boiled eggs, and green onion only enhanced the delicious flavor. Next, I got to try the grilled octopus and lobster salad which were both memorable, although my favorite by far was the lobster salad. The combination of fresh lobster, celery, onion, and avocado was flavorful and the tempura lobster claw on the top was the figurative cherry on top. Next, the lobster love fest continued as I sampled the lobster ravioli which between creamy sauce and homemade raviolis stuffed with lobster still makes my mouth water. After the ravioli, I was delighted to see the Wagyu beef come to the table. Never before have I had beef that was so tender, it literally melted in my mouth. The two fish courses that followed are, my far, my absolute favorite despite the wonderful quality of every single dish that comes out of Osetras kitchen. The stuffed sole was brimming with shrimp, spinach, crap, and herbs and had the most delicious flavor. The Chilean sea bass is quite possibly my favorite dish that I have had anywhere in my life! It has the texture of lobster and a flavor almost like butter. I could honestly eat this every single day for the rest of my life. The only thing that could possibly follow the sea bass would be a trifecta of decadent desserts and I was not disappointed. Between the chocolate mousse cake, the tiramisu, and cheesecake, I was delirious among fantastic flavors but I think that my favorite was ultimately the cheesecake. Osetra Fish house is a wonderful place for a special dinner and its perfect downtown location can not be beat. Osetra Fish house is definitely on the pricer side, but the quality and portions that you receive make the price more than worth it. I cannot wait to come back to Osetra; until then I will be dreaming of Chilean sea bass, lobster ravioli, and cheesecake.

Osetra was not equipped (staff/management/chefs) to handle a NYE dinner. When I arrived for my reservation I was informed that thered be a wait of ~30mins. Ok its NYE and they are behind scheduled no big deal. Unfortunately that 30 mins turned in to 45 mins and I had to remind them I was waiting for my table. When I reminded them I noticed their ingenious wait list system. They combined their online wait list with their call in wait list and hand wrote descriptions of their patrons; i.e. pink lipstick, guy in green shirt. They used this description to relay to the other hostesses whos next for a table......I then realized they purposely overbooked that night and were jamming as many people in as possible with no regard for peoples time. An hour from my reservation I was finally seated at a table. If I wouldnt have said anything we wouldnt have been seated for at least another 30 mins. Waiter was not personable and was not interested in ensuring the remainder of the Osetra experience went well. We ordered 2 entrees and were informed that adding soup would be too much food. Food came out quick (Only thing that went good that night). Waiter noticed I didnt have a steak knife and stated, "Ill be right back with a steak knife"....he disappeared for 10 mins and returned to ask how the food was. I asked about the knife and by this point the food was cold. I returned the plate to the Waiter as I was done with the Osetra "experience". The Waiter then informed us that there would be no charge for dinner......that I didnt eat. I wanted to have a conversation with the manager but no one identified themselves as the manager. They definitely didnt care about the experience and wanted to cycle through as many tables as possible. I would not recommend this restaurant for any dinner or event. They dont have the necessary training/experience to handle the demands of being a great restaurant.

I dont know how much weight people put into these reviews, or even if people read them, but I find it funny how there can be such a differing range or opinions. I have eaten at Osetra many times. In those many times, I have had many different waiters/waitresses. Not once did I not have an enjoyable experience. I have always received great service. On top of the great service from the waiters and waitresses, Osetra is the only restaurant I have eaten at with a manager that truly cares. Sure, I have had managers stop by the table before, but it was for a very brief moment and they only stopped by once. The manager at Osetra truly cares about customer satisfaction. Every time I have eaten there, I have been check on multiple times by the manager to ensure everything was to my satisfaction. The food is as great as the service! I am originally from the coast, and I love fresh seafood. If thats what youre looking for, Osetra is the place to be. The Yellow Tail is by far my favorite dish. I also enjoyed the halibut, salmon and Mexican stuffed shrimp. Their meat dishes are also phenomenal. I have had the pork chop, flat iron steak and the lamb. The appetizers are great as well. I would recommend the spicy martini or the spicy tuna rolls; both are excellent. The prices are what you would expect for fine dining. Coming from Florida where the cost of living is much lower than out here, I was pleasantly surprised to see the prices at Osetra. Most meals are in the $30 range, and well worth it. Osetra is by far my favorite place to eat downtown. I strongly recommend it!

My dining experience at Osteria was exceptional! I am a hopeless romantic, and like to go big for my girlfriends birthday. This year, I wanted to make dinner the highlight of our birthday plans. I called ahead to see if they had any vegan options, and was offered a special menu for our special evening. As a vegan, I know all of the best places to get amazing meals in San Diego. The hard part is finding a vegan restaurant with any kind of high scale and romantic ambience. Osteria blew us away! When we arrived, we were greeted with a genuine smile as if seeing an old friend. We were led to our table to find it covered in fresh red rose petals, and a custom printed menu reading "Happy Birthday (my girlfriends name)". We then were brout a 5 course meal, one dish at a time, along with a special "mocktail" to compliment it. (We dont drink alcohol, so this was a really nice surprise!) Our meal included brushetta, crab cakes with mango salsa, fish tacos with seaweed salad, chicken teriyaki with vegetables, beef risotto, and tiramisu (one strawberry, one mocha). All 100% vegan! Everything was incredible, and in a perfectly lit and serenaded setting. My girlfriend was so impressed, and several girls walking by commented on how sweet the roses were! I highly recommend Osreria, especially for your next special occassion. It is worth every penny to go big and let them do their magic. Compliments to the chef, the manager, and the crew , and thank you for a night to remember forever.

The waitress arrives at our table on the outside about 7 minutes after we sit down. My wife and I were about to leave but when the waitress finally arrives.. I order the filet mignon and my wife orders the ahi tuna.. When the food arrives, i get my filet while my wife gets an order of chilean sea bass.. My wife specifically ordered the ahi tuna.. When we told our waitress, she gives my wife a look as if she was the one who made the mistake.. I quickly corrected her and stated that we came here specifically to order the ahi tuna.. So i ate my food, as my wife had to wait for her food (she insisted I eat, since we were both hungry) She had some of food to tie her over till her meal was prepared.. The food arrives and everything is fine. A new waitress helps drops off the check. I ask where the waitress was who helped us.. She said that she had already left for the day.. I told the waitress of my disatisfaction with the service... In her defense, she did offer us coffee and dessert.. I was so upset at the service we declined. I guess we expected more from spending over 150.00 on a meal. ( we ordered a bottle of wine also) I told her to pass the message to her manager and we walked off. Theres a lot of other restaurants in the gas lamp district, but we will not be coming back to this one.. Which is a shame, since it was so close to our hotel.
