The whole family had a late lunch at Blue Water Seafood on India St. today. It is located in Mission Hills, but I think of it as north of Little Italy. It was very crowded on a Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. speaking well of its word of mouth reputation. It compared very favorably to my long time San Diego seafood favorite, Point Loma Seafoods on the Shelter Island waterfront on Scott and Emerson. I dont know if they were consciously emulating the Point Loma style, but there were many similarities, from the very casual indoor/outdoor/patio dining style, to the display of fish on ice as one enters to order. They offer all of their fresh fish in three styles, Sandwich, Salad or Plate. My wife and I opted for the plates, with our halibut and red snapper, respectively, prepared in a style they called bronzed. It was the most lightly breaded manner I have ever seen fish prepared, and was perfect for keeping the fish moist and flavorful. From the taste, the fish was obviously fresh, as well. In the beer department, they had a small but reasonable variety of bottled beers. But where they excel, is in the full line of Ballast Point brews on tap. Unfortunately, they were out of the Yellowtail Pale Ale, so we opted for a pitcher of Wahoo Wheat. It was perfect with the fish plate. Another way I prefer them over Point Loma is in the salad. They offer a nice mixed garden salad with fresh greens, much better than cole slaw. Also, the jasmine rice is a nice alternative to fries. The youngsters were very please with their fish and chips and clam chowder. I should also mention that they offer a number of chilled shrimp and fish cocktails, ceviches, etc. I have to rate this a bit above Point Loma, a place I have been loyal to since 1984.

The Blue Water Seafood Market & Grill has been featured on TV and it was a MUST on our 5000 mile road-trip from California to New Jersey. We were SOOOOO looking forward to it. BUT... The first time, the line was sooo long out the door, it was not worth the wait, and we were really too hungry. So we thought, well try again tomorrow. Next day, 3pm, Not rush time, only 1 person at the door, so it appears the line was not long. We park, get in line, and once inside the door, we see the line continues from the front door another 50 feet to the back of the restaurant. If a restaurant cannot accommodate its customers in any reasonable way, and forces them to be so uncomfortable and treated like cattle just to sample their food, I dont care if it tastes like its from the hands of God himself! Its not right, its not good business, and its upsetting. SOOO, we walked up the street to the next corner and had an amazing meal at The Saffron Restaurant, 3737 India Street. The entrees were so good my friend ordered a second same entree. Their peanut sauce is amazing, and the photos of presidents, Oprah, Dianne Sawyer, and Martha Stewart posing with the owner attest to the fact others like the restaurant as well. I should note here, we are Firehouse Publishing, and are writing a road-trip travel guide, and this misadventure, and redemption will be mentioned in the book. Blue Water gets ONE STAR because by sheer luck, we found a better place to eat that took care of its customers!

I was really looking forward to trying this place out based on the reviews. We did not last for 5 minutes, the staff is extremely rude and guests are fighting over tables because the policy is to order first. I was with my family and did not want them to wait in line while i was ordering so i had them sit down. We were ready to sample some cool dishes out because i am an executive chef and enjoy other foodie spots.I am sure the bill would have been $$$$! The server marched over to my wife and 6 year old daughter and rudely said "YOU MUST LEAVE THIS TABLE NOW!" ...IT IS FOR PAYING CUSTOMERS... THOSE WHO ORDERED" WOW! what a way to make an impression! Then, my wife got up and motioned to me to "Lets leave this place" so we did. As we were leaving, the server again mocked my wife and laughed. FYI: Places like this who think they are invincible...do not last long no matter how great they think they are. We went to La Jolla and went to El Pescador instead. Great find, positive energy and worth the trip! Shame on Blue Water Seafood! your staff and energy will ruin you...I will make sure never to recommend this place to anyone and give my honest review on all open forums.

I rarely write reviews for restaurants but felt compelled to do so after having the most wonderful dinner at the newest of the Bluewater chain in Coronado. My husband said he felt this was the best dinner he had had at a restaurant for as long as he could remember. We have eaten at the location of the old Chart House on Coronado many times under different management and this is a vast improvement over the past renditions. It has been remodeled on the inside so it is light and airy. We had the great fortune to sit outside and have Brittany as our waitress. She was on the ball, knew her menu well and had great recommendations! Our martinis were superb. I had the Fanny Bay oysters and they were fresh and delicious. My husband and I both had the sand dabs on Brittany;s recommendation and they were outstanding! Crispy on the edges, done perfectly with a fantastic buerre blanc sauce with capers. Their wine list was quite nice as well. We had the Rombauer chardonnay and it was better priced than I have seen it in restaurants previously. Dont miss the Bluewater Boathouse! You will not be disappointed!

Was in SD on vacation for 4 days and we ate here 4 times! We wanted fresh fish and that is what we got! Cute place. Tried all different kinds of grilled fish and it was all good. Thought the tacos were the best, however. We were really missing this place this weekend! Staff was always welcoming and patient. Thursday and Friday afternoon we had no wait. Sat dinner was over an hour. Since we were in a hurry on Sunday, we call in ahead and got it to go. Best place we ate in SD. Far better than Sea Rocket and it 66 percent less expensive! Also avoid Cafe 222 (so disappointing) and Pizzeria Luigi (unless you like floppy crust, greasy, and old). Best breakfast: Beach Grass Cafe. Pineapple upside down pancake. Yum! On another note, if planning a vacation, get a place with a kitchen, hit the amazing produce at the farmers markets, make a stop at catalina offshore products to pick up some amazing fish!

It shouldnt be that difficult to find fresh seafood prepared well at a reasonable price, but unfortunately, it is. So that is the issue that Blue Water seeks to solve. And Id say, judging by the line of AT LEAST 100 people when we arrived, they seem to be doing just that. The food was great, we had a couple tacos, shark and mahi-mahi and the fish (cod) & chips. Flavor was all spot on. I dont think people would be lined up in that manner if it wasnt. Every chip shop in London may want to try Blue Waters fish and chips, so they know what a properly seasoned meal should taste like. So while their food is fantastic, it nor is any food, worth the wait. From the time we got in line to the time we received our order, we had been there for over an hour and a half. If you got the time to burn and dont mind standing in line for ages, this is the place for you.
