Everything is great! crab cakes and mejillon soup, and try the pulpos. Update: I returned to La Viga and had a great experience. Fast, pleasant service. Helpful recommendations on the menu. It seems the previous issues were, in fact, tied to the large party that was distracting the staff. Definitely check this place out! No bad options on the menu, First of all, the food here is AMAZING. Everything we tried was delicious, and I suspect there isnt a bad item on the menu. The only reason Ive deducted 2 stars is that we were seated and then waited over half an hour with no attention from the waiters. We were hungry and in a bit of a hurry, so this was particularly frustrating. I suspect this had to do with the fact there was a large party happening next to us and staff was rushing to meet their needs, so your mileage may vary. But it was gross enough negligence that we almost got up and left (which I never do). That being said, when we finally *did* get attention, the food was amazing. The Crab cakes were my favorite (we ordered several dishes tapas style), and the Mahi Mahi ceviche was the best from our trio tasting. The red sangria was also pretty good and reasonable. Will come back and hope for better luck with waiters next time!

Found this on yelp and it definitely lived up to the hype. Ive been here twice so far and plan on returning again soon. The complimentary cheese dip/sauce + tortilla chips are seriously addicting. Exercise some self control so that you have room to eat the other dishes -- trust me I learned the hard way. Highlights: Ceviche Trio - a nice way to try 3 different ceviches (Shrimp, Mahi-Mahi, and Red Snapper. I liked all of them but my boyfriend found the mango in the mahi-mahi ceviche too sweet. Pulpos Salteados-I love octopus so this dish was perfect. Great flavor and the octopus was very tender. Caldo De Mariscos - simply delicious soup. I think this is one of their specialities. The seasoning in the broth was spot on. Paella Mixta- This was delicious and a big portion. They dont skip on the seafood and chorizo! Yum! Skip the Guacamole and the "Camarones al Coco" they didnt live up to the caliber of the other dishes on the menu.

The place is small, but still has a sort of grandness to it. The walls has interested art work...a palatte stimulating yellow with brown birds facing the bar area and kitchen., An authentic Latin woman holding a basket of veggies...great visual. The furniture is sold and well appointed, solid tables with woven french like brown chairs...solid and comfortable. The staff very attentive and courteous, also well dressed . Now what you came for, " The Food." The menu is simple, one page back and front and easy to read. Once you order be ready to feel the excitement of authentic taste..the blend of natural seasonings, herbs flavors... Cervechi Pescado was delicious and there are several varieties that are all suspect for delicious. The grilled Mahi and plantain rice oh was so good. . I can go on and on..but if you are ever desiring some Authentic amazing Mexican dinning ..you have to dive to Redwood City and find this place...:) 5 star for sure.

Probably the best South American place on the peninsula. This place is a hidden gem. Though it is in the slightly dodgy area of Redwood City, it serves world-class food. The mahi-mahi is outstanding. I dont usually eat fish because I cant stand the slightest hint of a fishy taste. The fish has to basically be cooked with flavors that neutralize the fish taste. But I love the mahi-mahi here, as well as the scallops. Also, the sauce that they serve with chips as the free appetizer is awesome too. The only thing that needs improvement is the reservation system (hence 4 stars instead of 5). Several times when Ive called ahead and made a reservation for dinner, once our party shows up the hostess cant seem to find any evidence of our reservation on the system. So weve had to wait up to half an hour at times to get a table. There is a missing link somewhere. Other than that, its a fantastic place.

Listen here FOODIES: You will want to try this place. It is really--really--really good. That is three reallys from someone who feels so very strongly about high quality food. SO strong do I feel about this place that I unwittingly swore in earlier part of this review and decided to go back and edit out the explicative in order tone it down and keep it G rated. But I am telling you I feel that kind of passion about this place. I love their pork loin white bean special and went back for it 3 times in a week. I am a busy working mom and that level of obsession can only come with something this delectable. I loved their paella. I love their guacamole. I love their agua fresco which is not your typical fruits, they mix it up with guava for instance. Tacos, fresh tortilla chips, even the sangria has no rival. I am looking forward to my next stop here-maybe tomorrow….

The food is fresh, flavorful and delicious! Dont listen to the whiners who say its bland or overpriced, these are the types of people who like Taco Bell and Chipotle! You get what you pay for. The prices are fair for the fresh ingredients they serve you. The presentation and taste are amazing. Just because its a little hole in the wall Latin American restaurant doesnt mean they should have cheap prices. They are always busy which speaks volumes to how good the food and service is. Weve literally tried everything on the menu and have liked it all. The ceviche, tacos, salads, main dishes, you will not be disappointed. Make a reservation on the weekends (evening) or you will have to wait a little while. Or go for lunch when its a little less crowded. And yes, we are going again tonight because we love it that much.

A smaller, somewhat crowded, gem on the outskirts of Redwood Citys downtown on Broadway. La Viga appealed to my interest first in outer appearance, seeming to be out of place in its small shopping center. In passing one may think is a "whole in the wall", as it has the Bay area "taqueria" look to it. The dining experience is very casual, but the plated presentation is something you would expect in a more upbeat, flavorful setting. For this reason, the dishes really are a pleasant surprise when they hit the table, especially once you appreciate the value your getting for a reasonable cost. I had the Dorado A Las Brasas and enjoyed every aspect of its flavor. Such a creative combination for a remarkable taste. I will definitely return here for more pleasant surprises.

I expected to love this place because Im a big seafood fan and its rated so highly on Google, Yelp, and elsewhere, but after visiting for the first time about a week ago, I was pretty underwhelmed. My group tried the dorado ceviche, several different types of tacos, the shrimp quesadilla, and a few appetizers. Nothing tasted bad, but the consensus in our group was that the flavors were on the bland side and somewhat heavy with oil -- the real seafood flavors didnt come through. The service was very indifferent, as well. Ill probably try out a range of other restaurants around Redwood City before I pay another visit to La Viga.
