Small and unique "French/Swiss" restaurant on Balboa Island. A little dark inside, but warm and cozy. Despite its location on Balboa Island, it is not a casual restaurant - dont go in your cargo shorts and sandals. Legend has it that the owner is a famous European chef who is semi-retired and opens this little restaurant only occasionally to share and enjoy his talents. More accurately, the legend is mostly true, but Basilic has been in this location on Balboa Island for 20 years now and is regularly open for dinner, but only from Tuesday thru Saturday nights. Due to supply & demand, reservations are a must. They only serve French wines, which is a tad pretentious, but you will not be disappointed if you make the effort to dine at Basilic - the food is authentic and excellent. Like taking a trip to the Alps...

the best hidden gem in oc. authentic country french atmosphere where youll hear diners and servers actually speaking french. only 7 tables - very quaint. mouth-watering lamb chops; maryland blue crab salad and tarte tatin are a must. personable service. for locals in the know. youve probably been walking past it for years.

Great Swiss/French style food with careful selection of ingredients, particularly the fish. Its very small, and certainly reservations are required. Certainly the best bistro in Orange County. Interesting wine list. Very attentive service.

Yes, it really is like a little Swiss restaurant. All dishes youve had before, but likely never this good.
