Ive been eating at Chapala for almost 20 years. I lived for many years in San Diego and have eaten the best Mexican food, so Id rate the food at Chapala as usually quite tasty, though sometimes a bit uneven in quality. The salsa is delicious, and my favorite dishes are the flautas and the carne asada soft tacos. The margaritas are delicioso. Chapalas owner, Ted, is always wonderfully welcoming, and Ive never had poor service there...not once. The ambiance is fun, especially when the cowboys are singing. As for a complaint by a previous reviewer, in all the years Ive gone to Chapala, not once have I been approached by a panhandler--but hey, its life...sometimes these things happen. Its sure not the end of the world, and it has nothing to do with the quality of the restaurant. ¡Salud!

I dont know how this place could possibly have received such high reviews. I came by and ordered 3 tacos a la carte one pollo and 2 al pastor. The bill came to over 10 bucks for 3 regular sized tacos but I was hungry. After a short wait I received my order and headed outside to enjoy, I though. The 3 tacos were the worst I can ever recall eating. All around low quality. Tortilla, meat, you name it. Meat was flavorless and seemed over cooked, tortillas were chewy and also flavorless. No lime for the tacos. They were dry and unappetizing, but like I said earlier, I was hungry. So I used their La Victoria grade salsa, that came with he cold tortilla chips to choke down these abominations of Mexican cuisine. Youd be better off at Taco Bell and I dont say that lightly.

I walked in and got sat right away which was nice but the waitress took over 5 mins to notice me then walked by me and just looked at me then took an additional 5 mins to talk to me she got my beer and i ordered and didnt see her till she came with my check and asked if i wanted another beer she looks like she hating life and is rude walking around with a upset face on i sat with my check for over 10 mins when i had my credit card ready to pay the manger had to end up taking my payment their bus boy kept reaching over me and my food and the food was hot and looked great but was disgusting it tasted as if someone put a cigarette in it id never return

Here now, this place sucks. Bad service, food had a awful taate like it is cooked on a dirty grill. Enchilada was gross. The ground beef tastes bad. The watress is not friendly nor any one in here. Too bad we have to leave a tip. Oh the salad was so watery you could pour it off the plate. We just told her to take it and not bring another. She just took it and didnt say anything

Went to Chapala on a Friday night. The place was lively and live music played. The Tumbleweeds are great!! Old cowboy songs! I loved the food also - it was fresh and steamy hot. And the service was friendly and professional. The owner was on site (I guess he is much of the time) and checked with us to see if we needed anything. Five stars for that alone!

horrible waitress and staff dont treat you like customers. when we walked in it took 5 min for someone to come and bring us to the table. then waited another 20 min with no service. then we asked for waters the guy got us waters and left. another 10-15 no service so we left. the staff didnt care and probally didnt even notice we were gone. bad service

Really good Mexican food at a good price. Its an extensive menu and everything Ive had there so far has been very good. The restaurant has lots of seating and high ceilings so its not loud even when its crowded. They sometimes have live music and the service is always friendly. Theyve also got a full wall mural that has some cool hidden details.

Food okay, nice people, but two families who came in after us had their meals before any of us got something to drink. I had to ask for someone to take order. We had to ask three times before everyone had something to drink. Appetizer arrived after I reminded them half way through the meal. I had to go find a waiter to get the check.

My favorite item is the Chili Rellano Burrito. Great prices. Fast turn-around time. Always clean and never causes an "undo distress of the belly." Great food. Dependable. You should definitely go there, and its also a good idea to visit the music store across the street!
