Had breakfast at 9:15 on 09/03/2017. Party of two. Although the restaurant was only 1/3 full we waited about 4 minutes to be seated. Once we where at our table the waitress took around 6 to 10 minutes to begin the ordering process. I noticed first that prices were a bit high. I would say about 20% more expensive than a comparable meal at Dennys. So I expected better service and better food quality. But the bumpy ride was to continue. We ordered a Chorizo Scramble and a Fit and Focused Apple Sausage Scramble. Once the food arrived I opened the utensils that were rapped in a napkin. To my surprised the spoon was have full of old food residue, yuck! The waitress apologized and changed the utensils. We finally began to eat and when I took the first bite of my Chorizo Scramble I was impacted by the cold chorizo. Not warm, completely refrigerator cold yet the cheese on top was warm. The sausage from the Fit and Focused Apple Sausage Scramble was also cold. I returned the my plate and asked them to heat it up. The waitress came back with my food and again apologized. The food tasted well but I was not able to enjoy it because I felt uncomfortable with so many restaurant mistakes and delays. Once done I asked the nice waitress for the bill and I also asked for a discount. My total bill was around $30 and the waitress was able to get us a $6.60 discount. This is why I give this visit three stars instead of one. What I perceive from this visit is that this Emeryville, CA Black Bear Diner needs to focus better on customer experience. They recognized their errors and gave me a discount but I had a traumatic breakfast and I did not enjoy it. The restaurant was not full and it did not seem to be understaffed but yet the service was slow and the food had the problems I mentioned above. I would recommend to the restaurant to review its basic procedures and supervise more closely. Remember the customer wants fast and attentive service and good quality food. Just follow that and your customers experience will be much better. Overall the staff I talked to was friendly but this place lacks passion for quality service. It can be turned around.

We had the worst service when we got our food it was cold and our order was wrong when we mentioned it to our waiter he took it back and brought the right food but it was also cold and we didnt see much of our waiter to see if we needed a refill on water or Coke or anything like that and its unfortunate because it was our anniversary and I had always told my husband Black Bear Diner is really awesome and this one in particular was not good at all we didnt have dessert and just paid her bill and left but we did complain and they did at least give us a refund is the form of a gift card. We live much closer to the Black Bear Diner in Salinas so we went there and it redeemed itself and I could prove my husband that Black Bear Diner is a really fantastic place to eat it just depends where you go I guess but I do know that the Salinas location is very good. As for Emeryville I just dont know if they were having a bad night or what but I just hope it was a bad night for the sake of the other patrons that live nearby and like to go there. I just know that if Im ever up by San Francisco that I personally would not return to this restaurant

Terrible food and staff. The staff just talked to one another in Spanish in front of you instead of ever helping you. Staff dropped off the food and never came back to see how we were are or if we need anything. The food Terrible, even Dennies runs circles around this place. Before Black Bear fully franchised the food was actually very good at least the place my mom and went when I was a kid on our road trip to Oregon, that was over 15 plus years ago, so my mom and I couldnt wait to eat here once we saw it, and wow its garbage now. Once again money ruins everything, why serve good food when you can save a buck and sell out. The perfect example of whats wrong with America these days. I came here after a trip to IKEA which was terrible too, prices went way up there too.

I was very pleased with the food, and the service. I just so happened to loose 100.00 bucks at my booth, and I left, I thought for sure it was gone, if someone found it they would just keep it, and I went back to the restaurant just to check, with very low expectations of getting it back, and to my surprise, my waitress had found it, and was so very kind to offer it back to me, again, she could of easily lied and said no she didnt see it... but she was an honest person and, I got it back, hooray for the few good people left in this world, she was one of them, I wish I could thank her personally again, but I didnt catch her name, darn, I thank her in my heart though, that was money I needed to feed my pets!

Horrible service ruined our breakfast experience. One correct order was served to table, and one wrong order. By the time the order was corrected, my spouse had finished her meal. It was clear that a re-order goes to the back of the line with all incoming orders. Also, when ordering, the server asked if I would like gravy on my biscuit. I said sure, if they would do that. Bill came. I had been charged extra for the gravy. So, you better ask if it cost extra when they ask you if you would like something. That is a deceptive practice. Bad and deceptive service. They get one star because the manager did take $4 off my bill when I gave him my opinion of the service.

Went there today and boy let me tell you it was the worst service ever...For one the waitress was very short with us she didnt tell us about any specials and wasnt even smiling then we waited for over 30 minutes for our food. People who came in after us recieved their food before us. When we finally got our food my boyfriends biscuit was harder than a rock. our eggs were scrambled which i ordered over easy but they tasted like baby powder my pancakea were dry and i ordered bacon they gave me sausage. Come to find out they had given us the wrong food we just walkes out. Never eat here its a disgrace.

I was at black bear diner last week having lunch which is usally the shrimp and fries. My server sweetz with a "z" cant forget that was great she was fast very nice and always had a smile on her face, i was skeptical about the coleslaw that came with the meal but she assured me tha it was good, so i trusted her and i dont eat nobodys coleslaw. It was actually very good i ate it all before i even touched my shrimp..this is a new retaurant in this area and im glad they have servers like her very nice experience she was very pleasant and easy going loved her...i will be returning soon!
