I come here often. Ive worked in the neighborhood for 7 years and ordered here several times. I love being here. Theres a real connection to modern history here with its popcorn ceiling and late 60s/early 70s ambiance Reminds me of breakfast with grandma and grandpa - but better, since it has a modern restaurant computer system and a huge flat-panel HDTV. But never mind the trip back to yesteryear... The menu is impressively expansive! The selection here is tops. Delicious salads, sandwiches, and entrees abound here. Perfect all the time? No. No place ever is. I, from time to time in the passed 7 years, have encountered their off days; but their high percentage of spot-on delicious days has kept me coming back regardless. Service has been phenomenal since Ive come to know most of the folks on the same shift I usually order. Service can vary with various folks, but I would say I get very good service when I come here. Ive had C days here at worst, but usually I have A+ days here when it comes to service. I would definitely recommend Buttercup to a friend.

I suspect the competition, whoever that might be, is trying to stack the deck with the bad reviews below. BUTTERCUP ROCKS. This place is a cut above, with an extensive, varied menu and consistently good service and food at all locations I have visited. Blackened Salmon Ceasar Salad is my favorite dish. Meals come with warm, perfectly baked French bread and your choice of a low-cholesterol spread or butter. Scottish bangers and eggs are my breakfast favorite--a hearty feast with huge, mild bangers (a British sausage). After a tiring day at the office, I sometimes stop off and eat the succulent Black and Blue Burger, a juicy patty dipped in Cajun spices and blackened, then topped with onion straws, blue cheese butter, lettuce and tomato. Heaven. Lifts my spirits right up. They also have wonderful desserts here such as a Whiskey Bread Pudding and perfect (PERFECT!) Lemon Meringue Pie, and the coffee is good as well.

Ive been traveling all over the states for three weeks now and the meal that I just had at the Oakland Buttercup Kitchen was the best. I had the chicken parmigian and started with delicious homemade soup and warm bread. Yummy! Then, I was thinking of ordering a fettucine dish and asking them if theyd do a palamino sauce. But instead, I went with the chicken, only to have my abundant portion of side pasta come in a creamy marinara sauce! And every bite of the chicken was delectable. It was all cooked perfectly. The service was incredible. I will visit this restaurant every time Im in Oakland. Its a 6 star in my book! Did I mention homemade baked potato soup with cheddar and chives on top, chunks of potato and bacon, and a perfect rue? Oh yeah!

Food was ok...a little over seasoned. What was really suprising was the terrible service. Our party was seated by an older man who seemed as if he was a server, but not quite sure since he was never came to check pn us after our order was taken. We had to ask another server to get us our food, which she did promptly. Then when we were paying, the cashier asked who our server was and this guy was trying to get the tip when we clearly told the cashier it should go to thr lady who was helping us. Management of this location is one of thr worst I have ever experienced. Def would never go back again

This is a reliable neighborhood dinner that has been around for years. The food is not gourmet, its a diner, just reliable and relatively inexpensive. You can get a big plater of carbs or breakfast for not much. Service is quick but it is usual busy so they usual dont have time to hang out and pretending to be your BFF. Works for me. If you are a regular they remember and treat you right. Exterior has recently redone along with the adjacent hotel. In the near future Buttercup will have a bar so youll be able to get a Bloody Mary with your brunch any day soon.

The food is ok and a reasonable price. However, I was just making a call outside the bathrooms and witnessed a bald-headed jerk, who I assume is the manager with his strut and bossy air of authority, violently banging on the womens public bathroom.I dont care what his problem was. Thats not ok and it ruined my mood. You cant invade and disrespect someones space in the bathroom. I hope the owners fire him. Nothing I hate more than a jerk boss. If hes the owner, well that sucks.

I ordered the Biscuit Breakfast and even though there are many words to use to describe the experience...I am going to use PERFECT. The seasoning, the chicken, the gravy, the biscuit, the eggs & holy poly they give you your moneys worth. I had to share with my sister. Friendly environment, very original setting and a very fresh menu. I would definitely recommend

Everytime I come here, the place is packed, and with good reason. The dining room is very clean, bright, and inviting, the service is prompt and attentive, the menu is varied, but not so much that it bus overwhelming, and so far, everything Ive tried has been cooked well in very generous portions. I highly recommend their pies and milkshakes!

The staff are very friendly and courteous. The food is professionally prepared and they serve you with a happy smile! Totally recommend this Bar & Grill for any local-tourists wanting to experience the fine foods that East Bay has to offer. I come back here everytime we get a chance. Friday and Saturdays are the best times.

First stop for breakfast or lunch on business trips to Oakland. Its higher end of moderately priced. Do not expect cheap eats. Very tasty food, friendly service and atmosphere. Decor is original and welcoming... Wont feel like youre a chain restaurant. I always get a slice of pie a la mode.

The waitress was really nice and smiled a lot. The Ruben sandwich was not good, the meat was very tough and fatty. But the BLT&G was great, I recommend that. Large portions, we could have shared one plate with two people. Open late, thats a plus!

Love this place. Consistent solid food. Huge omelettes -- never have finished a single one. Wonderful biscuits made fresh in house daily as are the desserts and other bakery goods. This is our go to local breakfast spot in this neighborhood.
