Absolutely awful. Unacceptably awful. This restaurant needs a complete overhaul. Its currently being run by people who dont have proper systems in place, and who clearly dont care about food quality, service, or ambience. VALENTINES DAY 2017 RECAP: * Walking in, we were confronted with not one, not two, but THREE janky paper signs scotch taped to front door and interior glass partitions, yelling at us in all caps that coupons or vouchers would not be accepted on Valentines Day. So tacky, not a nice way to set a romantic mood. * Booked reservation online (OpenTable) and arrived on time but kept waiting in the crowded lobby while frantic front of house guy (rumpled shirt, looked like he just rolled out of bed, certainly didnt dress nicely for a holiday crowd) ran around with notes on paper figuring out where there were available tables. Gave the impression that he purposely overbooked for the holiday, given the full house and overflowing lobby of waiting patrons. * Once seated, were handed prix fixe menus, we had no idea prix fixe would be the only menu option available (at a whopping $42 per person!!) * Wine list folio was sticky (ew!) and when I asked a question, the frantic waiter clearly knew nothing about wine but offered to bring the one and only sparkling wine available by the glass; he came back to the table with an open bottle of another sparkling wine brand and offered to pour me a taste--there was not a single bubble in the glass, sparkling wine was completely FLAT. * Waiter took our orders for appetizers, but rushed off before taking our order for the rest of the meal. Odd and disconcerting. * Appetizers arrived, "caprese" consisted of ONE slice of mozzarella and ONE slice of tomato with a wilted basil leaf on top and a thick mystery sauce that burned and assaulted our mouths with heat but no flavor. Fried calamari arrived looking a mess, like someone ate off our plate already. Both appetizers had sauces slopped on the sides of the plates that could have easily been wiped clean--and would have been in a better restaurant. * Appetizers were so bad, so completely unsightly and inedible that we decided we did not want to know how bad the rest of the meal would be, and certainly didnt want to spend $42 per person for horrible food and awful, frenetic ambience. * Asked the front of house guy (manager? owner? torturer?) if we could pay for our drinks and leave because the food was sub par. He did not pause, did not apologize, did not ask any questions at all, he simply said something like dont worry about it you can just leave. HE DIDNT EVEN CARE to ask what wasnt good, why we didnt want to continue with the meal. Clearly he already knows the food is terrible and is just running a holiday con--jacked up prix fixe pricing on absolute garbage food. * Quickly got on my phone and made a last-minute reservation at Grand Lake Kitchen, where we KNOW the food is always delicious and the service is stellar. Thankfully they had a table available at 8:30 pm on Valentines Day! Pasta Pelican is a cruel joke on anyone unlucky enough to eat here. Or TRY to eat here--you probably wont be able to stomach it!

The Pasta Pelican Restaurant is tucked away in the outskirts of Alameda overlooking Jack London square. The view from the second floor is a nice backdrop of downtown Oakland. The restaurant provides a live band on Friday nights and they usually play light jazz while you eat. The food is yummy and worth a visit. Bruschetta, $9 Standard bruschetta served with a side of pesto. The combination works very well together and Im surprise other places havent caught on. Bruschetta is hard to mess-up so kudos for adding the pesto and separating yourself from the rest. Ricotta Ravioli, $11 The plate is served with only four raviolis. The raviolis are the size of silver dollar coin and stuff to capacity. The foursome lay on creamy bed of marinara sauce mixed with ricotta. At first the portion seems tiny but trust me its more than enough. The marina sauce is thick with ricotta so make sure youre a fan. Fettuccine di Tequila, $13 A creamy white sauce with a hint of spice washes over a healthy portion of pasta. The bell peppers and onions give the plate much needed color and aid with the taste. Mixing tequila and lime into Fettucine pasta is a bold move. The tequila can easily be nasty and over power the sauce. Luckily for me none were the case. I was unable to taste the tequila but the hint of lime was noticeable. Overall I had a good experience at Pasta Pelican, the food, service and pricing all jived well. I wish yelp would allowed half stars because this place is a solid 3.5. I look forward to exploring more of their menu.

Im not sure if they were severely understaffed tonight or if this place is always this way, but everything was slooowwww... We werent in a hurry so I didnt really mind but it would be nice to get a water refill... just one refill? Please? The couple that was seated next to us upped and left after sitting for a solid 15 minutes without any service whatsoever. It would also have been nice to get seconds on bread considering how long we had to wait, but no one came by that I could ask. I gazed across the bay at Kincaids and imagined attentive waiters topping off water glasses after every sip. Had an Ahi salad: tangy and tasty, pizza: nothing spectacular, but good nonetheless, and the tortellini: a bit on the salty side but not too bad. One line: Great bayside views, good pasta, but slower than molasses.

It was pretty good the food and especially the dining area. However our sever was kind of rude. First of all my gf had oder her food he messed up the order, second we had ask for butter for our food, he forgot he brought it right when we had finish, third he took our plates once we had done eating then he comes and starts cleaning making my gf and I pick up our cups of water to clean, and we werent ready to leave yet it felt like he was pressuring us to leave, fourth then we asked for a dessert he brought our dessert then spoons and place the spoons right on to the table where he had just pass his dirty towel with it was wet. Made us feel grossed out and couldnt eat the dessert anymore. I would definitely come back but not get serve by Aziz Jr bad costumer service from him!

Staying at nearby hotel and although I read the negative reviews, I came here anyway since it was walking distance. The reviews are spot on but clearly management doesnt read them. Not so friendly hostess. I sat for about 10 minutes without anyone coming to the table. I asked for just bread and butter, I did not receive any butter. I ordered tortellini, and thy brought me fettecini. Although quickly corrected it. NO ONE checked back and then waited for another 15 minutes, finally flagged down someone to close out my check. Sheesh! Low expectations here for sure! But noticed the staff was very attentive to regulars. The food was nothing special. What a waste for such an amazing location. Lame.

Great alternative to Jack London Square if you are sailing and want a place to stop for dinner without "heading home." Free docking while you eat and the dock is right behind the restaurant -- in fact, if you get a window table, you can keep an eye on your boat. I had the veal picatta. The sauce was a little creamier than what I grew up with (100% italian and fed with homemade italian food all my childhood) but was pretty good. Friends whom I ate with were satisfied as well. The (free) bread with olive oil, balsalmic, garlic paste and cheese was a pretty good appetiser -- no need to order anything else before the meal.
