Hello, We are new in SOCAL and were exploring Indian restaurants. We were all excited about Mayur based on its location and the reviews we read. However, the excitement dropped the moment when we walked in for lunch at about 12:15 pm. Well, the reason is this. If you walk in into restaurant at peak lunch hours, only to know, you are the first customer, it tells you something. However, we decided to give it a try. The next disappointment came in with the fact that it was not a buffet. Kind of unusual for Indian restaurants.(I Admit, we missed this when we just glanced through menu). Third, if it is not a buffet, one would expect the portions to be large enough for an individual. I was not happy to receive one small naan(1/4 of a full naan) and single curry for 15$. The server was unkind enough to point out this is all you get in not-so-polite way. One last point, the curry did not have that authentic Indian flavor that I have come to expect from any good restaurant as an Indian myself. I have never felt the need to post such review for any restaurant in many years. All in all, folks from my social circle are not coming here again.

Very good food, and a little different than many other Indian places. It is certainly among the best Indian food Ive had. It did not have that taste and feel of ethnic food thats been Americanized, not even a little bit. Perhaps thats what constitutes "authentic." I dont know because I havent had Indian food outside of the United States (except for that Indian-Mexican-Chinese restaurant in Moscow). I tried the lassi made from cumin and salt. It was different. By itself, it did not agree with my (Americanized) tastes, but it paired very well with the food. It made a great combination. Great service. Very attentive and friendly. The price was reasonable for the quality of the food and the location. Two dishes were enough to eliminate the hunger of two people, but not so much as to require an adjusted belt. Does that make them small or a hedge against obesity and diabetes? Or both?

This place is a disaster. Extremely poor and rude service coupled with attitude from chef, who really should give up cooking. We decided to try this place after several disappointments last year as it was late for dinner and we were In the area. Server was rude and told us several vegetarian dishes on the menu were not available (chef is moody and does that a lot). Waited over an hour for main dishes and they did not bother checking for water. Food has technical problems and being Indian its extra difficult : the saag tasted stale, the tikka masala gravy was bland and was pure cream. And, we had asked to talk to owner soon after we had difficulty ordering with the server. Apparently too busy to talk to us as she wAs busy with a larger group of people. Finally, we even had to wait 20 min for the check. At that point, my wife walked to the cashier to get it settled.

My fiance and I love indian food and have tried several, from places in Palm Springs to LA and Orange County as well as all over the Globe. As far as the US goes, this is the most flavorful and spiciest indian food we have ever had. We asked the server to make the food spicy, if on a level of 1 to 10, we asked for a 12 and did they deliver. But it was a wonderful spicy mixed with so much flavor. From the chutney to the appetizers to the entres, they made everything spicy and so flavorful it was overwhelming that we both got light headed(no joke) from how great the food was. Definitely going back, over and over again. We were there last weekend and we going back this weekend! We had an appetizer, papadum, naan, and 2 entrees and it came out to about $80, worth every penny for food this great!! Enjoy!

Not sure at all why the bad reviews! My family has loved this place for many years and we are here tonight. The service wont kiss your ass, but they do a great job and make no mistakes, are considerate and precise. The food is the best Indian food in Newport Beach, and probably one of best in Orange County - and Ive been to India, NZ, London, others, this spot is solid. Its a bit pricey, but then again we are in Newport Corona Del Mar, so their rent is probably high. Ignore those low reviews, theres plenty of regulars and Native people from India. I usually like the high 4 star places and would never come to a 3.8 star place, but we know this place and its always magical and delicious

I guess 1 is the minimum we can give here or else I would have gone for Minus 5. Its the worst Indian place I have ever eaten. Reasons 1. All food was really bad from taste as well as quality perspective 2. We ordered samosa and the stuffing drinker which meant it was far from fresh and rather rotten. 3. Gobi masala was same experience as the samosa. 4. Chicken curry...the chicken smelled raw and long refrigerated sort. 5. Service was bad with just one person waiting and had to wait long at the table too I went with my family and parents who were visiting and it was a disaster. And after eating there we had stomach illness. Wont go back there and would never suggest anyone to go.

Twenty five years and you start to take anything no matter how great for granted. I do, thats how I know. Fantastic & authentic cuisine served in a really soft, casual atmosphere. Great traditional beers that I had never seen & that is saying something and the food is really excellent by even the critical reviews. Many awards to show for it but you can not deposit an award. Restaurants need support. Support this gem before you miss your chance. Once you do I trust you to will understand why I write....OH AND FOR THOSE NITS THAT LEFT THE FALSE CRAP ON REVIEWS...THAT IS DIGUSTING...FROZEN VEGTABLES PLEASE...

We had fish curry & chicken Biryani We mentioned to make it spicy, u dont believe their is not even one chilli in the biryani, Im writing this review to Indians Its only good for Americans For Indians, i suggest not to come here, no spice at all, but for people who like mild indian food its a good place. The IMP thing prices are so high! I accept it is due to the neighborhood but still the quantity & price their is no match at all. Bottm line: for desis a big NO For People who like mild a BIG YES!

By far the best Indian food I have ever had! I have traveled all ovrr the world and found msnh good Indisn resturants, but none evrn come close to this place. My family and I have have been going to Mayur since 1985 and they still have the same chef preparing the food. The Bhartha is my favorite and I have never had it made as good as they do it here. The service is excellent and the ambience is fabulous. I highly recommend this resturaunt.

Fortunately for me I live up the street from Mayur. I try to go for lunch several times a month and each time I go, I am met with the same friendly and hospitable service, excellent, colorful and fragrant dishes, and an ambient, relaxing atmosphere. For an hour or so, I get lost in the food and music as if Im actually in India. Mayur is beyond reproach and a rare find in the O.C.
