Giving one star cause there is no zero. Very unhygienic, dim lights to hide all flaws, the greasy plates and bugs in kitchen. India Cook house and Nataraj are the best here in Irvine. This clay oven is for non Indians who can eat anything with India stamp on it and say woooow!! This non sense rubbish isnt indian food. The manager and the rude old guy do not love Indians. We asked for bill copy, he asked us to take a picture in a rude sarcastic tone. Our 18month old sick son spat 2 spoons of rice and the old guy gives us a lecture on teaching kids to behave for untidiying his place,. He says he too raised kids and we should ask our child not to throw food. Well all he did was assume, our child didnt even touch the food. My kids are always rewarded for best behaviour. Just because we are Indians both acted as if we were uninvited. But yeah they forget we pay for the food too just like Americans do. What happened to his "sophistication act" that these duo play. Pretty cheap to charge for this doll house play size food. Chicken tikka masala beh,, cheaters. Cheating all the American folks. I asked the old guy to put up a board saying Indians and toddlers are not allowed. Such is the crazy show off business. And no toilet paper in the bathroom. Also, the young guy pulled off the neatly placed table cloth and served us on plain table, how cheap class, for all that they charge. An American friend recommended this place as it is near to our new home. But hey Im going to tell her. Word of mouth is fast. Everything here is pretty much boiled early morning and served late night. The ugly channa. Our toddler sometimes eats plain rice, he refused to eat everything. Our 7 YO eats bland food, she too hated the food and the behaviour of the old guy. She was like my brother is a baby. How rude of the old guy to say so. My kids are classy and wont put a morsel of garbage food in their mouth. Uncut leaves calling as salad. Bahaha. Have some ethics guys. Mr Manager you can never be an angrez with that false accent of yours, truth will always win. As an Indian, I believe serving food is the humblest act, you have made it a pricey business, for the food that even a dog wouldnt sniff, your attitude will surely give you bad karma. Esp, when you cant stand an innocent child who didnt even eat your pathetic food. Sick frustrated mentality human. Im ashamed of such Indians.

Tiny portion, WAY OVERPRICED. A friend took me here and we both had high expectations. Chicken tiki masala was our choice. $17.95...and it didnt come with rice. I asked the guy, "How am I supposed to eat it w/o rice? So we have to order rice for an EXTRA $3??!!" So, now this measly meal is costing us $21 pre tax. Unacceptable. For 5 or 6 bite size chunks of chicken, and a sauce that tasted like tomato sauce w/ tons of pepper, I didnt feel justified to pay that $21 price tag. It was not the creamy, yogurty. flavorful dish I was anticipating from my time at other restaurants. In my experiences, this dish costs me $10-$11...add some naan for a few bucks extra, and you get your moneys worth. If youre craving good indian food and not looking to spend alot, I would go elsewhere. Like "Bollywood Cafe/Bollywood Cafe 2" in Hollywood. TRUST ME, I wouldnt waste my time to write this if I didnt truly think this. On a lighter note, the tall skinny guy server we had was VERY nice and attentive.

If youve ever been to a real Indian food restaurant youll know what i mean when I say its not the real deal. The food isnt very good for the price. They dont add a lot of spice, and its weird because they make their Indian food disgustingly sweet. Also on top of your $18 meal you will also be charged $3 just for a small bowl of rice which is normally free with any meal any other place you go, and if you want a small bowl of rice with meat or vegetables cooked in its an additional $18. Then after we got our food to go they put my husbands meat dish with my vegetarian dish and tipped it on its side so it all mixed together and was dripping out of the container and leaking through the paper bag, but because we had already paid the bill they saw no reason to fix it.

Menu - Nothing Special. Food - OK. ThanksGiving Tandoori Turkey - Very good. Ordered for the past 6 years. BUT .. Regardless of what time your order your pick up for, you will end up waiting for an hour at their door, while your guests are waiting at yours!! .. Same excuse is given every year - "a clay oven broke down". .. to top it all, I noticed certain customers do get to walk in, pass the long wait line and pick up their order immediately!!!! ............SO FRUSTRATING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think they should take limited orders and make sure they deliver as promised & keep their loyal customers happy. One would think after this many years in business, this simple process would be perfected. I will order my ThanksGiving Turkey elsewhere next year.

I was born and raised in India so I think I can speak from experience about the taste and quality of "Indian Cuisine." I recently ordered a paneer masala and some naan from this place and it was horrible! The food was unbelievably bad and the portions were tiny! The total cost was over $40! I ordered the same thing at India Cook House and it was uncomparably better and the total cost there was $21 (this also included a side of rice). In addition, the service at Clay Oven is terrible! In my humble opinion: Drive 2 miles to the corner of Walnut & Culver to Indian Cook House. The service is much better, the portions are much bigger, the prices are more reasonable, the variety is larger and frankly the place is packed =)

I went there this past weekend and I was flattered by the service from the moment I walked in. I was greated by the friendly Manager and my chair was pulled out for me. The samosas were amazing, the chicken tikka masala was very well made with the chicken well cooked and well marinated. The curry was spicy, but not overdone. The okra was fresh, handcut, and freshly stir fried with tomatoes and onions and provided for an aromatic and tasty dish. The naan was fresh, and the desert, the mango Cremebrule was phenomenal. I would reccomend this restaurant for anyone wanting some good indian food in Southern california. It definitely beats out Royal Khyber and Diamond Palace and any other Restaurant in Artesia, CA.

I am an Indian who has lived and travelled all over India and know what Indian cusines truly are. I have travelled globally checking North, South, West & East Indian cusine. The food is bad and tarnishes the true meaning of Indian food. For people who do not know better this may seem an ok restaurent, but for those who know Indian food the taste, texture and spices are horrible. The person serving had an attitude problem. The food unreasonably expensive. You dont dump boiled chicken into an overspiced curry of spinach and call it saag chicken. Similarly boiled vegetables with sprinkled spices do not make an Indian vegetarian dish! There are much better places than this one. STAY AWAY.
