Was dining here for a birthday celebration. We were greeted promptly by the wait staff and the ambiance of the restaurant was great. Has a very traditional feel and lots of historical reference to the history of the company. This would be the only reason for any type of rating for the place. Our food took well over an acceptable time frame to be served. We eventually had to ask the server to check on our food. When the food did come out my tacos were cold. I informed the server of the issue and was told a new set was going to be made. The tacos that came out for the second round felt and tasted like they had been the original tacos zapped in the microwave. Will not be going back to this restaurant again.

Chips and salsa are great. Heavier tomato flavor which I love. They have two other hot salsas that are dynamite (flavor and heat wise). Sonoran enchilada is a must try: green and red sauce chicken enchiladas with a fried egg on top. Heavenly. Pork chile verde is awesome. The meat is so soft and has such amazing flavor. The sauce is a heavily flavored tomatillo sauce. I had to mix with some salsa and it was perfect. Enchiladas are amazing. Its just an amazing place to eat.

This is some of the best Mexican food in California. Love the tacos and Plato de carnitas. Start out with their nachos. Fun fact the lady who invented Nachos worked for El Chollo!!. We like our nachos with beans on the bottom,chips cheese and jalapenos.Simple but delicious! Also the el chollo margarita Cadillac style .... is Awesome. If you want some spice ask for a side of habanero salsa..... ehhhhhhh holeee!

Friendly, clean and most of all delicious. Service is happy, kind and caring w/great recommendations. We have dined at the LA locations many times and enjoy this one just as much, maybe even more...the parking is easier. Bravo!

MY WIFE AND i HAVE BEEN EATING AT EL CHOLO FOR OVER 50 YEARS.THIS WAS OUR FIRST VISIT TO THE NEW PORT LOCATION. THE FOOD AND DRINKS WERE AS GOOD AS WE REMEMBERED.THE SERVICE WAS EXCELLENT . CAN NOT WAIT TO RETURN.

The staff was very friendly and accommodating for my party of 10. Their menu is not as vegetarian friendly but thats pretty standard for Mexican cuisine. Otherwise, I highly recommend it.
