The future has arrived and now you dont need to decide between ice cream or a donut. Novel offers the Dough Melt. This place could be considered the Chino Bandido of desserts. The staff is great and very welcoming. So here is my impression of my Dough Melt experience... The Donut: The glazed fluffy donut was just warm enough to taste fresh but not melt the ice cream too quickly. My wife loved it. The Ice Cream: This artisan ice cream comes in many different and unique flavors. I went with the Mochachinno. The taste was good but not over powering. I did not notice any espresso flavor which I understood to be present. The Dough Melt: I was really looking forward to trying this heavenly dessert but was a bit disappointed. The combo, of course, is a gimmick that sounds wonderful; but in the real world, the donut flavor came through a bit strong for my taste. I wasnt able to necessarily decipher the ice cream from the donut on most of the bites. The donut wasnt overly glazed, it was just that the ice cream was such a mild flavor. I will definitely be back but this time I will jump at the chance of getting a bowl of ice cream w/ toppings. The donut was just a transport device that I just dont need.

Le boyfriend and I visited this fresh new establishment over their recent grand opening weekend. Wasnt quite sure what to expect since this isnt typical retail space, so for those who are just as confused as I was: Novel Ice Cream is a small red cottage in the shared complex of the ThirdSpace art collective, next to other cottages that house (if memory serves) a boutique shop, barber, tattoo shop, all behind ThirdSpace "proper," which is a bar and cafe. Its a cozy little multi-leveled area, with parking available along Grand or 11th Avenue. Anyway, Novel itself was a gem, with very friendly and personable staff. Very tasty ice cream with some unique flavors, and VERY tasty and unique donut sandwiches. "Wait, donut sandwiches" you say? Yeah, they serve up ice cream stuffed inside of warm donuts. Just when you thought you were getting your jiggly love handles under control, the owners at Novel were like, "Nah man. Desserts WITHIN desserts." Boyfriend got the Marshmallow Sundae with Lucky Charms Marshmallows, I got the Honey Lavender with Cinnamon Toast Crunch. 10/10 would get jiggly love handles again.

We wanted to end Prom night with some ice cream, and there were only 2 places open so we decided to take a shot in the dark and go for this, and what an amazing decision it was! The owners are such fantastic charasmiatic people, they really care about their customers! At about 11:30 a man had come in and asked for a donut (they are amazing by the way) and the owner said that he felt that they werent up to his standards and didnt want to make him pay for it, after that he also got the mans contact info and told him he would not be paying next time he showed up, and to top it all off he then offered to go out and get fresh donuts for this one guy at 11:45 completely for free. That shows so much about the character of these nice people, I will definitely be coming here again! Another wonderful thing about this small shop is that the flavors are so rich and unique, I have never found an ice cream shop that has sold Honey Lavender and it was the best thing I had tasted all week! Ive already recommended you to several friends and family. To sum it all up keep up the top notch work Novel!

NEVER. IN. MY. LIFE. have I ever experienced such amazing ice cream!! And I am an absolute ice cream fiend!!!! My best friend and I shared 2 different orders. We ordered the waffle sandwich with honey lavender ice cream and fruity pebbles cereal inside....TO DIE FOR. I thought it couldnt get any better, but the moment I chomped down on our second order (donut sandwhich with butter pecan ice cream & cinnamon toast crunch cereal inside) I couldnt stop my eyes from rolling back in pure bliss. The most amazing thing Ive ever put inside my mouth! I will be a regular at this shop from now on. Also AMAZING workers there! Very personable and friendly. They let us sample EVERY SINGLE FLAVOR they had (by their suggestion). A++++++++ experience!

Yum. Randomly saw a sign on the side of the road...it was the best thing I seen all day. Tried out the stuffed doughnut with half cookie monster [cookies & cream] and half bourbon on the rocks. OMG...we took a bit getting into it so it was a little melted...who cares....I would have drank it out of the bag it was so delicious. The doughnut was perfectly warm and the ice cream was super creamy, it was so smooth and full of flavor without being overbearing. We definitely need to come back and try the waffle sandwich next. They have floats and if you are like me and cant make up your mind....try the flight option. Otherwise a scoop or three in the Oreo cone....what!?!

This place is pretty delicious, I went thinking it was just some other ice cream shop but then the people there showed us the personality of the place and it made the experience a lot better. I ordered the bourbon ice cream (forgot the actual name) inside the dough melt with cinnamon toast crunch, which is the favorite combination I guess but I can see why, it was so good. Didnt get a chance to get myself one of the Surge they had in the fridge but better luck next time I guess:p 10/10

Novel Ice Cream is as good as it gets! I wish I had the self control to take a photo, but I inhaled my ice cream stuffed doughnut before doing so! The combination of a warm glazed doughnut with any of their artisan ice cream is almost too delicious to describe with words. YOU NEED TO TRY ONE!!! Brandon and Jenifer are some of the coolest and down to earth small business owners Ive had the pleasure of meeting. Go to Novel, bring your friends, and you wont regret it!

Stopped in after eating at third space while waiting for my mechanic to look over my vehicle. Hands down, the best ice cream I have had in the Phoenix area. Put it in a doughnut, and its just heavenly. I dont know how they make a profit selling the ice cream doughnuts for $5, but I almost felt bad only paying that much. Brandon, who I think is the owner, was super friendly and helpful. We will be back soon.

Brandon and his wife run the best Ice cream spot in all of downtown. His dedication to his customers and the superior product they offer are second to none. He even goes the extra mile by staying open late, offering free samples, and even a small treat for your pets! We seriously come here once a week as he always has different flavors available.

Let me tell you, I love donuts, I love ice cream, this is heaven! The ice cream has amazing flavors, I had the butter pecan and I will say it was phenomenal. Brandon and Jennifer provided excellent customer service explaining everything to us and letting us sample everything. I will be coming back and I will be sharing this with everyone I know..

Ice cream is amazing. Donuts are amazing. Ice cream in a donut? Simply a match made in heaven. Excellent selection of artisan ice creams to choose from as well as a handful of awesome cereal toppings. These dudes figured out how to stuff a donut with ice cream and heat it up without the ice cream melting. Voodoo magic if you ask me.
