The hole in the wall look of the building is what attracted me to eat BBQ here. Ive found that the fancier or more expensive the building always translates to a poorer BBQ experience. In this case, it worked well, even though they apparently do not use Hickory or Pecan wood for firing coals or even for smoking. So its not the best, but definitely is not the worst. I recommend it to those who want as close to a real BBQ experience that is available anywhere around these parts. We ate the pork plate which included a side of brunswick stew and baked beans. In BBQ circles, the real stuff (brunswick stew) is called BURGOO (yep, thats right, Burgoo - originated in western Kentucky). Theirs is passable, but I recommend they loose the potatoes and include a larger variety of veggies with more sauce and meat. The flavor and sauce consistency was not bad, but is probably just a 7 on a 1-10 scale. Their baked beans are not recommended, needed some serious southern help. Flavor is OK but the look, preparation and consistency is poor in my opinion. Since I am from the panhandle of Florida, where there is no such thing as passable BBQ, this place was a real find for me! I will be back again, no doubt. Thanks for the great service and for the best BBQ experience that Ive had in this part of the country.

I give them five stars for the best hamburgers in town! Most of the food is actually really good! Im not a big fan of the BQ sauce, but my family loves it. So, I guess it all depends on taste buds. The service is in need of work, I noticed today when my mother and I went to lunch here that most of the clientele are men. It wasnt that big of a deal until after we were brushed off by the main female cashier, while the men received special attention. Weve noticed this a couple times when we have come in without my dad and was welcomed with a cold reception. My family and I always go at lunch, so I am not sure about the dinner hours or if the attitude changes with the time. If you care more about the food than the service then this is your place!

Ive been craving for fried green tomatoes for two months and couldnt find any. So of course with todays technology I googled it and this little place popped up. Not only were the tomatoes amazing, the chili dogs are as well and really big portions! The sweet tea was great too! To top it all off the owner after finding out it was our first visit brought us a sample of all the desserts for the day. Banana pudding, peach cobbler and cherry jubilee; all three were mouth watering with each bite! Well worth the drive for us from Cottondale, Florida to enjoy this little spot! Awesome food and good southern hospitality! Thank you to the owner and staff for a great visit!

Went over the weekend and this shack used to be the place for bbq. It seems to have gone down hill. for a family of four we ordered two kids hot dog plates and three bbq sandwiches and some fried pickles and drinks, the total was 58 bucks. Unbelievable!!! we could have went to Conestoga and had a full meal with Filet mignon for that price, instead all we got was a few sandwiches. Bbq was stringy and tough as well. looks like its all about the money now. Quality is just not there anymore, especially for the price. shame...

When I travel I seek out BBQ joints, and am usually disappointed. The Bar BQ Shack in Dothan, AL did not let me down. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich as I always do the first time I visit a BBQ joint. It was good. Nothing to write home about, but Im not looking for that. It had everything it needed, color, flavor, smokiness, and a good sauce (I had the sweet). Its what a BBQ should be, a hole in the wall with good bbq. Im amazed by how often "bbq" restaurants fail at this. Good job Bar BQ Shack!

The BBQ shack is awesome. Some of the best barbecue that I have ever had. Although I live in Panama City, I make frequent trips to Dothan to see my daughter and grandson. I always try to make it by the BBQ Shack for at least on meal while I am visiting. The ribs are excellent, and so are the sandwiches. They also put out a fine steak if you arent in the mood for BBQ. They also have the nicest people working there. Kin Hall

Home to my favorite barbecue sauce & pulled pork. Try the pulled pork sandwich with hot sauce (mild/medium hardly have any heat & hot is more like medium at other joints), fried pickles, cheese grits & banana pudding. Its a bit pricey for a lunch joint & exactly as advertised: a shack, but the above items are leaps & bounds better than any other restaurants in the area.

We come here for the Carolina BBQ... And, fried pickles. The owners are from NC and this is the only place I know in state that serves it. The BBQ shack is kinda off the beaten path. The service is great and friendly. Food is excellent and worth the trip. Dont expect any fancy plating or eating utensils, just some down to earth people and some good food.

Pulled pork much better than beef, bbq sauce is not my style, too much vinegar. Fried okra is delicious. A little pricy for serving size. All in all a decent little place, cute girls behind counter

I live close by and that smell never gets old. They keep with tradition and smoke their meats on site. Thats getting more and more rare these days. Keep it coming guys! And now Im hungry again....

Yep, its a shack, but the food is anything but. Place is tiny, but the taste is huge. Great portions and priced fair for what you get. If its BBQ you want, this is the place to get it.....

Food is good. Great to eat on site. Dont suggest call in orders. Staff not trained on how to take orders. Got order wrong twice in a row. Another bad experience today.

Okay food, somewhat bland brunswick stew. The pulled pork was really moist but the sauce (hot) didnt have much flavor. Kind of pricey considering the food.

the ribeye is one of the best I have ever had. I usually eat it once a week. The mashed potatoes are "real" ones that are delicious.

Best in Alabama! Pork is unbelievable. Stake is worth the money. Shrimp is great, grilled is my preference. I love the food!

Food is okay probably would do better if you would not hire them kids from middle school to run the register. 06-28-17 1 pm
