The Log Cabin Restaurant is one of the better dining spots around the Baraboo area. We often frequent the Cabin when we go out for a meal, and have many times recommended it to friends and community visitors. The food & service has been top notch .... until tonight! In the last couple of weeks they changed the menu and began offering a couple of new dishes... good! They are known for their great soups and we commonly try them. As we did tonight - the menu states that soup comes with the meal, and thats what we ordered. It was as good as expected. When the waiter brought our bill, I noted that both of us were charged an additional .90 cents for a soup upgrade. We did not have any upgrade, so I quizzed the waiter about it. He told us that it is an error in the new menu and they forgot to post it - but the charge was accurate. I questioned further as his response made no sense. He asked for our payment at the table - which we complied with the extra $1.80 paid. He returned with our change stating that he had just spoken with the Manager about my concern - and she had apologized for the menu error - but the added charge was valid. He noted that other customers had questioned the charge to him also - but that it was a valid charge. At the front counter I re-read the menu and verified there was no mention of an extra charge. I then quizzed the Manager about it and she told me that there was NOT such a charge. I presented her with my receipt and she was very confused. I then asked if he had spoken to her about my complaint at the table and she stated that he had not. I asked for my refund as it was apparent that the waiter was up to no good, and the $1.80 was returned. As I had left a tip for the waiter on the table, I went back to recover it as he clearly was lying to us. He had taken it and immediately went into hiding. I asked the Manager to call him over so that I could speak to him in front of her ... she declined, stating that she would talk to him. I told her of his taking the tip money I left, and that I would like it returned - offering they could share it with the other wait staff - but he should not keep it! She stated that she would talk to him about it also. Will we go back ... likely yes as we live here & enjoy the better side of Log Cabin. But we wont accept that guy as our waiter again..., and will always pay at the front desk - not direct to the waiters pocket. Waiter rating tonight - VERY POOR!

We stopped by for lunch since the place looks great from the outside. There were four people in our group and we all ordered different dishes. The restaurant was not busy and our food arrived within a few minutes (literally). I ordered steak and it turned out being the best choice since although it lacked seasoning I was able to make up for it with salt and pepper. The meat was OK. My wife ordered a chicken breast and she didnt finish it. I tried a piece and to this day Im amazed how they managed to serve chicken with absolutely no flavor (non what-so-ever). It had no flavor to a point where you dont want to eat it, it doesnt feel right. All of our side dishes were canned with nothing done to them. The other two dishes we ordered were just as bad so we quickly grabbed the check and figured well just have to wait until dinner to get a decent meal. We were asked to fill out a survey (it was part of the check) and we did. They seemed astonished by our low ratings (I marked everything "1" as thats how we felt about the place) and asked us why we rated them so badly. I explained to the manager that not only were all the sides canned, the main dishes were not seasoned or otherwise prepared but also the food arrived so quickly that the only explanation was that we received microwaved food. The manager was apologetic but visibly not surprised. Dont let the decor fool you, go somewhere else!

I was in town for the 2009 Dances With Dirt Marathon at Devils Lake. Alyson was my waitress. I was starving and couldnt make up my mind, so she recommended this chicken breast dish with mushrooms and cheese I think (I gobbled it down so fast I didnt see everything that was on it). It came with a basket of breads that I devoured. If youre looking for traditional cornbread, youll be disappointed because it is nicely sweet. I like it sweet, but purists want it salty. Delicious! It also came with a baked potato, which was fine as far as baked potatoes go, and fantastic garlic pasta dish that had cheese, carrots, and squash/broccoli I think. For dessert, I had the banana cream pie, which was very good. I also placed a to-go order for more pasta and I just finished it in my motel room ... yum! I paid $16, which I thought was quite reasonable for tremendous serving size I received (this included a soft drink, the bread basket, the two large chicken breast entree, the pasta, the baked potato, the L-A-R-G-E piece of pie, and the take-out order of pasta. The outside of the restaurant looked promising, but the interior was even more so ... its really nice inside. My waitress was knowledgeable, friendly, efficient, and made fantastic recommendations. I dont imagine Ill ever make it back to this neck of the woods, but if I do, Ill definitely stop again! Five Stars!

I recently visited with my husband. He got a sandwich and I got the meatloaf with garlic mash and carrots, my entrée came with my choice of bread. I picked the raspberry-lemon which was delicious. While enjoying the bread I discovered a beetle baked into it. I contemplated going around the beetle, and finishing my bread because it was that good, consuming a beetle wouldnt kill me, and Ive worked in kitchens before and know that accidents happen. I decided to bring it to the attention of our waitress, so they could examine the rest of their bread and prevent another customer from being served beetle bread. Our waitress took immediate action. She offered to replace the bread which I turned down because I didnt want to fill up on bread, she removed the bread and utensils that had come into contact with the beetle and with out us requesting management involvement brought it to managements attention. The manager gave us a discount on our meal without us asking, assured us that they were going to bring it to the attention of the bakers and asked if there was anything else they could do to make it right. I feel as if the staff was more upset than I was over the situation, and went above and beyond to make it right for us. The food was excellent, as was the service and this minor incident will not keep me from returning. I highly recommend this restaurant.

We live just 16 miles from the Log Cabin and visit there frequently. We have ALWAYS found the food to be great and the service excellent. When they are busy, which is often, it can be a bit noisy but it is worth putting up with the noise to get the food. Food always arrives quickly and hot. Its not a fancy restaurant but instead a place you can just get up and go to no matter how you are dressed. Thats a good thing because we do that often. Their prices are reasonable and their portion sizes are more than we can eat. We always need a take home container. Wonderful place I highly recommend. Oh, got to add that their baked goods are to die for!
