My husband and I went to eat here. We are from out of town and thought because this place had wonderful ratings and reviews that it would be good... we got seated immediately. Waited 15 mins to get drink ordered. Waited 10 mins for drinks. Had to ask another waitress for refills. Didnt get any other refills during meal... "our waitress" comes over amd asked if we needed to go boxes. We said no. So she grabs our plates amd takes them. We were not even done with our food.. meanwhile every table around us got refills like crazy. We asked to speak with a manager and one guy comes up amd sticks up for the waitress. Then a second one comes up and says he is the manager/owner and still sticks up for her wrong doings... then tells us to never come back. Now, yes they were busy for a small restaurant, but that doesnt excuse the fact that we got crappy service and others by us got excellent service. My husband and I have worked this type of work. We tip very well... tonight I didnt even leave a penny... maybe the owner will see this and see what really happened since he didnt even wanna hear our side...

Probably the best Mexican in baton rouge. The owners definitely makes it all come together. You will almost always be greeted by him and some conversation when you sit down. I normally get burritos but the chicken. Quesadillas are to die for. Aside: a lot of bad reviews go after this place on account of the wait staff, however my one bad experience was rectified by simply talking to the owner( who is always there). I didnt even ask for a refund, just told him what had happened and he tore up my ticket and asked for a chance to prove they were worth it in the future. Great family run business, fantastic food and morals. Give it a chance.

Some reviewers are saying they were seated but we stood around a good 10 minutes with a waiter just walking back and forth past us the whole time not acknowledging us. The owner shuffled out of the back and gestured us towards out seats. He was very friendly but we felt very ignored by the waiters. It took another 15 minutes to get our drinks. The restaurant was by no means packed and I understand being busy but you should still acknowledge customers and let them know they will be attended to. The food was ok. The owner is very friendly and welcoming but the waiters make me not want to come back to this place.

We stopped here when we was coming from florida back to Houston and the lady who attended asked me how i wanted my "tacos" 9 times after writing it down and after 1hr of waiting on 6 orders of tacos she still got it wrong... $88 dollars for tacos that does not taste good at all...If u are hispanic and really want tacos trust me this is not the place they do not know how to make them no sauce for tacos we used the chips sauce that was not spicy at all! Save ur self some money before u leave disappointed...they were nice they just dont know what their selling.

When we arrived, there were only 2 other tables with people at them. Somehow, we still had to wait at least 45 min to an hour for our food to come after we ordered, meanwhile we got to watch other several other people come in after us, order, get their food, eat, pay and leave... I ordered a margarita, there are no prices listed, and I couldnt believe the check when it was over $10 for a small margarita full of ice. The only reason Im giving 2 stars instead of 1 is that the waitress kept the chips coming, and the owner/cook came out and said hi to everyone.

OMG, This place is disgusting. I came here with a friend to celebrate her birthday. The moment we walked in there was a foul smell in the restaurant. The waitress brought us a bowl of nachos with salsa and our silverware as soon as i looked at my fork i noticed dried roach dung on it. the salsa had an orange color to it and it smelled like sour meat. The menus had dried crusty salsa on them. We walked out immediately without ordering. OMG, This place is disgusting.

This small, family owned & operated Mexican restaurant has a great menu selection & excellent food! Dont let its location & small outward appearance fool you! Though their fare is presented in a different manner than most Mexican restaurants that Ive been to, it doesnt take away from its delicious taste. However, if theres a full house when you arrive, you may wait longet than youd like for your order.

El Rio Grande Mexican Restaurant is a very home-like restaurant. It should be. The owners live there! Their nacho chips, tamales, beans, rice, and enchiladas are all better than what you ll find at other Mexican restaurants. Yes, it s a simple (one could even say shabby) place, but their food is inexpensive and delicious! RJT

Just like dining with your best friends! Its a wonderful neighborhood type restaurant. Server Courtney is as good as it can possibly get, treating her customers as though they were her own family. Weve always come away from Rio Grande with great memories and wonderfully content bellies!!!

If you want good food and personal service come here, if you want a candlelit location to impress someone, better go somewhere else. The food is a good Tex-Mex style. Simple and tasty. Its not an interior designers dream, cozy with reasonable prices. MUCH better than Superior Grill.

So many hidden cost. Be sure to ask thoroughly what you are getting and the quantity. Severely disssapointed. Do not recommend. Save you money. Go to superior or la carettas for similar or lower prices and more food quality and quantity

This was my wifes first time eating here and lets just say our regular Mexican restaurant has been replaced. She loved the fact that Mr.Joe came out and talked to us and played with the kids and made us feel right at home....

Not Mexican food what so ever!!!!! Taco Bell has better food than this place. The menu is American based style so called Mexican food. Will never recommend this place to anyone!!!!!!

Disappointed. This used to be a great place, but that was years ago. The cheese on our food tasted almost like Velveeta. It definitely wasnt actual cheddar.
