Ex-employee here to tell you they dont appreciate or stick up for the staff. If a customer is being unreasonable or yelling at waitresses, theyll still serve them. There was a man who frequently tried to touch the girls as they worked, but they wouldnt throw him out because he was a "regular" who tipped well. Of course, as a family running a restaurant, theyre trying to provide for their children, but theyre still professional business owners who are meant to have SOME loyalty to their staff. When I was working there, the tips were split unfairly. Shogun is a family run business, the hibachi chef and sushi chef are married. When I was working alone, the tips would get split into thirds, with the husband and wife getting a third EACH even though they own the business. When I did ask, they told me "Thats how its done at hibachi places" despite not serving in front of people. The husband is constantly on his phone and complains whenever people go through the door. He complains about orders being too long or too short. He complains when its slow and when its busy. Yet hes always out in the dining area sharing sake with his favourites. The reason portions are so small is because he often offers free alcohol to his friends. The wife is always yelling at her CHILDREN to work (without a child labour license). She puts up a front of being nice and motherly to The customers, but she also cannot say no. She refuses to tell customers that certain things are not okay and FREQUENTLY tosses the staff under the bus if we make a mistake. However, shell make it seem like no big deal if she makes the same mistakes and is quick to take praise for everything. The pair are also horrible gossips, pitting waitresses against each other and insulting us AND the customers in Chinese because they think we dont understand. The husband is a flirt and the wife is catty about any woman prettier or younger than her. They are not nice people, they are using customers for the money and skimp on portion size PURPOSEFULLY, and are frequently unhygenic, using dropped ingredients without sanitizing. None of the food is fresh, its all frozen. Support minimum wage workers, DO NOT GO HERE. DO NOT WORK HERE. If you DO GO, PLEASE go up to the register to pay and make sure to ask about how tips are split. Question why they get thirds if they own the business. Ask that all your tip goes to the wait staff. If they feed you the same line about "other hibachi restaurants", comment on them not cooking in front of you like "other hibachi restaurants". PS: That ginger salad you like so much gets chopped in the morning (usually midweek) and served from a bucket for several days, even when I and other waitresses have pointed out wilted lettuce. Its gross, dont get it.

I am an ex employee and i am here to tell the truth about this place. The meat and seafood is not fresh. It is all bulk frozen and then defrosted. Everything is drowned in soy sauce. My employers are demeaning and very rude. They yelled at my coworkers and in front of customers too! They just put on a show for customers but behind the curtains they are very unprofessional. They didnt inform me they were closing down for a whole week to go on vacation. Leaving 3 working mothers out of work for a whole week. We were never told in person we found out from a sign a week prior to them leaving. They dont care about their employees and they just want money. If you can tell from their portions. I just wanted to tell you my experience here as a worker watching the food being made. Just terrible.

I have eaten here about a half dozen times or more and have always had a great meal. The food is always fresh from the fish down to the lettuce in the salad. The dining room AND kitchen is spotless. How do I know about the kitchen? Because they have a big glass window where you can look right into the kitchen and see the cooks. That is a big deal to me. They clearly are happy to show you the food prep area and that says a lot. It appears to be a husband and wife run business. They are friendly and the prices are perfect for my budget. They have a lot of combo specials which offer you a variety of items all for around $10 - $12 or so.

My roommate took me here about a month ago because he told me his boss takes him there for work meetings all the time and it was delicious.. I went in with high expectations and was NOT dissappointed! It was such great food and the owner and his wife are the nicest people you will ever meet. (Not to mention.. the prices are so low for what youre getting!) I have gone back at least once a week (sometimes twice) since my first visit. New favorite place!

Great service but I ordered the lunch and I must admit I was disappointed in the portion size. Everything was smaller, salad, tiny scoop of rice and a wee pile of veggies. Id come back for dinner because the flavor was amazing good and identical to a top end Japanese Steakhouse. A bit pricy for the lunch portion though.

Absolutely delicious food, and great staff. Plus great location. I only gave it 4 stars because portion sizes are a bit on the stingy side. Plus the difference in portions between lunch and dinner entrees are not that much but the price difference is unreasonable.

The sashimi was DELICIOUS! Great service....will return. Having a 5 star sushi house & a 5 star Thai next to each other is too much for my taste buds to bare! Both are awesome in their chosen fair.

Finally a great Japanese restaurant - not just a teriyaki shop. Sushi was very tasty and fresh, steak teppan yaki was great as well, with good sauces and veggies. Definitely coming back here!

Its a great find! Its so nice to have a place to get a good meal that isnt fast food or teriyaki. The food is great and I have never been disappointed! The staff is always nice and friendly.

Tender hibachi steak. One of the best salmon skin hand rolls Ive had (and Ive had many many, its my thing) - ask for it, its not on the menu. Great price. Excellent, friendly service!

Demeaning employees in front of customers is never a good way for return buisness. Ever. I will be telling everyone I know. Watching that really upset me. Just plain rude.

Five stars for service and effort. The sushi is surprisingly good for the price. The ginger salad dressing is also out of this world. Solid choice for some sushi or rolls.

Food was a great value for the cost and the service was fast. I have been there for lunch two times and will return. No frills and family owned and operated.
