Its not a torta, its not quite an "authentic" Cuban sandwich (whatever that means), but its delicious. I think most of the bad reviews for Paseo come from people walking in and expecting something completely different from what they were served on the plate. Having your expectations punched in the nuts is a sure-fired way to have a bad experience. In general, being punched in the nuts is not good. The sandwiches here are delightful. I went at a slightly off-peak hour (just before 5PM on a weekday) and was able to order and sit right down. My sandwich was brought out to me in about 5 minutes and I was impressed from the first bite. A small note about sandwiches ... I have had great sandwiches in many parts of this and other countries. I also hate when people write reviews that say "I have had a fine sandwich, and you sir...are no fine sandwich." So, im not going to do that. What Im going to do is tell you that each fine sandwich has its own merits that you have to understand and explore. You cannot and should not try to compare that great Cubano that you had in Havana or DF to the pastrami youre eating at Katzs or the #2 youre scarfing down at Zingermans. Enjoy each sandwich for what it is, where it is, and for what its worth. If there is a better pork sandwich being done anywhere between Vancouver, BC and Portland, OR please point it out. Because I will go there instead of Paseo. As far as I can tell, such a mythical place of sandwich decadence does not exist outside of Fremont, so Im giving my stars to Paseo. They deserve each and every single one. Now the bad stuff... The mayo/oil on this sandwich isnt bad, its just too plentiful. It will spill beyond the paper wrapping right onto your jeans. You have been warned. There are jalapenos on many of these sandwiches, so if you dont like heat you had better let them know up front. You have been warned. The baguette doesnt really hold up well on this sandwich as you get near the end. It will fall apart and you will be picking things up with your index finger and thumb. It will be delicious, but messy. Thats why they clearly label the table wipes as "FOR THE TABLES ONLY, NOT YOUR HANDS AND FACE." You will need a wet wipe, but they dont have any. Take your own, or take your sandwich to a safe place where you can feel free to get messy. You have been warned...

Location: is kind of hidden, so you have to look for it or know where its next to. Its a red building with a lot of people in front of it. Cleanliness: from what I could see ,it was very clean. The tables and the kitchen counter were always being wiped down. The place was very tidy and simple. View/ ambiance: it is a very laid-back and relax place we can go enjoy good food with people you know. It is simple on the eye and not overdone. Taste: Good food. I enjoyed the carribean sandwhich. The baguettes used are delicious and crisp. The paseo sandwhich is almost like a cubano with its own spin. Good food always a line. But I question where in the carribean is this food from? Im from the carribean and am at a loss. Cooks are no where from the carribean which makes me wonder if they may add their own twist here and again. Good food, delicious pork with an amazing flavor! Curious to taste true carribean food. Service: the service is very quick, friendly, and fast. Theyre very helpful and help you decide what is really good and what is very tasty. Very friendly people always willing to help. Overall: I had a good, quick, fun experience there. It was easy to order food and easy to make a choice. The Ambiance is very nice and very relaxing. It is a place I look forward to going to all the time and trying new food. Even though it is hard not border the Caribbean Roast Sandwich every time because of how much flavor it has. LOL. Definitely recommend to go and try the food.

I had been hearing great things about this place for years but its way out of my normal travel radius so I didnt get there to try it until recently. A lot have people have told me that the quality dropped here when ownership changed. I didnt get a chance to try it until after and Im guessing that theyre correct. I was very underwhelmed. If youre making Cuban sandwiches, follow the formula that has been successful for years. If you want to tweak that, no problem, you own your restaurant. Do what you want but please keep the original as an option for those of us who arent looking for an avant garde version. If I go way out of my way to have something and find that you serve a variation of it that doesnt match the original, its going to be a letdown for me. A Cuban sandwich is ham, pulled pork, mustard, cheese, pickles and a really great bun smashed flat on a grill. There is no cilantro or huge hunks of onion. Making matters worse, the pulled pork was pretty dried out as well. I wont be back and definitely dont recommend this. I will give props for service. The people there were very nice and had my order to me in a very reasonable amount of time. If you guys want to take a crack at making a proper Cubano, let me know and Ill give it another try but until then, Ill pass on this

I came here for lunch at 2:15PM on a Friday, assuming it would be empty; I was shocked to find a long line out the door, even with the threat of rain looming. Obviously, this place is well-known, and for good reason. We ended up waiting about 45 minutes to order, and another 15-20 to receive our food after that. The line went fast enough, and the cashier at the front was very courteous, unlike what I would expect in a similar situation in New York City. I got the Caribbean Roast sandwich, which is their specialty. I have to say: it is the best sandwich I have had in my life to date. I was hard-pressed to think of a sandwich that was that close, honestly. The famous cheesesteaks of Philadelphia were no match; only a deli sandwich from 2nd Ave Deli in NYC is close, but no cigar. There is so much going on in this sandwich. The pork is sopping with juice and flavor. The aioli adds a pop, and the caramelized onions add some sweetness and complexity. Add some cilantro and romaine for a little bit of balance and a lightly toasted baguette and this thing is damn close to perfect. Keep in mind, though: it is near impossible to eat without making a tremendous mess. Be prepared to be covered in sauce, but you wont mind.

Was quite disappointed after reading the reviews and finally visiting the Fremont location. The place is pretty filthy. Layers of grime covering the napkin dispenser, sticky darkened tabletops, smudge covered mirrors. The kind of filth and grime that consists of years of neglect. The bathroom was the cleanest part of the visit but it was gross as well. The food was extremely greasy and as bland as cardboard. Couldnt finish the food. The black beans literally tasted like cardboard. Red sauce on the scallops didnt have any taste at all. Salad was crisp but tasted like nothing but olive oil. Quite sad. The steady line of customers seemed to not be familiar with the menu, leading me to believe that they were first time visitors as well. Hopefully their experience was better than mine. I wont be going back.
