Very cheap quality, worst service I have ever had. Embarrassing! My girlfriend and I visited San Juan Island for Valentines Day, and the experience was great... except for dinner. I chose this place as they seemed to have a variety of seafood entrees. When we ordered my girlfriend (fairly health conscious) asked the server which of a couple ideas would be the healthiest. The server replied saying its all "really healthy." With this information my girlfriend ordered a simple sounding grilled salmon. For a $25 or so entree the salmon came out saturated in oil (even in my opinion- an pretty unhealthy eater) and served over Rice-A-Roni quality rice. Then it got embarrassing... The server came by asking how the food was (horrible, though we were reluctant to say so). The server (with a booming voice that traveled across the restaurant) realized there was a problem with the food, and asked us what the problem was. Embarrassed already as all of the other Valentines couples turned to see what the commotion was, we tried to downplay the situation. The server continued, eventually offering my girlfriend the other option. This would have been great except every other couple was looking at us. As the server was in the kitchen talking to the chefs about what happened, we could still hear her. Hardly touching our meals I paid the tab and we left to find dinner elsewhere. The atmosphere was nice...

My daughters and I are new to the island and decided to try Downriggers. We waited for a long time with other groups to be seated at a table. Once seated, a very nice waitress came by and brought us water (she had dark hair up in a clip). We then waited too long for our server to come by. We should have left at that point, because we were feeling ignored. Instead, we decided to give her the benefit of the doubt. That was a mistake. She took our orders with the personality of a rock (waitress with medium brown hair worn up in a ponytail). She brought our food and nothing else - she didnt ask if it was ok or check on us. The friendly waitress cleared our plates, then we waited too long for our server to bring our ticket. I was tempted to not leave a tip, which is rare for me (normally 20%). Lunch was nearly $70 for three of us - not worth the money for bad service and mediocre food. Overall, it felt as though the bad waitress had already decided we werent going to tip her, so she gave us minimal service. Or maybe she just doesnt like women? I will NOT go back there again. I would recommend that the service team at Downriggers remove this negative person from their team...or give her some training so that she comes across more friendly.

We often sail to Friday Harbor and spend a lot of time there. For the most part folks are very friendly. Ive heard over the years that the Downrigger is not known for the best service. But being on island time we were in no hurry. The first time we went we sat in the main dining room the service was so so and the food okay, nothing spectacular. The view was great and it was what it was. Later on the trip, we docked again at Friday Harbor. As the Downrigger is very close to the marina we though wed stop in at the Downrigger for a cocktail. The bar was vacant but for a small group of locals (four girls) The on duty bar tender was hanging out with the girls. The waitress pass us by and served the girls and never said a word to us. I walked up to the bar to order drinks and the bar tender smiled at me and said she be there in a minute. 20 minutes (no kidding) later she still could not break away from her friends to serve us. We quietly walked out. I asked for the manager, and he/she was not there. We left and swore never to darken the halls of that establishment again and as of this date we have not. I really hope that this was a one time occurrence.

We just had dinner at Downriggers for the first time. It was a busy Saturday night, so we were seated in the bar instead of waiting for a seat in the dining room. The service was prompt and nice, and the view was perfect from any seat in the bar. We started with the onion rings, which I had heard good things about online. They were indeed yummy! I ordered the crab cake dinner and was totally disappointed. They were really awful. I couldnt finish one, and my husband hated them as well. Being from the Northwest, you expect great crab cakes wherever you go along the coast- especially when you pay $20 for 2. These crabcakes tasted mostly of bread and onion, and the crab meat itself was brown. On the otherhand, my husband had ordered the fish and chips, and the fish (Halibut) was fantastic. The halibut was light, flaky, tasted fresh - even though it was fried in batter. I would go to Downriggers again, but I would order the Halibut, or at least ask the staff what seafood was fresh.

Kinda bummed. Not gonna lie. The restaurant is very up-to-date on their decor and presentation of the food. Id give that a 5 star. Our waitress was pretty cool, but no offers on refills (one of us who ordered beer was asked though). There were seven of us, 3 were kids. Our total bill was $255 because of a "service fee". Not a "mandatory tip charge because of a large-sized party" fee. Portions were small, and the specials of the night werent so special. Two of us ordered halibut and chips (not thinking to ask the price, because the regular fish and chips were around $15- plus its a little tacky to ask a price on something like that). $57.00 for two plates of halibut and chips. It was also one of our sons birthday. Not even a comp piece of pie. At least we werent charged for the candle. If it wasnt for the service fee, I would consider going back. When businesses get greedy, I dont support that.

Food is good. The place has a great view. Service was good. I had the fish and chips and I wish there was a little more. If I hadnt ordered the clam chowder I wouldnt have felt filled because of how little the fish were. They could add 1 more to make it worth the price. The chicken was cooked well and sandwich was good. Really good gluten free bun and cheese cake is amazing. My portion is the biggest reason for the rating. If they were large pieces of fish I wouldve gave a 5 star. But they were so small I felt cheated and had food envy immediately when I saw how much my wife had on her plate. They could add at least 1 more peice of fish id pay a buck more for that. They felt like fish sticks (size-wise) rather than tenders. The dip was bigger than the a piece of fish...but they tasted good and werent overdone the fries were great and aoili sace was good.

Disgusting food literally there were bugs inside the oysters. A centipede to be specific..... When ownership was informed she offered no apologies and in fact leaned over our table and started to directly tell us how it wasnt an issue and that there be no way they would have been able to see that. The ownership was aggressive and offered no solution and in fact put her hands on me to remove us from the restaurant to avoid other people hearing about the issue. This place should seriously look into their health codes and kitchen staff... and actually providing some level of customer service when theres an issue. Disgusted and owner should be removed forcefully, Sincerely Horrible handling of a situation.....
