My wife and I ate at Asahis last night (19 Mar 2014) and it was a pleasant experience. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere, the waitresses that served us had wonderful attitudes, and there was a nice selection on the menu at reasonable prices. We ordered a Korean seafood and vegetable pancake for an appetizer, I had jampong, and my wife ate a fish dinner. The portion sizes were about right (maybe a little large as I was stuffed when I left) and the food looked very appetizing when served. There were plenty of free refills on the diet Coke for me, but we were a little surprised that they charged $1.99 for my wifes Barley Tea. At most places weve eaten along the east coast, the hot tea is complementary. My jampong wasnt as spicy as I would have liked, so if you like it spicy tell them to turn it up a little (they can prepare it to different levels of hot). Two things detracted a little from the experience. First, my main meal arrived several minutes before my wifes, however, the family that came in after us asked that all their main meals be served together and the wait staff was happy to oblige, so if we had asked Im sure they would have brought them out together. Second, there is ample off-street parking as the restaurant is in a little mini-mall, but there is a smoke shop a couple of doors down and the folks going in and out while we were sitting in the car made me a little nervous that my car might get scratched up. There were several losing scratch and play lottery tickets on the ground next to my car when I came out that werent there when we went in, but the car was fine. As I said in the opening, overall it was a pleasant experience, but not the best we had while staying in Norfolk.

Asahi is that rare gem restaurant where you genuinely look forward to your visit. Its family owned and many might not know this but the kitchen is run by the family. Its as homely & authentic as it gets. I am part Korean myself so I know good Korean food and Asahi does it right. Its always fresh and my favorites bulgogi and the shrimp fried rice are absolutely fantastic. Also if you like eggs, try the "egg omelet" which comes still cooking in a hot bowl. Its fantastic. Anyone who is complaining about the prices can continue going to chain restaurants and being content. My only complaint is that the secret is out! EDIT: 7/21/17 Visited last night with a friend who had never been and no surprise here, he loved it as did I as usual. I ordered my 2 favs beef bulgogi (level 3 spice) and shrimp fried rice. I was reading some other reviews and saw a negative one from a Nate Smith calling the food "mediocre." Uhh I dont think he knows what good authentic Korean food is supposed to taste like. The 100+ other 5 star reviews also tell the real story.

Excellent food.!! Ive tried the bibambap at Korean restaurants closer to my house and I liked it. There was something that kept telling me to make the drive to the highest rated restaurant serving the dish in my area, even though I had to wait until 5:00pm ( rush hour traffic) and drive 20 minutes for the dish. I was extremely glad that I followed my instincts! The food is excellent! We tried three different dishes, and each one was fabulous! The service was fast! The staff was friendly and helpful! I now just plan to schedule Aashi on my calendar once a month!

Stopped in the first time based on reviews and had the tastiest Korean dinner imaginable. Its a cozy atmosphere with authentic flavors, excellent portions, and attentive warm customer service. Weve returned a couple of times since and have tried different dishes--nothing has disappointed us yet. From appetizers to side dishes every single dish has been delicious and prepared perfectly. Believe the reviews and try it out for yourself. You wont regret it!

Though we were the first ones in the restaurant, the waitress (Erin) happily greeted and seated us. The food came out very quickly and it was delicious. The side dishes can be refilled as well, though the bulgogi filled me up. Topped off with homemade cake with ice cream, the whole meal was excellent. Even though I live a city away, I will be back here again. I dont have a hangul keyboard, but thank you!

Service here is top-notch! The employees at this restaurant really strive to make the experience a good one. It is clear that they want you to return. The food is also very good. I had the stone dish "bi bim baap." It sizzled as it came out, was cooked well, and presented perfectly. The atmosphere and decor are great. It is a clean establishment and feels very cozy.

Ive lived in Korea for a couple of years, once I came back stateside I couldnt find quality Korean BBQ. Ive been living in VA for almost four years now and Im so upset that Ive never known about this restaurant until today. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. Great atmosphere and excellent customer service. Reminds me of being back in Korea. Worth more than 5 stars!!!

The atmosphere was amazing, the staff was friendly and welcoming and the food was perfect. My husband and I have both been to South Korea and we enjoyed our dinner immensely as did our kids. Best Korean food Ive had state side. We will definitely be going back, it was worth the 40 minute drive!

My experience at this restaurant was outstanding. The service was great the food was superb and the atmosphere was very fun. The meals run about $10-15 a plate/ per person. I feel like I got way more than what I paid for. I would highly recommend eating here.
