I would return if the chef, management, and most service staff, were replaced. The atmosphere and location are the only thing keeping this place open. Ive had several different menu items, each of my four times and have tasted my guests dishes as well. The flavors are not of any true culture, remotely close to Mexico. The menu is poorly executed nightly and shows no signs of improving. Having a different waiter each visit, enables me to confidently say, they were not trained. To make up for poor service or for not having several of their higher end tequilas listed, they pour heavy, often. This gives several guests the chance to get over served fast. I really enjoy when a waiter challenges my complaint, of a poorly made margarita. There are many places to eat in Mill Valley. I would recommend most of them- just not Playa.

Now, Ive eaten here a couple of times. Plus is another place worth going to in MV. Negative is the food can be pretty on/off. For example last week, I had a guacamole order that was dreadful. It must have been full of raw garlic - I was choking on the taste for a day and I even like garlic. Same thing was pretty good 2 other times. -- Thank god, theres another place to go out in marin. Great drinks, excellent crowd, firepit. Havent tried the food yet but it looks good. For mill valley, drinks are normal priced, food looks a little high.

Ecstatic theres another new restaurant in downtown Mill Valley. Beautiful space, indoor/outdoor, havent yet sampled the food but hear great things. Typical Mill Valley monied crowd. Im a long-time New York City bartender, I get there are growing pains, but tell the bartenders to look up every 5 to 7 minutes at the patrons standing at the bar. Youre losing money. Updated Nov 11, 2016 Adding a star for outstanding food, very sweet and accommodating hostess, bartenders getting faster. Turning into a MV fave.

Went to Playa for the first time this past Sunday evening. The patio was so fun! I like seafood, so we had the grilled calamari - excellent! I then had the octopus tacos and the CRUNCH from the romenesco (?) was also excellent. My husband had the beef cheeks and something with mole that was great. We loved our margaritas - the Oaxaca I believe. I am so glad this place is here with such a fun vibe and great food. PS - the lighting is really pretty.

Would have been one star, but the atmosphere was great. We stood for two and a half hours waiting for a table while the hostess made little to no effort sitting us at a table. Tables sat empty for over an hour while others had people ordering nothing and only drinking water. She had a massive power trip issue, so we ended up walking out.

OMG this place is AMAZING. Service was great, honestly some of the best tacos Ive ever had, definitely the best flan Ive ever had, and great cocktails. If youre in Mill Valley dont miss this place.
