I loved this place until yesterday. We go for lunch, we received a lunch menu, and then we sat chatted for a few moments, ordered margaritas. The waiter came back we ordered our food. After we ordered probably like 10 to 15 mins later he comes back saying its now 3, and jumbo margaritas are 6.99.... great we said we would keep that in mind. We get our food a little bit after. We ask for our bill 3x still didnt get it, finally the waiter said come up its easier to split the bill. It was 2 checks, 3 people... how hard is that? Whatever, I tell him whats on what check, he messes it up 4 times, even after he printed it out and I marked each thing I was paying for. Finally, Bill time! He charged us dinner price for everything and I told him we ordered lunch, he said he km nows but he cant do anything about it because the computer changes the price after 3... I asked him why didnt he tell us. He said he didnt because the system does that so we have to pay the bigger price... I told him I wasnt I ordered way before 3 and he should have told us and if thats the case why was our drinks still 12 each of the system is that smart? He rolls his eyes and said nothing he can do and I told him there is something he can do... he got the manager who was his brother , as in his word "do us a favor and took 6 dollars off my bill"... Unfortunately that whole experience just really wasnt okay... therefore with all the other great Mexican establishments in the area of Richmond, this one has been written off the list for the tactics of their fellow employee. I worked in restaurant and I know the tricks of the trade...servers do certain things to get quicker cash, unfortunately this one didnt care that he got caught.

Authentic Mexican fare made fresh! We had barely been seated before they brought out a basket of chips and salsa. That was a great way to start because the last time I was there I swore I would never go back because the service was so slow and all the food came out cold. Then again, it was Cinco service Mayo...Ill never go back for that, but Im really glad we gave them a second chance. My wife had the Quesadilla Veracuzano with beef and thoroughly enjoyed it. She shared a bite with me and I can see why she would order it again. I had Tacos de Carne Asada. These are beef tacos with fresh chopped onion and cilantro, and a sauce. It came with a side of rice and refried beans. All in all, it was good, but not great. The sauce was fairly bland. However, the the meat was delicious and the three tacos were filling. I dont think I would reorder this item, it I definitely want to try some of their others. For $10-14, its hard to beat. Our server was pleasant but not visible except when bringing out our order. All the same, we were there for the food, not necessarily the service. I can definitely recommend The Patron. Just dont go when its known to be busy.

I was surprised one evening to find Nacho Mamas gone from its Mechanicsville location. Instead of slinking off to La Casita, I tried this place without expecting too much given the track record with newer restaurants around here. With very few exceptions, Mexican restaurants in this area have been hit or miss. However, in a lot of ways, The Patron is BETTER than its predecessor. For one thing, Nacho Mamas had the vibe more of its flagship location in Carytown than, say, Cancún. The wait staff consisted of native Mexicans and the background music was Mexican. Favorite Dish: I had the pork carnitas with rice, refried beans, and flour tortillas. They were good enough to give me pico de gallo on the side even though it wasnt included. Most noticeable of all, the portion sizes were big enough to make me consider reaching for the takeaway box. Nine times on ten, restaurant changes around here go from a Cadillac to mule. This time, it went from a Cadillac to a Rolls-Royce.

I like real pasteurized cheese, not processed cheese. So when I ate at two, nearby Mexican-food places in Mechanicsville, I was so very disappointed to taste not only processed cheese but margarine as well. So I called The Patron restaurant before I made the trip over there to check to see what type of cheese they used, and one of their choices of REAL cheeses was queso fresco! Real cheese and real Mexican cheese to boot! From the peach margarita, to the fresh-made chips, to the outrageously-well-flavored pulled pork, to the out-of-this-world, fresh-made guacamole, The Patron really blows all the other so-called "Mexican" restaurants out of the water. And oh, yes, the service was excellent as well. :)

My spouse and I just moved to VA from Atlanta, and happened to find The Patron. Weve never had better food, service, or friendly people serve us at a Mexican restaurant. The food speaks for itself and there are no words to describe how wonderful it is. The people who work and run this place are so unbelievably kind, its so rare to find a place that makes you feel like home once you walk in. This restaurant has made us feel right at home, even though were hundreds of miles away from Atlanta. The best restaurant on the east coast, hands down!

For some reason this The Patron is more expensive than The Patron on Airport Drive and not as good either. I ordered tacos de carne asada and they were slightly cold and the meat was rubbery. The guacamole was not made in front of me and tasted sweet but the chips and salsa were great though. For the cost and the cold food I say spend the extra 20 minutes and go to the one on Airport and save some money too!

Much different than the place it replaced. Food is much improved. The service, however, sucks. Our waitress never once came to refill drinks after she dropped off the food. After we finished eating, she walked by at least 5 times and never said a word or made eye contact. After 25 minutes, we actually went across the restaurant to ask her to get our bill.

Fast - because its all prepared in the back and microwaved. Thats the only way I could have been served my lunch in 3 minutes. Perfectly adequate Mexican food, nothing special. The decor is simple but pleasant. Prices were steep for a Mexican lunch -- most lunch specials were $7 to 9$, and they charged $2.50 for an iced tea.

Loved my Cancun salad! They replaced the lettuce with spinach for me and no pico. My favorite mexican place in this area by far. They always accommodate. And they are pet friendly! Always bringing our doggie water outside and wanting to pet him. Great waitress. Food is always good. 5 stars!

This is the best Mexican food I have ever had. The food is absolutely amazing with generous portions. The margaritas are amazing, and so is the staff. I always get wonderful service here, and theyre always quick to refill the chips and salsa. The white sauce is my absolute favorite!

Its actually pretty cozy in this place . Me and my wife went out for drinks , decided to try this place and had a nice time . There were families as well as those who sat at the bar solo . The food was really good and the service was great . I will return
