I had a disappointing experience with Foodie but thought Id give this one a try only to be extremely disappointed again. I went with my husband and 2 friends. We ordered the mini-biscuits for an appetizer - now with 4 people, you would think we would get 4 biscuits but we only got 3 and not nearly enough apple butter to all of us to get a decent amount - how about a little butter in addition to the apple butter? . I ordered the oven-roasted turkey sandwich - VERY dry with almost no ailoli sauce to help counteract the dryness. One of my friends ordered the bacon-cheddar biscuit - again VERY dry - a bit of gravy on the side would have helped! And no seasoning - at least some salt. Im afraid we will not be back again - our tab for 4 people for lunch was over $70!! - A bit much for lunch dont you think?

My friends and I were incredibly excited to try Mercantile after being big fans of Foode. We were told wed have to wait 20-30 minutes. After waiting over an hour, we were finally seated. The Bloody Mary was weak and over seasoned, the food took ages, and everything on the plate was sub-standard. My "omelet" was the smallest I had ever been served, and it had about 3 pieces of zucchini in it. My side of fruit was like 5 thin slices of apple and pear. I had such high hopes and was incredibly let down. I honestly could have thrown together a breakfast plate 10 times as good and in a fraction of the time if I had just stayed home. Also, my friend ordered sausage and it came out partially uncased and looking like a pile of doo... I definitely wont be returning. I hope others have a better experience.

I was super excited to try this place bc Id heard great things about it. Also, its adorable! Love the decor and the ambience. Its a very pleasant place to sit....I just didnt expect to sit so long. We waited a very long time for our food, at least half an hour if not 40 mins, and service was scarce. It was a busy Saturday afternoon so I would have forgiven that if the food had been stellar. It wasnt. I ordered "roasted" chicken with polenta. Instead, I got a very dry, clearly quick-oven-baked boneless chicken breast w a rubbery slice of polenta. Honestly, I could have made a much better chicken breast at home, and not paid $12 for it. However, the tomato sauce on top was quite good, and I saw other people clearly enjoying their food, so I might give Mercantile another try at some point.

Me and my friend went to Mercantile on July 2nd 2017. We ordered steak and eggs, with our steak being medium well with gravy on the side. The steaks were bloody and gravy was on the steak and eggs. The waitress insisted on sending back, but when returned the steaks were well done. We were happy that the manager took care of the food on our bill; but the next day my friend and I felt gassy and queasy. My friend ended up throwing up. We believe it may have been the food. We love the bar though, but likely will not return to order food. The chef/cook needs to be retrained. Great ambiance in the restaurant.

Went there for breakfast, because of the high rating. Do not be fooled. The food was overprice, okay no problem, I am paying for the experience as well. However, for the price , the food should taste good. The coffee was nasty trucker coffee. The "mini butter biscuits" were dry and flavorless. I had one of the specials, That came with "ice coffee", well I already had coffee, I wanted something else, no substitutions. The food was gross. The place has poor air circulation, it felt very stuffy. Wish I could give it negative 5 stars. I hope this helps some one avoid this place.

Small friendly restaurant that attempts to be trendy but falls short. Ordered a range of items as this was our first time. Breakfast is acceptable but my 17 year old daughter is a better baker. Pound cake should be baked with buttery goodness, not here. Not buttery, not dense and over all lacks flavor. The cinnamon bun is dense and dry. The biscuits lack any southern finesse and should be avoided. Not a vegan place and real breakfast needs real bacon. Turkey sausage and bacon is not a real food group. Avoid peak hours as this restaurant has very limited seating.

This was a unique little restraunt, with a healthy menu at reasonable prices; although compared to a normal restraunt they seem high. The drip coffee was excellent and the pimento /jalapeño croissant I had was excellent. Other members in my pay had the steak tacos and loved them, but others had less to say about the bacon, eggs and bisquits; they may have been better if they had been hot when delivered. All and all a nice place to done if you want to try something new; just be prepared to wait for seating.

Mercantile is a welcome addition to the breakfast and lunch landscape of the Fredericksburg area. Mercantile provides an upscale quality option for breakfast in a relaxing atmosphere. The small dining room fills up quickly so arrive early or expect a wait. Read the menu and try to decide, the choices are many and the food is all great. The servings are generous. Be realistic, an appetizer with three mini biscuits is nice for one or two people, if your party is larger order a second.

The dishes are innovative and fresh with so many wonderful flavors, its like an orchestra on your palate! We had the cheddar black bean omelet and bacon cheddar biscuit which are our new favorites. Try a Bloody Mary with your meal. Its the best Ive ever had! The pour over coffee does justice to the beans; smooth. The service from the polite staff is warm, welcoming and fun! This establishment appeals to all.

Their food is the best Ive had in town, after moving to this area in April. The staff are polite and friendly! My mom and I ate brunch there. We each had the pork chop on a pancake. The pancake was the texture of a eggy crepe. Lovely! The chop was mouth watering and the best maple syrup to add on top. Served in a small black skillet! Id love to have this meal again!

Great drink selection! Food options are a little hodgepodge, and I found myself debating what to select for brunch. Delicious, as expected, though I wish they had more non-egg options. Very busy during rush, but quite cozy when slow. The chairs at the bar are a little low, and short-me felt almost 7-years-old again, sitting at the big peoples table.

Just moved to Fredericksburg and this was the first place that popped up for Sunday Brunch and it did not disappoint. Fast, courteous and friendly service. The food was delicious - from the lemon poppy seed muffin to the crispy bacon and homemade jelly, absolutely wonderful; will definitely be coming back!

Brunch was amazing and Debby was a pleasure. She was courteous and helpful which made the brunch experience all that more enjoyable. She recommended the Mercantile Margarita and I have to say its one of the best Ive ever had. I thoroughly enjoyed the chorizo hash which I would also recommend. I will be back!
