I had seen the ad in the Cville magazine for this bakery and was very interested in purchasing a "Princess Cake" which I hear ABC is famous for. Last week, I called twice and both times the voice on the other end answered "Hello?" I said I was calling to try and reach Albemarle Baking Company. The voice replied "Nope!" I confirmed with the person I had reached that the number I had called matched the number I was calling AND that it matched the number in their ad and on their website. I was then hung up on. I called again today and got the same response. I started to explain that I wanted to order a cake, but was hung up on. I had a friend call the same number from her cell phone and low and behold, she reached the SAME PERSON. But, this time, the phone was answered "Albemarle Baking Company." You see, I was calling from my office and I suspect they saw the name on caller ID. Perhaps they thought I was trying to do business? Well, in this case, I was trying to order a cake...FOR PERSONAL USE. Albemarle Baking Company, how dare you be so rude? You cannot run a business by pretending you are not who you say you are, because you suspect the caller has other reasons for calling you. That is bad business and very sketchy to say the least. YOU HAVE LOST A POTENTIAL CUSTOMER. Shame on you. I will NEVER call you again and I will make sure to tell all of my friends not to buy from you, either. There are plenty of other bakeries in town and I will buy from them....never from you. Very disappointed.

Albemarle Baking Company is a great bakery. Weve routinely been buying bread and pastries from ABC since we moved to Charlottesville this past summer. Their bread has completely replaced our grocery store loaf purchases (Pepperidge Farm, Arnold, etc). Theyll slice it for you behind the counter when you buy it. It easily keeps for a week (assuming you dont eat it before then). Its slightly more expensive than the bulk produced variety but way better. Their pastries are also delicious. Ive probably tried a third of what they have to offer at this point. Their Morning Buns are by far my favorite (and they have a brioche stick with custard and chocolate chips that they only make on Saturday which is also a favorite). If you come in at the end of the day (I think after 5) all of their goodies are heavily discounted.

I love the Baking Companys food, in particular the pecan sticky buns. Theyre a great reason to get out of bed on Saturday morning! I also have friends whove moved away from Cville but regularly request cakes from ABC when I visit them. Unfortunately the Saturday morning staff are a bit short on customer service skills. I grew up working in a family business and it irks me that someone taking my money does NOT say "please" and "thank you," and moves with a pace that can only be described as desultory. Perhaps Im just an old crank, but some days I dont go because I know Ill have this poor service.

It is the best bakery in Charlottesville as far as quality. I agree with other reviewers that the staff is often snotty and wound so tight you could sting a tennis racquet with them. But artists are often self-absorbed and pass that pretentious demeanor on to staff. And their prices are inline with their quality, high. But this is true fine art baking. Nowhere within driving distance produces finer baked goods overall than ABC. I do pick up individual items at other bakeries but always look forward to anything I pick up at ABC J

Nice, clean, bakery. Friendly saleswoman never got upher name though. The pecan sticky buns were great. If you come close to closing time then you get a discount on the pastries. Theyre a little old but the taste is not bad when you heat it up in the microwave. Good deal. French Macaroons were a little bit too doughy, but the taste wasnt unsatisfactory. I got the chocolate,raspberry, and vanilla. Youll be better off buying them separate instead of the box because its quite pricey.

Got our Wedding Cake here. Turned out wonderful and we were complimented, some guests stated it was the best wedding cake they ever had. Its a small store, it has some drawbacks, like not having the same stuff all the time; but I see that as the store trying to stick to seasonal and available ingredients and the specialties of the particular baker, not because they are purposefully not wanting to make a particular item. Its a very, very good bakery.

Amazing little bakery. I had a very special cake made with them and they were patient with me when trying to figure out what kind of cake it was going to be. The response time was quick on emails. The cake was beautiful, well put together, and best of all delicious! Price was also very reasonable for the product. I would definitely recommend Albemarle Baking Co.

We had Albermarle Baking Co. make our wedding cake and it was amazing! They were wonderful to work with and were able to make my vision a reality. The entire wedding complimented us all night long on our cake, some slices vanilla and some slices chocolate with ganache/praline for a bit of crunch! We recommend them highly!

Everything Ive tried from ABC has been lovely. Their rotating bread schedule includes an excellent ciabatta and olive thyme, and their pastries are all visually appealing and delicious (my favorites are the cream puffs). Would also recommend the Princess Cake (can order by the whole or the slice).

Not only are their breads fabulous, but their Princess Cake is phenomenal. My family never wants anything else for special occasions. Theyll even customize it for you, putting on polka dots or other simple designs instead of roses on top. Never had anything that wasnt spectacular from ABC.

Everything I have had from ABC has been wonderful. We routinely purchase their tarts and mini cakes for birthday parties so we have a variety to choose from. It has become a custom for us. We enjoy their breads from the store, and from all of the other restaurants in town that serve them.

Pastries and bread are delicious. Cookies are great, too, but they do not keep an adequate supply. The staff is rude and sometimes the reason I choose to go w/out a baked goody. The owner should be ashamed of his/her staffs attitude towards customers.

I have never been disappointed at Albemarle Baking Co. Their bread and treats are so good! Unfortunately, it is near my house so I am often tempted to stop in for a treat. They might make me fat, but at least Ill be happy!

The breads, the pastries, the cakes are all amazing. This is my favorite bakery in Charlottesville and a wonderful place to stop after a bike ride to refuel. Pro-tip grab a few of the tortes for your next dinner party.

The wedding cake was not as expected. I think they used Fondant instead of their icing for the Princess Wedding Cake. Dont get you wedding cake here.
