I am usually not one to write reviews but after having my daughters eight year old birthday celebration at Otani tonight I felt compelled to write. When we arrived the staff of Otani greeted us at the door and although we werent the only large party in the restaurant they made us feel like we were their highest priority. The service was amazing, every need/request was accommodated but more than that they seemed to have fun and really enjoy the fact that we were at their restaurant. The food was excellent and the chef put on a wonderful show for our group. The girls commented that it was the best party EVER. We did a similar party for my older daughter last year at a Japanese steakhouse in Fair Lakes and after a dismal experience where our table was neglected I chose Otani for my other daughters party. I was NOT disappointed. They truly rolled out the red carpet for us and I cant thank them enough for helping to make my daughters birthday a memorable experience

Great tepanyaki spot! Most recently we used a Groupon that had been burning a hole in our pocket, and it was a terrific deal. We had one order of steak and one of teriyaki chicken. It included salad, soup, and a dessert of rainbow sherbet. The fried rice costs a couple bucks extra, but is well worth it. If youre in the mood for something different in a good way, Otani is a very solid choice! its all about consistency ... Otani is a casual neighborhood restaurant where you sit at an Hibachi-style table, eat tasty Japanese food, enjoy an entertaining chef and friendly service. The dinner entrees are very reasonably priced. My favorite entrée Teriyaki chicken comes with soup, a house salad, lo mein, fried rice and sherbet -- all for only $17. Ive eaten at Otani for dinner as a duo and with a group of friends. The food and service are always consistently good. Its also a fun place to go for your birthday.

I was there for fathers day with my friends and her kids at this perticular location Food was great tho the portion size was not big enough for $38 plate, the kids meal were espensive. I had a pink mojito which was the best mojito i have ever had but yet gave it to me in a medium size shot glass. Then we were rushed out because other people who didnt have reservations were waiting. I didnt get to get my boxed food cause the waiter neer cam back but yet we were being rushed out o our table. And this perticular place is way to small. U r so crammed inside therethe place is hot when there are several tables having their food at the same time it becomes a sauna all of a sudden. They to move this restsurant to a bigger spot to accomodate the large croud that they receive on the daily.

I went to the otanis in Chantilly last night to celebrate my 21st bday. The waitress could not understand us and we could not understand her. The cook messed up on 2 other orders and my medium rare steak was given to me almost well done. No one wanted mushroom aside from myself and another man... he was given all of them I got none. Finally our checks came out of the 4 checks at the table only one was correct. My friend who was paying for my dinner was charger 70 something dollars because they forgot to subtract our coupon also she was charged $3 for a birthday... all I got was a balloon. It took a good 10 min to get the $3 back over all food portions are way to small for what you pay and the service just sucked. I will stick with sakuras from now on!!

My girlfriend and I go to Otani monthly and the service is usually spectacular. We went tonight and it was atrocious. The portions were ¼ of what they normally are and we had to ask for more to make up for it. There is usually some entertainment factor but not this time. No train, catching the food in mouth or even fake squirt the sauce. It seemed as if the chef was a last minute fill with less cooking skills than my cat. The food was undercooked and no seasoning was used along with the chef being slow. They tried to make up for it with a $20 discount. Big woop the bill was still overpriced for the service. I have been a fairly regular customer of this Otani for around 15 years. I dont think I will be returning any time soon.

Purchased a Groupon to try the restaurant. Glad we got a discount, because it was not worth it, even with the coupon. The chef gave my friend four or five shrimp, other people at the table got double to triple that amount. After she mentioned something, he gave her two more. The soup should have been a good indicator, when it arrived to the table it had one noodle floating in the soup. No yum yum sauce, instead a horseradish sauce. The vegetables were the last thing we received, rice nothing special. I ordered scallops, that was also shorted by half, then later received the remainder. Not a good experience, wont be back.

oyfriend and I go to Otani frequently. The last time was less than a month ago and the service is usually spectacular. We went tonight and it was atrocious. The portions were ¼ of what they normally are and we had to ask for more to make up for it. There is also usually some entertainment factor and there was zero commu ication between the chef and the customer. The food was undercooked and the chef was slow. They did however make up for it with a $20 discount. Big woop the bill was still overpriced for the service. I have been a fairly regular customer of this Otani for around 15 years. We showed up for my birthday at 9:08 p.m. website says that theyre open until 9:30 so we get in there they tell us that their kitchen is already closed I must say tonight was the rudest and most disrespectful experience I have ever had at this place and I told them we will never ever go back there we have been a long-time customer for almost 10 years we will not return to the Chantilly location or the Sterling I recommend you go somewhere else they have false advertisement and they dont love no respect their customers

Worst hibachi experience! We took my daughter for her birthday, but even the cook was a disappointment. The green tea was actually water w/ a peanut oil residue. The soup was a very watery broth w/ one mushroom shaving. The fried rice had one egg but no vegetables - odd. Even the kids soda was flat as I guess the CO2 was empty. Anyway, the biggest let down was the lack-luster mumbling chef who we thought would be a fun fire-making, food-throwing addition to dinner.

Went out for dinner with my family tonight, decided to give otani a shot. Overpriced food, small portioned. Hibachi chef overcooked mostly everything, food tasted burnt. Soup had one piece of mushroom shaving in it. Thought that was funny. Service was decent, EMPLOYEES were friendly. CHEF Ended the dinner WITH "THROWING FOOD AT CUSTOMERS" SURPRISINGLY PEOPLE THOUGHT IT WAS FUNNY. SEEMS RUDE.. ITS LIKE PLAYING FETCH WITH A DOG LOL!

The service was terrible. The waitress did not honor my groupon and insisted that i was in a party of four people, and the groupon could not be used. Ive used groupon several times at other establishments without any problems. I feel i was treated this way because of my race. I was very insulted.
