As someone who has come to Big Buns time and time again (perks of living across the street), it never fails to impress us. Havent had a bad night there yet. Staff is always friendly and helpful no matter how busy it seems to be. Theyll offer up suggestions at the counter and help fetch you any extra sauces and napkins you may need when they bring out your food. Burgers are a good size and filling. We havent had a signature burger yet that we didnt like and definitely explore building our own if were having certain cravings. The burgers of the month are always great too *cough*if you brought back the Horseradish burger from March I wouldnt be complaining*cough*. Portions on fries are good, a regular size is more than enough for two people if youre having a burger too. And definitely try the chipotle pesto, I literally put it on everything from the burgers to the fries. Milkshakes are bomb, especially the boozy, and the beer selection (both draft and bottle/can) is great as well. Booze isnt overpriced, pretty fair considering the area in my opinion. They also have a good selection of teas/lemonades/fair trade sodas. We bring friends from out of town here every time someone comes to visit and always get rave reviews. Great place to just sit back and relax with a brew and a burger, honestly couldnt recommend it enough.

Went there 2 June to try it out for the first time. There were a few people in front of me in line, I found the order taking process a little slow. I ordered the Anniversary Burger, medium well and an order of fries. It took 20 minutes for the server to bring the food out. The complete burger was saturated in grease, even the top of the bun. When I picked it up, my thumbs went through the bottom of the bun. The bottom of the bun was literally soaked through with grease. I was turned off by this, but still willing to make the best of it, I was starving so whatever... I took a bite and found the burger was horribly under-cooked, medium rare at most. I was hungry and perhaps a bit grumpy so I left it in a heap on the plate it was served on and left. I should have just returned the meal and gotten my $18 back but I didnt have the time and I didnt want to be rude to anyone. The place seems to be busy and well reviewed so I feel I should give it another shot sometime, but even if the burger was fully cooked I think that amount of grease might have killed me.

I have been to Rays Hell Burger, but I think I am going to give the edge for greatest DC metro area burger to Big Buns. The place is great. It has a chipotle-style ordering system and a chipotle-style interior, except green is the dominant color instead of red. The best part about Big Buns is the toppings. Bean and Mango salsa, while heavy on the beans and light on the mango, is great. You can get grilled pineapple, avocado, sprouts, mushrooms, and all of the classics, fresh jalapenos, even egg (which they call the incredible egg). I dont think Rays Hell Burger has quite the selection of toppings. Also, if youre vegetarian you can get a portobello burger, or a mahi mahi burger. If chicken is your thing you can do that, too. You can even get it aaaall tossed up in a bowl. I have never had a bad meal here. Everything is very fresh and delicious. The meat is high quality. Also, the owners are really nice and keep me coming back. They give me free things to try and free drinks if my food takes a little longer than usual.

Big Buns is a definite contender for the best burger in DMV. Now that Rays Hellburger has closed, they are absolutely the undisputed champs of Arlington. They do ultra customizable, cooked when you order them burgers with a dizzying array of toppings. If beef isnt your thing they also do turkey and veggie patties or a grilled chicken breast. If you get cashier ordering stage fright, you can pick from an action packed lineup of curated burgers as well. Orders can be rounded out with fries (standard, sweet potato, or Cajun), a milkshake, a beer, or Maine sodas on fountain. My last visit, I got their May monthly special: "The Mexican Street Burger." The beef was a perfect medium rare and the combination of taco seasoning on the beef, queso Blanco, crushed Fritos, and avacado crema coleslaw blurred the line between taco and burger in just the right way. The Mexican chocolate shake was creamy cinnamon goodness, and the Cajun fries were cooked perfectly. If you find yourself in Ballston, you will like Big Buns and cannot lie.

Ive visited here twice already and I honestly cant figure out what all the hype is about. Out of all types of foods I gotta say my burger standards may be the highest, so maybe Im just being overly critical...but on both of my visits, the burgers I ordered were just disappointing, maybe because my expectations were built up too much. The burgers tasted good, but theres something missing to give it that extra push to great. Maybe its because they overcook mine every time I ask for rare or med rare. Maybe I dont think their cheese and other add ons compliment the burger that well. Maybe their buns are too small (they actually are despite their name). Whatever it is, its going to keep me from putting them with my top burger choices...

I was a little underwhelmed by Big Buns burger. Its a good no frills burger. Today, I tried the Mahi Mahi on a bowl of lettuce. The Mahi Mahi was grilled perfectly with a little bit of blackened spices. It was great, especially paired with their sweat pepper vinaigrette dressing. You can add other veggies to the bowl youd expect on a burger. I added hot peppers and tomatoes. In addition to their great Mahi Mahi, I really enjoy their sweet potato fries. Ive considered just getting the sweet potato fries without a sandwich or salad. Another great aspect of Big Buns is they are environmentally aware. Their plastic cups for fountain drinks are actually made out of soy, so theyre biodegradable. Good food and good for the environment.

Ok so i saw some negative comments/reviews on here. People calm down with all the attitude about service. This is a burger joint not an upscale restaurant... just chill for a second. The cashier was really helpful on explaining how things work. I must say they look like young kids and my complement for being good at what u do at young age. Now the burgers .... I had the gorgeous gorge with added fried egg. It was probably the best burger i have ever had. Seriously... the flavor the taste the portion... it was all perfect. Cant ask for a better burger under 20 bucks. If youre in the area and in the mood for burgers, stop reading this and just go there. Youre welcome!

I ordered pickup online and got there early. It seemed to be a slow day so my food was also ready early :-D. I watched a bit of tv while I waited (one of the TVs was in desperate need of repair) and looked. I ordered my food as a salad and was slightly dissappointed that the chicken breast was whole and so was the bacon. I took a while to chop it all up, but once I tasted it, it was all better. The salad and sweet potato fries were aboslutely delicious. The veggies were fresh and the jalapenos were on fire!! Next time Ill try my meal as a burger so I wont have to work so hard.
