NOT GLUTEN FREE Even if they say they can do it. Can and will are two different things. On the evening of April 6, 2012, my wife and I had dinner at the Del Ray location. I explained to the waiter that I was gluten free and could not tolerate gluten at all (celiac). He explained to me that they could grill the corn tortillas on a separate cooking surface from the flour tortillas, that I should avoid the chips because they were fried in contaminated oil and that gluten free wouldnt be a problem. I went through my order one taco at a time saying that I wanted it gluten free after each. One lobster, one duck, one fish, each gluten free. He acknowledged and went off. When the food came, the fish taco was deep fried and battered but I didnt find this out until it was too late. The waiters response was he thought it would be "okay because I asked for it." Wow, just simply wow. Then to make it worse, he brought the check and the offending taco was still on it. He brought a replacement check after we said something but it shouldn’t have been that way. So if you have Celiac or are just gluten free for some other reason, eat elsewhere. I recommend Cheesetique across the street, Del Ray Pizza down the street or The Happy Tart also across the street. The latter is not a restaurant but rather a complete gluten free bakery. You can make do on fine gluten free pastry; I know youre good for it.

This review is for a catering order I placed a week ago. I ordered fajitas, taquitos, and margarita mix from Taqueria el Poblano for a party of 20-30 people. Everyone enjoyed the spread and asked where it came from! Food was great, but I must highlight the customer service because it was top-notch. Before I placed my order, I had several questions about what was included or available. Jeff (manager/owner) was very responsive and helpful. E.g. Are chafer stands and fuel included? The answer was no, but Jeff was able to tell me how many I needed based on my order. Even after I thought I was done asking questions, I was able to get very speed advice by making a call to the restaurant. E.g. I did not know how much tequila to buy for the mix. I called the restaurant and the woman who answered had me on the right track in less than 5 minutes. She told me the exact restaurant ratios to use in two ways- large batch and single serving. She even took an extra moment to recommend a good bottle of tequila for margaritas that wasnt going to break the bank (Lunazul Blanco). At time of pickup, Jeff personally helped load the food into my car. I cannot be more thankful for the help. Everything worked out splendidly. If you have a party to cater and you want to support a local business, consider Taqueria el Poblano!

Whenever I stop to eat at Taqueria el Poblano, I usually get the LA-style crispy tacos ($3.95 each), either adobo-seasoned pork or Chile-braised shredded beef. I also like the Baja fish taco, which is beer-battered and fried Mahi-Mahi. I also like their tostada ($12.95), which are two crispy tortillas topped with beans, cheese, guacamole, pico de gallo, and your choice of chicken, beef, pork, or veggie. Last time I came here, I ordered the tostada and a crispy taco and my server was really considerate and said that since the tostada usually comes with two tortillas, hed ask the kitchen to give me just one so I can eat my taco too. Food comes out very quickly. Service is quick and friendly too. Great place for adults and families alike. They have a small outdoor patio. Cell phone service sucks inside, but Im too busy chowing down my tacos to notice.

This place had TERRIBLE food. I love authentic Mexican food, I am Mexican after all. I also know that its hard to find and I do think that some Tex-Mex places do a good job at their own cuisine. I was excited to see the tacos al pastor on the menu and when I got it I took one bite and couldnt eat the rest. Pastor is supposed marinanted in the sauce, a bit spicy-pineapply, served piping hot. The meat AND tortillas were COLD and the sauce looked like they squeezed it out of a bottle like they do at a deli. There really isnt an excuse for that. I was horrified. I know that good Mexican food is hard to come by and you take what you can get but this was just plain disgusting. I would have rather eaten at Taco Bell. I probably will next time.

Delicious Mexican-Peruvian food. The only thing I disliked is there have 0 options for somebody trying to avoid corn hah. I know that sounds funny, but some of us dont want that! Some of us just want fajitas. BRING SOME FAJITAS TO THE MENU! Overall, though, I got a stuffed poblano which wasnt overly battered when fried, and i also got some carnitas chunks. The lady friend got some tacos and we both rated the food 5/5. We just agreed that the menu could have been a bit more diverse on the selections, altho the specials seemed to work if you wanted different...but again, always with corn stuff (tortillas etc). staff 5/5, food 5/5, menu 3/5, environment 5/5..

This place is SPOT ON!!! Always a crows, and for good reason. Service with a SMILE!!! The salsa they put in front of you is fresh, and you can see it - even before you taste it. Then, they make a fresh-squeezed lime juice and give you your own liquid sugar to sweeten to taste. There are several homemade sauces on the table and then when they bring out the main dishes - BING!!! Oh baby. They know what theyre doing here. The refried beans dont have much salt at all and no added fat. The rice is light and fresh and the fresh guac is excellent. I could go on and on. Just go for yourself.

The food is NOT authentic and is not true to menu- breakfast tacos are flour not corn tortillas and the potato and "chorizo" is potato and spam from a can- the margarita is good since it has more lime than tequila- Ans there isnt even Spanish staff or music playing here--a complete waste- I had two dishes replaced and both were something you would see on one of chef Ramseys horrible restaurant shows both in presentation and taste after one bite of each I SPAT IT OUT- havent had such a horrible experience in years do not go here its definitely not Spanish and you will not be satisfied .

Too pricey and absolutely not authentic! We were looking forward to eating here for a long time. We heard great things about it and really didnt expect to dislike it; but thats exactly what happened. If youre looking for great Mexican food in the DC area, this isnt the place. However, the service was excellent and the food was passable. If you dont know the difference, youll probably like it. P. S. If, youre just looking for a good taco, District Taco is the best (and really the only) option in the greater DC area. Also, now that there is one in Old Town, you have no excuse.

Very disappointed. Ridiculously expensive for what they are serving. Nothing was awful but nothing was very good either. Perhaps we set our hopes too high expecting a legitimate taqueria. Dinner for 2 adults and 3 kids at a taqueria should not cost $60+. We could have gone to a much nicer restaurant for that. If you think authentic LA style or authentic Mexican food means Mexican themed food by white people for white people then this is the place for you. If you regularly eat anywhere where you need to speak Spanish to order then you should probably look elsewhere.
