The first time I came here everything was great. I think its probably because their GM was there. I was so happy that I brought one of my co worker. The service was so different. The staff member would talk trash about you in spanish if you change your order before they start preparing your meal. The store manager (spanish lady) got an attitude and annoyed with me when I told her that its not nice for your staff to talk trash about their customers just because they want to change their order. She said you cant stop someone from speaking their language. I was like they can speak their language, but if they are talking trash about customers and think they dont understand then what is your excuse now? Then she starts yelling at her employees all loudly in front of everyone. Horrible manager/ leader. Would never come to this cafe rio again.

Healthier than chipotle and tasty (Chipotle uses too much sodium). This place screams Mexican culture maybe even a tad too much - only bc I had a bit of trouble communicating with the workers. But the ambience is excellent. Seats are colorful, music is great, and decor is superb. I got two shrimp tacos on flour with beans and rice. The tortillas were fresh and tasty. Would have preferred corn, but the corn were too small. They have a shelf full of different salsas although I would have preferred fresh salsa. If I could combine their product with Chipotles guac then Id give it 5 stars

The Barbacoa burrito is good. However, they are often unable to get orders right, especially if you just want a regular burrito. And if they get a call-in order in the middle of you and your boyfriend ordering together (and paying together), they will make 10 call-in meals (for multiple call in orders) in the middle of serving you and your boyfriend, which is absurd. At least complete our full order of 2 items so that half the food doesnt get cold while I wait for them to get to his order. That is just bad business practice.

We love Cafe Rio and have always had great experiences coming here! However I must admit that as a chain it can be spotty from place to place (the one in Chantilly needs some customer service help), but the Arlington location has always treated us well. Lots of vegetarian options as well. I only hope that with the push for online ordering and the installation of new seating they dont get even closer to the Chipotle model of getting you in and out as quickly as possible.

I was a regular customer until I finally got tired of Cafe Rio running out of grilled chicken every other time I went there. Half the time I went there they were out of grilled chicken and told me it would be another 10 minutes before it was done cooking. I even spoke with the general manager about this which made NO difference since she was the person on working behind the counter most of the time. Very incompetent management at this location. NOT RECOMMENDED.

My familys new favorite Mexican Restaurant. Well never forget Celias in Menlo Park, but now that were in Virginia, we needed to find something - and we were pleasantly surprised at the quality and friendly service at this chain restaurant, located in-between Safeway and Target in Falls Church / 7 Corners. I highly recommend the Tortilla soup - last time we ordered 4 of them!

Going downhill... Food is still good but they focus too much on online orders and the line for in person orders now moves very slowly. Also, they replaced the old quaint, homey seating with bright white rows of tables designed to be less personal and to rush you out. That atmosphere of being in a nice family restaurant at take out pricing was the huge selling point.

It is our go to place. If you have never been here before try their pork barbacoa salad. It is incredible. Even if you think you arent a salad person, you will love it. Of course, get their creamy cilantro dressing. The lines can be long, and the servers sometimes are hard to hear because of noise, and Spanish accents, but a little inconvenience is worth the taste.

Dont get me wrong, the food isnt terrible, its just poorly run. Almost all of the 10 times Ive been in there, they were out of something that I wanted to order. Either its the beef or the chicken or something. It never fails. There are better Mexican options in this neighborhood that stock their inventory and monitor their line.

Tortillas are very soft and fresh tasting which is great but is not good for meal construction. The Burrito and quesadillas made with the tortilla falls apart very quickly. Sweet pork is way too sweet. Tomatillo salsa is nice. Sour cream is flavorless. Overall a good quick bite but a few areas could use improvement.

Cafe Río offers a great selection of tex-mex style dishes with authentic flavor and beautiful interior decoration. Think Chipotle but with the food bigger, better, and with more options!! The place is always clean and well stocked. I wish I had one closer to home to go more often, I love this place!

The service at the Falls Church Store has gone way down. Expect to wait at least 15 min. in line at lunch time. If they run out of an item, they will not inform you until you get to the front of the line and will not substitute for free. The management is not friendly, poor customer service!

Had the Owners chicken burrito. The shredded chicken, rice and black beans were delicious. The flour tortilla not really a big fan of since it was a little soggy. The Horchata rice grain drink and the Mint Limeade are the best soft drinks IMO. Overall a great inexpensive place to eat.

Excellent Pork salad! I have been going to this restaurant for years, at the UT locations that are always packed. I like it with the shredded lettuce, black beans and the house dressing. I could drink their dressing its so great. And the horchata is amazing too, with free refills!

Great location and cool employees. The food is great but they nickle and dime you for everything you want extra. Additional cheese was $1.00 along with other toppings. For the price, it should come with anything you want like Chipotle/Baja Fresh.

Best Tex mex in the area. We loved Cafe Rio in Utah, where its based and were so happy to see it come to the East Coast. Its definitely our date night dinner spot. Their tortillas are to die for. Everything is made in store, that day.

Bad customer service! Tables were not cleaned off, and it takes at least ten minutes of waiting in line to get your food!! My food got cold by the time I paid and sat down to eat. VERY salty. I do NOT recommend this place.

This place will make you forget about Chipotle. Everything is fresh, tasty and reasonably priced. Its amazing that they have this place in the DMV because for a while it only existed on the West Coast.
