Its supposed to be more on the "high-end" side of restaurants. Definitely a solid place to go if youre not too picky, but if youre looking for an amazing meal, this place is a bit of a let down. The meatballs were decent, but definitely not cooked properly–in the sense that they were a bit dry and rubbery. The chowder lacked flavor, but was alright with some salt, which means the chef isnt quite an expert at making chowder, but he came close. The bruschetta, which all the waiters mispronounced, was very disappointing–the prime rib was a bit dry, and there was nothing else on it, so it was like dry shredded meat on a slice of bread, rather than actual bruschetta. The seafood casserole was lacking in flavor and not even close to being worth the $29 price. Id be willing to pay about half the amount for the quality. If youre looking for a great meal, this is not the place. The atmosphere is nice, the servers are friendly and fast, but the chef is very disappointing. I do not really want to return to this place, as there are far superior restaurants in the area, as far as the food quality goes. All and all, it was a good time, but definitely not what I was expecting given its reputation.

After living in the area for seven years we finally got around to trying out Carpenter and Main. For the most part our reluctance to eat her was partly biased by an image of a snooty French restaurant and partly by my wifes sensitivity to garlic. We ate in the bistro side of the restaurant which offers a more relaxed atmosphere. Our waiter was charming and very knowledgeable about the menu. My appetizer of Escargots was extremely poor for a French restaurant. The snails had a very unpleasant muddy taste. The waiter had no problem graciously taking the dish back and reported that the chef agreed that they were not up to par. My entree of risotto with pine nuts, parmesan and spinach was also not the best, being rather dry and not altogether flavorful. While I did not send it back, I only ate a third of the dish. Despite the food being less than stellar, the atmosphere and attitude of the staff would probably lead us to try the place again. Both my appetizer and entree were removed from the check and my wife received a complimentary glass of wine.

Ive always enjoyed eating here, friendly staff and tasty food. Quite a cozy atmosphere on the pub side and a nicer, slightly more formal atmosphere in the dining rooms. I do wish the beers rotated out more frequently, but they are always solid choices. Excellent cocktails.

This is my favorite restaurant. I live nearby and this is invariably the restaurant that we end up choosing. The food is consistently delicious, the ambiance is great, and the wait staff is both friendly and attentive
