Mistral has been in business for almost 20 years, which speaks volumes to its quality and reputation for exceptional dining experiences. That being said, when I hear people tell me that this is their favorite restaurant in Boston and for some their favorite in the world, I cry a little tear on the inside for them. Mistral is a VERY GOOD restaurant, but it is not quite great and there are a several other options in Boston which I would consider to be better. I took my wife here for her birthday and we both agreed that it was very good, but given the prices it didnt really wow us.... We started with a special appetizer, salmon tartare with an avocado salad base. It was very good. My wife got the halibut for her main course and was a little underwhelmed by the lack of flavor. Although it tasted good, there wasnt enough going on to make it a very dynamic dish. I had the sirloin, which was also really really good, but not the best steak Ive ever had. Actually one of the best steaks Ive ever had was at Mistrals sister restaurant, Mooo. The sirloin here looked like the exact same cut of meat that I got at Mooo, but the French style of cooking/seasoning just didnt hit the same magic meat spot for me. I had the chocolate cake for dessert which was great. My wife had the carrot cake which was a little over spiced for her. I thought the carrot cake was good, but given the use of spice I could understand how someone might be disappointed if they were expecting a traditional carrot cake. The service was attentive and generally pretty solid. They werent too overbearing and we never found ourselves waiting/wanting for anything except for wine when my wife couldnt find the right wine to pair with her halibut (go with the gruner). We had a full meal here: 1 app, 2 entrees, 2 desserts, 2 wines each and one port each. Our tab came out to $220. You dont have to spend $200 here if you dont want to. Were thinking of coming back again to have a salad each and split an entree (Im sure our waiter will love that)..... PRO TIP: #1. If you are having a special meal here, request a corner table. #2. If you live or are staying in Boston proper call ahead to request their "complimentary" car service (you still should tip the driver).

Mistral – Boston, MA – 5/31/2016 This is the first of Chef Jamie Mammano’s six amazing restaurants in the Boston Metro area… Like some of the others Ive been to, large grandiose dining room beautifully decorated… The entire place hums with the efficiency of a fine Swiss time piece… Each person moving in harmony as though the entire event was choreographed... Mistral is where art meets cuisine with its French Mediterranean fare... It tastes every bit as good as it looks and although I like discovering new places… This just got added to my go back to list... First out… A small round loaf of bread served warm with softened butter and a Chick Pea and Garlic purée… I could easily eat the entire loaf but decided to be good and have just two pieces… Its just a great bread… Tonights appetizer… The Asparagus Bisque… Asparagus, Cream, Leeks, Chicken Stock, Parsley and Spinach all puréed smooth, served with a Yogurt and Lemon Panna Cotta… Beautifully plated with a garnish of Jumbo Lump Crab and Herb Salad… There is no picture that could do justice as to exactly how delicious this soup was… Wow! The main… A Half “Whole Roasted” Duck & Wild Mushroom Risotto, Dried Cherry Gastrique… Yet another work of art! Rich in Colour…Flavour… Atop a Risotto in a Savory sauce that just has you wanting more... Amazing, but then I fully expected that it would be… And for dessert… The house made ice cream trio… Vanilla, Chocolate and Coffee along with my signature Cappuccino! My server Tom was awesome as was Jasmyn one of the managers for her attentive service… Add this to your “must try” list in the Boston area… Simply marvelous, Ill be back!

We went to the restaurant on Monday to try their $35 Prix Fixe menu on Sun/Mon as mentioned on their website. When we arrived, we were told that the prix fixe was not available. However, the waiter was considerate and offered the menu to us. Still, you could tell they were not pleased by this. Appetizers (caesar salad/steak tartare) were both very good. For the entree, we had steak au poivre and the duck. Both were huge, but extremely dry and tough. If they wanted to scrimp, I prefer smaller, better cuts than a huge slab of bad meat. The a la carte menu is in the $20-40 range; at this price point, I expected much better service and food. All in all we were disappointed, and would not go here again.

Finally got to come here for brunch after hearing wonderful things and I will definitely be back for Brunch, Dinner, any meal that they will serve me. Its definitely one of the top brunches in Boston. The service and menu was superb. They even made beignets look beautiful. I had the most delicious egg white frittata with goat cheese, basil and tomato! It was perfect. Id highly recommend their brunch as a way to sample their great food at lower price. They have their delicious burger on the menu. The service was very attentive and pot on despite the place getting crowded. I cant wait to come back for some cocktails and try some of their other amazing offerings.

From the moment you walk in you are overwhelmed with beauty in this spacious gem. Beautiful decor, high ceilings throughout, and dim lights set for a perfectly romantic evening. It is hard to believe that the dining room was full with such impeccable service. Our server was very helpful, efficient and knowledgeable about the menu items. Extensive wine and cocktail menu. Food arrived in a timely manner and was superb. The sirloin (au povrie) was filled with flavor and cooked to the perfect medium texture. The cod was also tasty (though I asked for lemon to add a little more tang). Over all great place, I highly recommend.

We were lucky enough to get a last minute reservation here for a biz dinner. We were well impressed with the prompt service and robust menu. Apparently not much on shellfish. We were hoping for some oyster options but all they had were steamed Black Mussels, which were great! As suggested we went with the Special swordfish/salmon tartare, while others had the Ribeye special. All of it was outstanding. Their extensive Wine List was impressive. The waiters recommendation was a great pairing. All and all an excellent restaurant with attention to detail and service. This has joined our 5 star list. Will come again soon.

Mistral was on the must-visit list when we moved to the South End -- Im sorry I didnt make it out to try it till last weekend, it was fantastic. Our mains and dessert were good, the cocktails were great, but the appetizers were stellar -- tasty and well-balanced cheese platter, generous portion of luxurious tuna tartare, and seriously mindblowingly awesome lobster gnocchi with absolutely perfect texture and rich buttery taste. Our friendly & patient waiter recommended those last two and he was absolutely right on -- glad we listened!

Mistral is one of these restaurants where consistency is everything. Service is always great, food is always delicious, wine list is well thought out and the cocktails complete the picture. It is a very popular spot with a lively bar area and even on a slower night (Monday) there were no empty tables by 7:30. As far as the food goes - it stays on the safe side, but never disappoints. Portions are generous, presentations are nice and service is great. And if you are lucky, you might even see someone famous here...
