Compared to the great Mexican food Ive had on the west coast, El Gato is my go to for good Mexican food here in vermont. The meats are delicious and juicy. The sauces and salsas are pretty good. Im very happy with the food. The prices are pretty reasonable. I couldnt give five stars because its really hot inside and I was sweating the whole time. It was embarrassing wiping my forehead constantly. Also the wait staff is very busy and wasnt able to come service our table as often as needed. I had to drink my dates water because my glass was always empty. Also more chips and salsa were not offered throughout the meal as they normally do on a less busy day. Food 5/5. (Great delicious food!) Service 3/5. Environment 3/5.

I when to dinner with co- workers to this Mexican restaurant because the 4 start rate from others customers, place looks great and and full of custumers, I thought this was a good signal, we get seat right away but them we had to wait almost 30 minutes so we can our orders, food take 1hour to arrive to your table, food looks good but has no taste, tortillas was really cold, Im from New Mexico where I can go to a Mexican and new Mexican food restaurant so I can tell the difference between the 2 cooking styles and this place its the worts Mexican place where I ate, the pozole was really bad Im only get like 12 pieces of corn and 4 small pieces of pork meat the rest was just red chilli soup water

My family (3 of us) came in to eat at this restaurant since it was 4.0 rating. After we order our food it took 40 mins to almost an hour waiting to get our food. It look decent good. After I took a bit of my taco the edges of the tortilla was still cold. So I decide to eat inside part of the tortilla. The rice didnt had a tomato taste flavor. It didnt take like an authentic Mexican food like I usually eat. Ps Im from Southern California and there are tons of Mexican restaurants/ places. I wish I could put zero stars in this place.

The Mole tasted like it was made with Nutella! It had a dominating flavor of fudge sauce and the sides of rice and beans were weakly seasoned, probably packaged seasoning. The free chips and salsa were good. It was a bad second experience for my dining companion and I thought this place had a good reputation, but that one meal will ensure I will not go back again. My teenage son can make better Mexican food, and that is what I will enjoy instead. Come on El Gato step it up!

The Essex location is hit or miss. Sometimes the food and service is great and other times its not. I never understand it but wonder if they have staffing issues. Last time I was there the place wasnt full, there were tables (at least a quarter of the tables) open but people were waiting to be sat. It took at least 10 mins before we got a seat and then we waited 40mins for food that was still not ready when we finally just asked them to wrap it to go. They were not busy at all.

Service was good but food was bad! Had the chimichanga that was below okay and ended up sharing with the wife! We didnt even finish my plate even thou we tagged team it! her carnita with salsa verde was just horrible! when we complained (nicely with some sarcasm)and asked for the bill we still got fully charge even thou her plate was 90percent full! Cmon guy!

Very good tex mex food and nice tgat it is not in crowded downtown burlington where the other location is. Wide array of craft beers and cocktails and some red/white wines. We go often and all things fresh, cooked to order table service indoor only. Free parking nearby.

We love the food here. Hit or miss if you need a reservation but much easier to get into than downtown location with same food. Vibe isnt quite as energetic but we like that, hiwever there are sometimes loud middle age groups in the bar.

Chelsea, the waitress/hostess/bartender was extremely busy! She was very sweet, patient, polite while knowing she was a one person act! This was my first time there and Ill definitely be back because of Chelsea!
