I have eaten here twice. The first time I ate a chicken katsu / garlic chicken plate that was decent (not amazing) but other people I worked with said that I needed to try the chicken rice bowl. After sitting for what felt like an eternity (my co worker had already finished 1/2 of his meal that was ordered just before me at a slow hour), I finally got my meal. Im not sure if this was just an off day for these guys or what, but my chicken tasted like freezer burn and the veggies were soggy and tasted weird. I only ate 1/3 of the meal and went back to work. A little while later my guts began to rumble and I needed to use the restroom to feel better. Long story short, something was really wrong with my last experience here and I wont be returning any time soon. On a side note: the tables were clean and the cook area appeared to be clean as well. They do have some menu items that are only served on certain days of the week which is kind of disappointing as you dont realize this until you try and order the meal. Given the mom & pop feel, the staff isnt very friendly (not rude) but they dont make much effort to welcome their customers. Would I recommend this place? Most likely not

Huge waste of money. Food was okay, but I can go 1001 other places for okay food that has exceptional service. This place is not one of them! One of the employees suggested his favorite dish so I figured Id try it. After watching 3 employees serve themselves meals, sit down and eat and the other employees all hanging together in the back, Im still waiting for my food. 20 mins later, I finally asked one of the girls on break that was eating if it usually takes this long for food. She went back to investigate. Guess the dish the guy suggested they were out of so they had to make a new batch for me. K, fine, but was anyone going to tell me?? Maybe they could have offered another dish? I would have taken anything instead of hovering around the counter waiting for some glimmer of food hope. The girl on break was very polite and apologetic. She gave me a free drink and put it in a to-go box for me (I think she could sense my frustration and could hear my 14 mo old screaming at this point), but why was she doing this on her break when there were 3 other people in the back? I finally walked out with food 30 mins later. Take your money elsewhere folks.

Our family went to dinner here, using a Groupon. My husband asked for a plate (BBQ Short Ribs) that was not part of the Groupon in order to have leftovers for our family. They did not have enough of the meat for the plate (there was enough for a 1/3 to 1/2 plate), so we were informed that this plate could not be fulfilled, which was not a problem. After 5-6 minutes of being seated, waiting for food, after the order was placed, my husband was asked about if we had gotten our food. The ticket had been mis-placed, and they were reaching out to ensure that we were being taken care of. The food was promptly prepared after the issue was found, and everything was delicious. We were even provided with some Short Ribs to go with our meal. The Short Ribs were AMAZING - the best that I have ever had. The food was fantastic, as always; but the service could not be beat, going quite a ways above and beyond what I would have expected. My husband has said that he likes the owner and his family, and it is evident with how they treated us tonight. We will be returning.

I have been all around Utah county and SLC county going to these small restaurants....Best Hawaiian food I have had in UT. Their service is good enough to get your food... They are all just a tad too easy going. Would like to see a greeting with a smile at the cash register, looking at my eyes when we order and a nice thank you for your order at the end. It surprises me how many cashiers dont do this. I would go to this place with great food even with a bit of sketchy service. They were great when we left...I just said thanks and they all smiled and said "thank you! we are glad you came in." Each meat is juicy, not chewy and you can taste the difference between meats. Their cold macaroni is better than any I have tried, and their rice balls are not soggy or too sticky and their Hawaiian soy sauce is a must. They will do a half and half meats even though it isnt on the menu.

Sad to say this place was just okay. My husband and I got a Groupon to try it out but was disappointed by everything. They were not friendly, in fact almost grumpy when we presented the Groupon. The place was a mess, years of dust, unclean tables, dirty walls and broken tables. The food came out warm and was over cooked and under flavored. I was very sad because I grew up eating Hawaiian food made by my parents and am a looking for that yummy comfort but this place lacked all of what you come to expect from such a place. I can guess it once had that love in it but is now needing a visit from some good Aunties and Grandma Tootoo. I may have come on a bad day, I hope but they will not get my business again and Ill go to the Theki Hawaiian restraunt in West Jordan on Redwood Road, from now on.

Poor customer service, after use of a Groupon where I mentioned that I received less food with the Groupon than when I had been without one - here is there response: "sorry about your disappointment but if you had 9 pieces of garlic chicken that is our normal size mea and quit whining . come next time mention this and I will give another 9 piece garlic chicken for free or like you said quit coming n go to mobetter you never find the best garlic children there or any other place . love to have. you back free country lol ....mahalo Lanikai grill" Ill be sure to avoid in the future; thanks for making that decision easy.

I went in tonight, this being the Nth time that I have been in - N because I have lost track of how many times I have been in to eat. As usual, the food was FANTASTIC! The Teriyaki Beef is a little tough, but that is nothing to keep me away. The restaurant was quite nice, and the owner has the BEST attitude that I have seen - he loves what he does and makes it known. If you are new to Lanikai, please try out the Garlic Chicken - our familys favorite. I am hopeful that we can keep Lanikai around for years to come.

Wasnt impressed. The first impression was negative when the young girl at the cash register stared is down instead of indicating she was ready to take our order. She was unpleasant throughout the ordering process and wasnt sure if they had anything or if they were out. So disappointed in the mac salad. It was bland and thats what I was looking forward to. My husbands kaluha pork was nothing to rave about. No flavor. This experience made me miss Pounders in Midvale more than I did before!
