Service was great. Amie was very professional, friendly and efficient. Thats where the "good" things end. Food was NOT great. Not even good or fair. Just awful! Prime rib was tough, very fatty, and virtually tasteless. The prime rib at The Grub Steak in Park City melts into your mouth off the fork (knife optional). The prime rib at Carvers couldnt be coaxed off the fork with a shot gun, after sawing it for several minutes with my knife, much less chewed (and chewed and chewed). Much of the Carvers "prime" rib ended back on my plate. :) The "Legendary" scalloped potatoes tasted like reheated fast food french fries, singed and salted. The salad was small, bland and loaded with salt. The bread was about lunch counter level. Take it home and slap some baloney on it. Carvers is terribly overrated like many other Utah "institutions." Compare it to the "late" Johannas Kitchen (nearby in Sandy), which finally blew up, putting many of us all out of culinary misery, because the owner failed to fix a long time gas leak!!! (Shucks, why did it smell like gas around Johannas every morning??) So many inexplicably rave about Carvers (see Google reviews). Just as so many loved Johannas Kitchen (see Google reviews, now mercifully past) . . . in spite of the awful greasy food, horrible service (and faint smell of gas in the morning - gotta love the smell of gas and eggs in the morning!). If only Utah people (excluding Park City) would hold Utah restaurants to higher standards or any standards. Save $80 (for two) and go eat at Dennys. You might get food thats just as bad, but you expect that, and for much less.

Valentines Day...8:30 reservation for 6 Been to this restaurant several times and all good experiences, not the case this evening. First off the table was Im pretty sure set up just for this evening and in an area where there was construction and a portable wall set up that wasnt the nicest view sitting at a round table where there wasnt anything to look at but the partition. Off night! They were out of mashed potatoes. 1 in our party opted for sweet potato. Waitress came back and said they were out of those as well! Pretty sure this is a steakhouse?? Ordered 8 oz filet medium and it came back well, crispy on the edges, and frankly just a bad piece of meat, very fatty all through the middle! Not your typical filet mignon! Pretty sure it was the last remaining crap piece they had to offer! For $35 I sent it back for a new one. They didnt offer to take back entire dish so I ate the second steak by itself. This steak I ate anyway aside from the fact I dont do "rare!" Probably the fleshiest steak Ive ever had! Yuck! By this time they were already closed for the evening and the waitress made us feel rushed the entire time from the get go, you could tell she was annoyed to be there and with us! Not my fault they do late reservations! Well we wanted dessert so we ordered the "Brownie Sundae" which should have said "cheap cake mix!" Seriously if that was a brownie then Im an alien! It was light and spongy if you will, no flavour, and nothing like a brownie!! And it was $10! Really I dont think we will go back after that! Just a terrible evening...thanks Carvers and Happy Valentines Day!

This last week (Monday, Dec. 15th, 2014), I arranged for our dinner party of 8 to eat at Carvers. Following the servers recommendation, both my wife and I had the special - Halibut and Filet Mignon. The entrees for each of us were minuscule in portion size (unbelievably small - the chef must have been stretching inventory that evening), with both of our filets over-cooked (we each ordered medium - pink centers). The potatoes au gratin I was served measured more than twice the size of the proteins on my plate. We have eaten at Carvers in the past and had good experiences. This time was a terrible disappointment. When you design your evening at an emporium with higher priced menus, you expect a better than average experience. Im finding it difficult to justify a return visit to Carvers. We dine out quite often - as do many of our friends - and certainly expect more from a supposedly up-scale restaurant. As for portion size, just how difficult is it to clear respectable profit margins, should you decide to present a meaningfully sized main course? By the way, the salad was truly unremarkable! (By way of qualification, I am average size, average weight, am not a complainer - and dont lick my platter clean!)

Worst service. We dined as a corporate party in which alcohol was not paid for. I paid separate for my 3 glasses of wine. Even though I was on my own tab the server added on her own tip on the credit slip in her own hand writing as if I wasnt gonna tip Harmony. Despite the trashy attitude I signed the slip and left. Once outside the restaurant she chased me outside the parking lot with her coworker where they proceeded to take our photos with their cellphones. I proceeded to the door to ask why they needed our photo so badly. She proceeded to tell me well you were dining and dashing. Excuse me I paid my bill. Well no you only paid for 2 glasses of wine you have 2 bills. Excuse me but why would you not have put it all on one bill and furthermore why would you think I would pay for 2 glasses but not the 3rd glass. Even though I was dining with my company and the sever received her generous tip of over 20% with a 5% presence. I was not impressed do not go here unless you want poor service and to be placed into a caste system.

Pretty “meh”, especially for the price. I got the ribs, wife got the pork chop with maple apple chutney. My food came out cold, but the server spent 15 minutes chatting with another table without coming to check on us. I tried to shut up and enjoy them but could only get through 2. Had to grab another server to ask for hot food, and by the time our server came back everyone else at our table was already finished eating before I could even get started. Wife’s pork chop was burned and dry. You can tell they hardly go through enough ribs to justify having them on the menu because they were dry and pretty flavorless, like they were sitting in a hot bath waiting for a customer. The calamari appetizer was great (minus the hair stuck in one of the pieces), but all in all it feels like “just another expensive steakhouse”. Do yourself a favor and go to Texas Roadhouse. Edit: lowered from 2 stars to 1. Apparently the cold ribs gave me food poisoning.

The steaks are amazing at Carvers. They have appetizers that are delicious. The calamari is wonderful as is the stuffed portabello mushroom and the ahi tuna....mmmm, and I dont like fish or seafood. Salads are tasty and gourmet...my favorites are the romaine with vinaigrette, bacon and Bleu cheese, or the Cesar, and the spinach with mustard dressing is excellent as well. Soups are flavorful and hot.The prime rib and porterhouse are perfectly cooked to your preference. Chicken or fish entrées are also available. Service is well above average such that I felt comfortable providing a 20% tip. My wife and I look forward to going here on special occasions and on our anniversary every year. This is fine dining. Prices are comparable to Red Lobster and cheaper than The Market Street Grill.
