Bad first experience eating at Tres Hombres. 3 out of the 4 dishes for our table were incorrect, and it took quite a long time to even get our plates. One dish was supposed to be two smothered burritos....the dish came to the table and was not smothered...not even a tiny bit of chile verde. Two dishes were supposed to be machaca con huevos (grilled veggies and shredded beef scramble with eggs and baked with cheese)...and there was not a speck of beef in either dish. Aside from the incorrect dishes, our waitress was very good and very apologetic for the missing beef and chile verde smothering. She offered to bring out ground beef and chile verde to add to our incomplete dishes, but we had already waited so long that we didnt want to bother getting the additions. The waitress spoke with her manager and said he would come talk to us about the error and possibly adjusting the bill. The manager didnt even come to discuss the issue with us or to apologize. They did take $3 off each incorrect meal, so at least we didnt have to pay for the meat that we didnt get. The only good things from our experience at Tres Hombres (and the only reasons Im giving two stars instead of just one) were the chips and salsa and the service of our waitress. She was very attentive to refilling drinks, chips, and salsa...all well before they were empty. And she apologized multiple times for the long time it was taking for our dishes to come out and for them being incorrect. Needless to say, we wont be going back.

Tres Hombres is the first place that comes to mind when I want to go out to have a good time, great food, and even better drinks. I have traveled all over the world and tried Mexican from the Country of Mexico, to the coast of Spain. This place delivers exactly what I want, every time. Tres Hombres has some incredible dishes and are flexible to modify meals to your specifications. (if you want it spicy, tell them. if you want less spice, tell them) I love LOVE the mahi mahi tacos, enchiladas zacatecas, carne asada, and the fajitas. They have a bunch of special house made salsas (you have to ask for them) that are so delicious, but more importantly, add so much spice/flavor to any dish or to chips and salsa. I never leave this place without taking chips and salsa home to share because they are so addictive. The drinks, margaritas in particular, are in their own category for the state of Utah. These margs have the perfect variations depending on tequila preference, mixer preference (grand marnier, chambord, triple sec, etc) and each one is so perfect. I prefer margaritas on the rocks to get the full flavor of tequila, my favorite is called the Pama Rita, you wont be disappointed. Overall, perfect place to go out get some drinks and Mexican with friends, go with your family, on a date, or they do private parties (had them cater before, it was stellar). Remember, you are responsible for the experience you have, so drink up and chow down. This IS the place for Mexican in Utah. SALUD!

Their chips and salsa are the best. Im vegetarian, so have only tried the cheese enchiladas, but traditional Mexican enchiladas are only cheese anyway, so from that perspective, they are good. This place runs a little Tex-Mex, but not as much as Bajio Grill. The portions are about average, and you dont have to beg for limes, which is a plus. The atmosphere is fun, but can be a little noisy. Every time Ive gone, theyve had the music pretty loud, probably to drown out the plate/fork/tile floor, etc. noise, but with the ceiling being high and exposed, it sort of creates a reverberating echo chamber. If you arent planning on talking a lot, its fine, but if you want to chat, go for lunch, rather than dinner. It seems to be more quiet then. Their drinks arent all that great. They seem to contain frozen, rather than fresh fruit. Portions are adequate, but not large. If you want left-overs, dont go really hungry. If youre used to Americanized "Mexican" food, there are better places. Its not traditional Mexican food, either, though, so if you cant decide which side of the fence to stay on, this is a good pick. Oh, and most of the wait-staff does speak Spanish, so that helps.

Vegetarian selection including beans. As vegans my boyfriend and I split the the vegetable fajitas and the guacamole appetizer. We forgot to order the guacamole app w/o cheese and the waiter, no questions, quickly whisked the plate away and returned with a new plate bearing chips laden with tomatoes, green onions, olives and a cup of guacamole. The vegetable fajitas plate that came was impressive (esp. to a vegan eating out in slc). Beans, rice, salsa, more guacamole and a vegetable medley in a portion large enough to leave 2 feeling too full. The vegetable medley consisted of onion, zucchini, red and green bell peppers and green onions sauteed until slightly caramelized. A surprising vegan/vegetarian find. When I was there about a year ago on a weekend evening there was a flamenco guitarist that was incredibly enjoyable to listen to, and overall enhanced the whole night out experience. Unfortunately, I believe that I may have been too early (6pm) to get my flamenco fix. It is my hope that the flamenco has not stopped. I plan to revisit and see a man about a vegan chimichanga...

Came here for lunch on a weekday. It was not crowded at all and so we received very prompt service and our food didnt take long to come out. Even with the lunch menu, the portions were quite generous. Im no Mexican food connoisseur, but I think it was tasty and everyone else stuffed themselves (except the 3 year old who never eats a formal meal if he can help it - he tries to do snacks between meals only...). You can eat chips and salsa while you wait for your order, which is fantastic for little kids and is stayed happy the whole time we waited. With 2 adults and 4 kids, the total before tip was $70, or $11.67 per person. However, there was so much left over that I think nearly everyone can get another whole meal out of it which would average to somewhere between $6 and $9 per plate, depending on how you slice it. The ambiance is nice and helped make the kids even more excited about being there. Even the bathrooms were decorated nicely. We would happily go here again.

Exceedingly average food, way over priced. I hadnt been to Tres Hombres in years but gave it another shot recently ... now I remember why I hadnt been back in years. The food is average, at best, and at a price point of around $15 per entree (and up) and a minimum of $7.50 for a Marg id expect the quality of the food and drink to be excellent. Its not. Fajitas are just ok, but not served on a sizzling platter and the tortillas are right out of a bag just like youd get at a grocery store. Inexcusable. The "Ultimate" margarita at $8 is not great, about as good as ones I make at home with Cuervo and frozen limeaid. The atmosphere of the place is good and thats about the only really positive thing I can say about it. You can get better food at half the price at Cafe Rio, or for restaurant and drinks downtown at the Rio Grande (which itself isnt great, but still much better and less expensive). Also try Los Cucos in Sandy if you want Tex-Mex.
