My family has been frequenting this restaurant since its establistment and, for the most part, the service here has been acceptable. After our last visit, however, we will not be coming back to the tandoor again. We ordered the Idli and Plain Dosa from their dinner menu, and a Naan dish. Even though we had to wait a better part of an hour for our food to arrive, in a restaurant that wasnt very full, we gave the staff of the Tandoor the benefit of the doubt and assumed they were having some sort of technical difficulties in the kitchen. That was untill we saw a number of families who arrived after us get their food well before we had. After we finally got our food we informed the manager that the Idli and Plain Dosa dish we ordered had arrived without the Idli. He gave us some excuse about the Idli being fragile and had to be cooked from scratch for every order. (I assumed everything was cooked from scratch?) He assured us that it was on its way. It wasnt. After we had finished our meal, we informed that manager that the Idli never arrived. Now, when you go to even a fast food restaurant and order a burger and fries, if you dont get the fries you dont pay for the fries. This concept is lost to the management of the Tandoor. When we asked the manager to adjust the price of the meal to account for the lack of Idli he told us he would be serving us the Idli to go and advised us to have it for breakfast. This brazen idiocy by this manager had us furious. We came here for a dinner, not for advise on what to have for breakfast. Our meal was never discounted and we walked out of there vowing never to come back again. I have lost all faith in the quality of the Tandoor and, by association, the Copper Bowl in Downtown Salt Lake City (same ownership). In a very competitive Indian restaurant market in salt lake, you deserve better that the Tandoors mediocre food and terrible customer service. Buyer beware.

Service is terrible and food was subpar. I had the worst restaurant experience at this place yesterday. First it took a good 10-15 minutes to be seated while the place was practically empty. When it came time to order I asked for a lamb dish to which the waiter who I think is owner, told me they didnt have the dish I wanted that he would check if they had other lamb dishes, after returning from checking, he said they were out of all lamb products, which I was ok with and ordered a chicken dish instead. After waiting for 30 minutes, an Indian couple walked in and within minutes, they had their food and me and son were still waiting. We watched this guy service/treat the other 2 customers in the restaurant to a better service the whole time. After almost walking out, he came and told me oh the delivery-truck just came in and that they have lamb that its being cooked without asking if I still wanted the dish. After an hour the food finally came we had little appetite left and ask for the ticket and left. I will never be going there again!

We now call this place "The Black Hole of Calcutta" whenever we drive by. DO NOT PATRONIZE THIS HELL HOLE. Horrible service. Hostess seated us right next to a large loud group (less than three feet away) when there were several empty tables in the dining room. I politely asked to be seated somewhere else to which the hostess replied with nothing more than a sneer and folded arms. Not wanting to make an issue about it in front of my wife, I sucked it up and sat at the table where were practically sitting on top of the group next to us. The service was slow, they forgot several items we ordered, the food was over spiced (we ordered mild), the drinks were warm (no ice) and to top it all off the meal made repeated trips to the bathroom a dire necessity soon after we left the restaurant. We should have just flushed the $45 down the toilet and cut out the middle man.

Some of the food is good, but when your entree is not good, you shouldnt be happy. Especially when the only good food you had was sweet food and not real, healthy food. Just warning you about two things. Their Fish Tikka Masala tastes like something died (And if that makes no sense to you, it tastes like a fish smells right after it dies.). Their website hasnt been updated in years, so you have no way to contact them online except maybe by Facebook. While I am writing this review I remember the only things I really liked at this place during dinner were the Mango Lassi (Drink.) and Peshwari Naan (Sweet naan, practically qualifies as a dessert.). I went with friends and the food just didnt taste like Indian food I had elsewhere (Ive eaten at food places all over Salt Lake County or Ive heard of them most likely.).

I highly recommend Tandoor and thier buffee! The food is incredible and the management has always gone above and beyond for me. To address some of the other reviews, Ive been coming here for years and Ive never had under cooked chicken or been treated unfairly... This is my favorite plate. Get a base of white rice, top it with the orange chicken (its not sweet orange chicken) with a lot of its sauce. On the side put a few of those meaty blood red chicken wings accompanied with all the vegetables its cooked with, add some non-garlic naan bread and youll be in heaven for about 15 minutes. Also, try their rice pudding and mango ice cream, its unusually tasty. At this point I cant stop going back because Im addicted. Thank you Tandoor.

Horrible Service. The hours of operation on a Saturday night is until 10:00pm, I walked in at 8:30pm tonight to place an order to go. A couple was in front of me and the woman sat them. I asked if I could place an order, she says yes then walks to the counter, stares blankly and with confusion at a computer monitor and a piece of paper for several minutes then suddenly states that they are closed. I stood there for at least 10 minutes before being acknowledged, then another 5 waiting to place an order. The woman couldnt make eye contact or even acknowledge why they people in front of me was served and how I was turned away, even though we both walked in at the same time.

The food is always good but their service sucks! I ordered take out last week and when I went to pick up my food I literally stood in front of the hostesses table for 20 minutes while I was the only one waiting to be helped. I could see my food sitting there ten feet from me and the lady took two phone calls and made eye contact with me several times but seemed too busy to help me. I contemplated grabbing the food and just placing the money on the table but I didnt have exact change (only had 2 x $20 and the meal wasnt $40) and I didnt want to reward them for their bad behavior! Wish they would figure it out because the food is always delicious...

I dont know why the reviewer with the one star would want to return his food, since this place has excellent food. Of COURSE you might be unfamiliar with some of the dishes. They are totally authentic, as my husband knows the owner, who barely speaks English. Hes a personable and hard-working guy. Ive been to both the buffet and the dinner, and I much prefer the dinner. The service is slow, as its a family-owned business and they dont have a lot of employees, but its a pleasure to not feel rushed by the waiters as you do in other restaurants. You can sit and chat and enjoy the people youre with and savor every delightful mouthful.
