Went there tonight and left pretty disappointed actually. Probably amongst some of the worst service Ive had before, at any restaurant. The only reason I left a reasonable tip was because my kids left a mess of rice on the floor .. but that was mostly due to the fact that their high chairs were too high and didnt fit under the table top, so they didnt allow my son to come close enough to eat, and his food kept falling. The high chairs also didnt have buckles and were very shallow if that makes sense. So I had to really watch him that he didnt try to get up becuse he wouldve toppled over. Regarding the service, when we first arrived it took them a very long time to get the high chairs and I kept hearing the waiter say "two high chairs" to the other people working but for some reason none of them were responding. It was weird. We were literally the ONLY lpeople in there... the food was great, but my sister in law ordered mild coconut curry and hers was just as spicy as our medium coconut curry. I didnt like that they only brought one bowl of rice for me, my sister & my two kids to all share. The rice was gone fast and he didnt bring us another one until I finally asked. The weirdest part was that at the end when he brought the check we had some leftover dishes that I was looking forward to bringing home for tonorrow. My sister in law asked for a box to go.. he seemed confused and she explained it to him again. I then said can I please have a box for my food as well ? He took my food I guess and brought back only one box for my sister in law. I asked him about mine and he said he threw it away..... and he also threw away my sister in laws rice. I was so upset. We just paid $50 for food and he threw it away.. and I had half of my curry left. Who does that?! I was not happy. He didnt even apologize. Im assuming he didnt speak very good English or something, maybe it was his first day?? So I dont know, at least I know he wasnt being rude purposely (at least I hope), I wish he would have been more on top of things (besides our water, Ill give him that!) I was not satisfied with my overal experience going there and wish I had my leftover food for later :( That really makes me sad!

An Indian eatery in Salt Lake City can seem like a welcome excursion to exotic eastern food until one steps in to this hell hole of a place. The ambiance is unpleasant. This is excusable so long as a restaurant is clean and the food is well cooked and tasty. The HK falls woefully short on both counts. A preliminary trip to the restroom confirmed suspicion that the management is not versed in health codes. The waiters were rather clueless, wore dirty clothes and were hanging around the place without much of an idea about anything related to a service oriented industry. On a more important level, the existence of this place really brings into question the food and restaurant inspection in the Salt Lake City area. The front door leads directly into the kitchen which is half open. A delivery man from a food service firm directly wheeled his cart along with the accompanying dirt right into the kitchen which also seems to function as a food storage unit. I have never witnessed a delivery man with all his clothing finery wheel in and out of a place where your food is being cooked. The name Himalayan might be apt. if this place were to be located at the base camp of Everest but not in the heart of the downtown of the most liveable city in the US. Oh, by the way, the place is located right next to a large garbage dump.

Good food, weird service. Went here with my wife and 2 year old daughter last night.Food is good, and once youve ordered you get your meal pretty fast. The service was weird though. They have not heard of designated tables for waiters I think. We were circled by at least 4 different waiters and waitresses. All of them asked what we wanted as appetizer. Was wondering if I would eventually get 4 appetizers or none at all, but I did get my one appetizer. Then nobody was there when we were ready to order, Still didnt know who our waiter was, so just asked the guy who filled our water. Then there was this nice girl that worked there, but wasnt a waitress I think. She tried to entertain our daughter, but it was quite distracting, was more like interruptions. Then the first time she asked if she could hold our daughter and we were ok with that; she likes other people so thats good. But then the girl also picked up our kid when we wanted to leave and was holding here and showing her to other kids in the restaurant while we wanted to leave. They all meant well, but you dont do this in restaurants to you guests that youve never seen before.

This is no kind of representation of what Indian food should be! My husband, who is himself an Indian, and I went to Himalayan kitchen when it first opened on 400 South and took the place of a far superior Indian buffet. The first time we went we tried the paneer tikka masala. It tasted like it had been made with Campbells tomato soup. Bllleeeeeeccccchhh! Then, they moved around the corner, updated their look... about four years later we thought we would give it a try to see if their menu had also improved. Blllleeeeeeeccccchhhh! Pakodas were yucky, the mix of spices in the masalas was just off. They need a new chef and bad. If youve never had Indian food before, dont let this be your first impression because its not that good. I mean you can put chicken tikka masala on your menu, but it doesnt mean its going to taste good. If they had set up shop in a city with a larger Indian population, they would have been laughed out of town. Seriously! Try Tandoor or New Delhi Palace instead.

I been in this place few times before, but last week I invited two girls there, when we walked in the Guy said theyre gonna close in a littlebet but we can come in, so were like OK, we walked in and our waitress came, she spoke to us, but we couldnt get anything of what she said, we told her OK give us 1 min , right after a Guy came and he said exactly, (are you gonna order we dont have time, you need to order now or you leave, I told him wow we needed your advice with the menu, and we couldnt understand the lady, hes like( this one good you want it, or leave , we close you no want it, next time,), I was embarrassed infront of my guests, they wanted to leave, I was really mad at the way he talked to us, it was Saturday night so we went to another place, but all night I was upset , the Guy was very rude to us, and he didnt care that weve been there before, but even if I love the food I am not going there anymore,

4 of us reached the restaurant about 40 minutes before the buffet lunch was supposed to end. We noticed that about 40% of items on menu were finished, rest were partially filled and not looking fresh . Hoping that a refill will be done, we started eating but we were disappointed as no refill was done . After about 20-30 minutes, we asked them if theyd refill, but they refused saying that only 10-15 minutes are left, we cant refill. Fine we get it, but they should tell the customers while entering itself that food wont be refilled, so that customers can decide and plan accordingly. We were further disappointed even more, when the restaurant staff welcomed another family who entered the restaurant, even when the staff clearly knew that theres hardly any food left to be served for existing customers and no more refill will be done. My review and rating is based on my experience explained above.
