I am a Thai Food Nut... and this is bar none the best Thai food in Salt Lake City. All fresh ingredients, clean, and great service. I eat there at least once a week for lunch, and when we eat out as a family, its the only place my kids want to go! Weve taken several friends there too, and now theyre regulars as well. Ive tried many other places in the valley hoping to find a place closer to home, but keep making the drive downtown! Not only is the food terrific but the value is Awesome! No where else will you get the quality and quantity for this price. As for "Stockton" and "Nolans" reviews below, I am pretty sure its the same person writing different reviews. I happen to have been in the restaurant on two occasions when some idiot came in from a neighboring business causing all kinds of trouble. He, and I assume others from his business were using the private restaurant parking for their business and were politely asked not to use the limited parking of the restaurant. He was throwing a fit and tried to intimidate the owner, who remained calm and tactful and should have called the police. This idiot threatened that he would ruin the business and I assume this is his weak attempt. Weevil (learn how to spell idiot) and roaches... really? If that were even remotely true it would so reflect in other reviews consistantly in place of the stellar reviews that are common with this restaurant. If you are looking for great Thai food, this is your place.

I have dined often at Sawadee over the course of the last five years - including probably dozens of lunches with coworkers and numerous dinner outings - and have picked up take out several times as well. I can't think of a single occasion when they disappointed. They are always able to accommodate our large lunch groups - it's one of few places I can count on to get us back to work within reasonably close to an hour without even having to be pushy about it, and they never hesitate about splitting the bill six ways. Within minutes of sitting down I have ice water in front of me + my glass usually stays full throughout my meal, the portions are plentiful for their price, and the food tastes pretty, pretty good (there are few things on the menu I have not tried, and Ive had great Thai food in lots of cities to compare against - maybe not New York, but San Francisco, Chicago, Tokyo). Everyone is entitled to an off day, but Ive never had bad service here. On top of all this, the restaurant interior is really beautifully decorated. Honestly I cant understand how anyone would have such a bad experience here. Sawadee has all of this going for it, and I had to write this review just to come to its defense, yet it not even my favorite Thai restaurant in the Salt Lake Valley!

I ordered from here because they were open until 9:30 and I missed My Thai at 9. They seem to have an excellent atmosphere (i dashed in to pick up the food as they were closing) but the dishes cost around $12-$14 a pop, but they were prepped with TLC/ingredient standards & for abt a $6-$8 dish. The dishes were SO spicey it ruined the whole cheap thai experience to the point i could barley eat any of the dishes (never mind it was the most ive ever paid for cheap thai and the worst thai food ive ever had). I ordered mine not-spicy and last minute said *a little* spicey (maybe i should have really emphasized MILD) my gf ordered hers spicey. I couldnt tell a difference. I dont know how our friends Mild dish turned out. The chicken was so rubbery it was disgusting. -- Conclusion: Most Ive ever paid for the worst Thai food Ive ever had-- but keep in mind im fresh out of NYC (food spoiled def?) and my mind is still blown that this is the latest place i could get Thai in a full blown city and my gfs local standards gave it a 6 even with her mouth burning off in complaint. - I like family run estabs and hope this was mostly the result of a rushed "closing time special".

The best thai food in the Salt Lake area. We have been to several other restaurants in the salt lake area and utah county, and this is our favorite. The food is excellent, and not only does it taste great but the portions are big enough that you can often make 2 meals out of it. The only menu item we have ever been disappointed in was the duck, which was on the dry side. Our favorites are the pad thai, massaman curry, drunken noodles. Its also great that the price is better than other thai places that arent as nice and the quality and quantity isnt as good. Most dishes are between $9-$12. The lunch special is awesome at less than $8. Nice decor as well. There was one time when the server got a little mixed up, but it was pretty busy and we had a large group. Other than that the service has been consistently good. We love this place.

I ordered two classic dishes, spicy sour prawn soup (tom yam koong) and red chicken curry (kaeng paa kai). Both dishes arrived within ten minutes. The tom yam looked nice with plenty of mushrooms and two huge shrimps but smelled incomplete and the taste was off balance: galangal was missing in the white spectrum and chillies in the red. The base was a chicken stock and missed lime juice and fish sauce, with too much emphasis on sugar. The red chicken curry was surprisingly green (it even had peas) and the chicken was pre-cooked and not stir-fried in the curry paste - a capital mistake for a curry. The portion was huge and serves two. The Singha beer was an original 5% and tasted great. Considering the price and the fast and friendly service, this is a good restaurant, but the dishes I tasted missed some finesse.

Im from Sydney, Australia, where there are very many quality Thai restaurants. Sawadee Thai was a great lunch experience for me! 1. The place has spacious and well decorated interior and exterior seating 2. The wait staff were very welcoming, prompt and attentive (I must have had my glass of water topped up about 10 times within the 30 minutes I was there 3. A straight-forward, but comprehensive menu 4. Affordable lunch menu ($8.50 includes spring roll, dipping sauce, rice and 2 bowls of 18 meal choices). 5. Generous serving size (I got the Massaman Curry and Chicken Broccoli). The Massaman had chicken, rather than beef... Im not sure whether that is how they do it here, but I would have preferred beef. 6. I was in and out of there in no time! I would definitely go again... shame Im only visiting!

We were told this restaurant has the best Thai food in Salt Lake City so we were really excited to try it out. Unfortunately we never got to taste the food we ordered! We were told there was a 5 minute wait (no problem) but that turned into a 20 minute wait. After we were seated, we waited another 15 minutes for water and then another 10 minutes to order (we ordered an appetizer and a noodle dish to split). Shortly after we ordered, a group of 8 guys were seated next to us. Within 15 minutes of them being seated, they received their food! We were still waiting on our appetizer and straws! After being ignored and waiting another 10 minutes for food, we finally got up and left. All the food around us smelled amazing but I doubt well ever be back.
