4.5 stars...Excellent high-brow Mexican Food (I didnt didnt realize that this was possible prior to watching Chefs Table which inspired my visit here) . This Mexican food is different and well-executed. Refreshing take on a tired and generally monochromatic food genre. Excellent molés and daily fresh salsas. Only deducting a half star due to a couple minor imperfections. Duck tacos were great portion and had good flavor but a bit one-noted and oily. Pork molé poblano enchiladas were another great portion..Pork cooked great, mole subtle and flavorful. However overall it could have used another brightening flavor component to play against the wonderful backdrop of the dark molé, stopping it just short of perfection. The Salmon Manchamanteles was superb as its composition addressed the need for point and counterpoint perfectly. Crema against a light red flavorful molé, perfectly caramelized salmon filet medium rare inside. I would have substituted fried platanos in lieu of the fried bananas that underpin the plate but thats just a matter of personal taste. Rice and black beans are an event here and elevated beyond the typical afterthought status they occupy in mainstream AmeriMex cuisine. Ill definitely be back to sample more of the menu!

I had great expectations of this new restaurant and was very disapointed. I went with friends from out of town and wanted to show them the "hip" side of SLC. Zy let me down in every way. I was hoping for fun staff, great food and a wonderful experience. I was sadly disapointed. There were few guests in the place, yet it took almost 10 minutes to even get a hotess to notice we were there. Our waiter took about as long to visit our table. The table, salt shakers, and seats were filthy. We ordered apps and entrees; the apps took about 20 minutes and entrees seemed to take longer than that. Our food was underwhelming, seemed stale and none of the veggies were fresh. The wait staff was rude, food just mediocre. And overpriced. Sad as I hoped I had found a new favorite hot spot for great food and friendly service. Dont get your hopes up, in fact, dont even go. Youre better off paying a lot less at a brew pub and getting mediocre food for a reasonable price

I truly enjoyed my experience at Alamexo. I loved the ambiance and decor. It was cozy and comfortable. The service was fantastic. We had a reservation and were seated immediately. The server was prompt and knowledgeable about the menu. I asked for recommendations and she told us about her favorites. We started out with the table side guacamole. It was amazing. Light and fresh. We wanted spicy and we got it. It was the good kind of heat that built up over time and didnt just smack you in the face all at once. For dinner I chose the Carne Tampiaquena, which was one of our servers recommendations. It was a rib eye marinated in chili and beer, served with a vegetable enchilada. It was cooked perfectly, seasoned perfectly and was tender. It was topped with some oaxaca cheese and spinach. Fantastic dish! My buddy ordered the enchilada mole poblano. He was equally happy with his meal. They have an extensive selection of margaritas that were quite tasty as well!

Fancy, nice..no particular memory or connection with the server though...just dry, "order and pay"..Relaxed atmosphere, yet only vaguely welcoming... Best thing on menu is the salmon / banana entre... the rest, well, is fairly standard (aka boring). We forgot our to-go... we came back to claim it a few minutes later, and "they" had thrown it away... Better restaurants will run it out to you, but likely there is no owner present at this lovilee restaurant... (if ya know what i mean..) Other than the salmon dish, which is wonderful, Id go back, but only for that. 3.5 stars... Got 2 six inches churros as a complementary dessert between my date and i...the bill was $53, no drinks..plus $10 tip..

Pros: Great atmosphere, really good service, made-to-order guac is tasty, and great tasting churros (which were complimentary!) Cons: Unfortunately our actual meal was rather boring. If youre looking for a Mexican place with healthy, local ingredients, then Alamexo may be for you, you can actually taste the difference. But if youre looking for tasty Mexican, maybe go somewhere else. Our enchiladas were dry, the salsa was bland and the rice was also rather flavorless. If you do come here, prepare to spend $20+ and try the steak or salmon

I went with 5 friends to Zy for my birthday dinner a few days ago and it was awesome! The staff knew it was my birthday ahead of time and they really made it special. The cheese selection was excellent (my favorite was the Black Mambazo), as were all of our entrees. I got the pavé steak dish and would love to have it again--except I want to try everything else on the menu too. Our waitress was also very knowledgeable about the wine menu as well and helped me branch out from what I would normally try. Cant wait to eat here again!

The saddest and worst experience of my life. Why would you want to go to restaurant to pay to get discriminated. No stars for you. I will never go back to this restaurant ever again ... you are an embarrassing and should learn how to treat people. Travel and learn some manners. Educated your self ignorants . I cannot believe we were basically kicked out for being happy. They thought we were drunk and didnt want to serve is. The nerve. Horrible experience

Ate here the other day. Décor was really nice. The restaurant is located in the historic Brooks Arcade building. This place is great and the prices are really good for the quality that you get. Had the mushroom soup special. It was perfect. Also had the enchiladas. They were very full flavored and delicious. It was easy to get a great table at lunch time and they were very prompt. Best of all the service here is excellent. I highly recommend ZY.

My husband and I cam here for Valentines Day. The staff were all very nice, and a fun ambiance. However, the food was just okay. It wasnt anything special and it was expensive for what you got. Between the appetizer, my dish, and my husbands dish everything tast d the same. Personally, I would definitely prefer even Cafe Rio over this place and its 1/4 the price. It was fine for a special occasion. But I probably wont come here again.

I will never eat at any other Mexican restaurant again. The staff is amazing and the food is delicious. My favorite part of the whole meal was the Tacos De Carne Asada, it also comes with the most amazing rice and beans and every table or bar meal comes with chips and their salsa of the day. At the end of your meal they give you complementary churros and I do not like churros but I loved these ones.

The Mole burrito was delicious, but the duck tacos were kinda hard. There was nothing soft about that duck, and I have had plenty of duck before, so I knew what to expect. Pricy Margarita, but everything else was reasonably priced. Our waiter (Cassie) made sure that we knew of their 10pm closing time, and that she had plans for NYE. She was nice, but made us feel a little rushed through dinner.

I would love to write a review, but after making plans to take some important clients to lunch BASED on the times listed on their web site, saying they open everyday at 11:30; I was embarrassed and left standing at the CLOSED sign at the door. Apparently only open early on weekends. We were so excited to try this new place, they need to correct their published information
