Overall my experience here was pretty good. The food was tasty and the staff was friendly. A good selection of the meals come with "the works" (guacamole, sour cream, & pico de gallo) on the side, which is a nice addition. I think I would have been happier with the experience if we hadnt had to wait 20 minutes after we were seated to see a menu. Wed had a reservation and the table was ready for us to be seated, but wed burned through a couple baskets of chips & salsa before our waitress could make it to our table. It sounded like shed been busy with a larger group of people, but youd think they could have the host drop some menus on the table or something in the meantime (it was a Thursday evening and they didnt appear to be super busy). Also, the salsa was pretty thin. I know thats personal preference & some folks dont it chunky though, so Im less inclined to put up a serious stink over that.

As crowded as this Mexican restaurant seems to be most of the time, I expected a really good experience. I went early to beat the crowds and only had to wait 5-10 mins. The salsa for the chips comes in jalapeño pepper shaped bowls, cute but difficult to scoop out the last little bit with the chips. The tortilla chips themselves are fairly flavorless. I ordered the "house special" Iguanarita drink, frozen, and was disappointed immediately. It was also flavorless and clearly did not contain much tequila. I ordered the Enchiladas Verdes meal... shredded chicken enchilidas (flavorless and small), refried beans (cannot really mess this up), Mexican rice (flavorless), and the requisite small salad (also flavorless, with no guacamole). The whole affair was overpriced for the small portions and lack of flavor throughout. Service was prompt but curt. I would NOT recommend this restaurant to my friends.

I felt sick the rest of the day after tasting the enchilada sauce. The sauce was brown not red. It tasted rancid. They serve refried beans and old looking pink/orange rice. Beans and rice are cheap, cant they at least give black beans and fresh rice? The kids menu said meals cost 5$ and under, I was charged 11$ for two meals, tax not included. I ordered chicken tamale and I got one with long green peppers in it, no chicken. It looked like grass, so I didnt eat it. I called and was offered a refund if I speak to the owner when they are in house. That was nice but my friend liked her meal, and that wouldnt feel honest to get all of my money back, when she liked hers. Great service, not impressed with the food or prices 10$ a plate. Wish I spent my money at Olive Garden that was within walking distance.

Okay, its true that I havent been to all of the Mexican restaurants in Salt Lake City, but I have been to all of the well known Mexican restaurants. Mexican food is my favorite genre of food, and when I ate at Blue Iguana, I absolutely fell in love. When I went, I asked the waitress what she thought was the best, and she recommended this meal, that had steak, and bacon in a almond mole sauce. I was skeptical at first, but after I had my first bite, I was in love. I finally found not only my favorite Mexican restaurant but also my favorite Mexican dish. The atmosphere, service, and food are all great. Sometimes they will put out a coupon in the mail, so watch out for that. I highly recommend this to all of my friends and family.

The Puntas de Filete is absolutely FANTASTIC! Sirloin tips and bacon sautéed with onions, serrano and guerro chiles, with almond mole. The decor is exactly what a Mexican Restaurant should be....bright, cheerful, and even a little tacky in some aspects. On Friday they had a great couple singing. A girl in our group got veggie tacos and said they were super plain and not very good. Its a place where not everything is great, but there are plenty of delicious things. Its a little weird to find because its BEHIND a parking garage and isnt seen from the street. Park in the garage, tell them youre eating at the Blue Iguana, take the ticket, get it validated at the restaurant, and you get 1.5 hours of free parking.

Adequate. But very run of the mill food. The "carnitas platter" was not carnitas. It was just shredded cooked pork. Very dry and little flavor. Carnitas should be slow braised, moist, tender and flavorful. This meat was none of the above. Rice was dry and crumbling. Beans were a formless pile of paste. I asked for corn tortillas and was borough flour tortillas. Two of them. Kind of chintzy. Service was very fast, but most likely only because they sling precooked stuff into a plate and microwave it. It all had a microwaved flavor and texture. Margaritas are good but overpriced. Service was friendly and responsive. Three stars there. Atmosphere gets four stars. I tried it once but wont go back.

The Blue Iguana is the Red Iguanas strange step sister. Many of the food choices are the same as what you will find at the Red Iguana but the Blue has its own spin on everything. The food is pretty good but the service is always horrible. If you show up during a rush you will get far better service than if you show up during a non-busy time. I have sat waiting for someone to take my order for 25 minutes when there was only one other table occupied in the entire restaurant. The Blue Iguana is a good place for lunch downtown though because there are not many Mexican food choices that are not street vendors. I would recommend giving it a try if you work downtown.

All in all, I really enjoy the Blue Iguanas food. Their margaritas and burritos are top notch-delicious. Unfortunately, if you are physically handicapped in any way, good luck getting around the place. They dont have a handicapped bathroom stall and the floor was all wet. I was on crutches and slipped, landing on my injured foot because I didnt see the wet spot (the lighting was very dim). The restaurant, in general, is very small and narrow. Service was friendly and polite, but very slow. Our waitress was very nice when we could get her to come to our table, but we didnt see her often. My suggestion: enjoy the Blue Iguanas food at home--order your meal to go.

***Update: I literally got sick from eating here as soon as I got back to my hotel*** The only reason I give this 1 star is because the service was decent, but the food..... This food is NOT Mexican Food!!! Being from Texas an having access to amazing Mexican food the food here was definitely disappointing. No flavor to the queso it was dull and watery, the pulled pork enchiladas tasted like flavorless, sweet bbq pork, and the refried beans were watery like they came from a can. I ate here due to a good review from a SLC local but NEVER AGAIN. A true disappointing experience the food should be more authentic to be able to say it is "Authentic" Mexican Food.

Stay away stay away. I was surprised this restaurant was full. The service was poor. The food tasteless. Definitely overpriced. Likely full because it is within walking distance of many hotels in the downtown SLC area. There are far better choices for eating than this one. I hope the Park City one is better. I am surprised at the good ratings. Must ne written by folks who have no idea what good mexican restaurants and foods are like. Compared to Taco Bell this is even below that. The rice and refried beans tastes like theyknow came of a can. The Tingas Poblanos were listed as spicy. Maybe to a person absent the sense of taste. Stay away stay away.
