You will pay for refills. Hua was upset that prices for drink syrup kept going up so she only buys in bottles from Costco in retaliation. Her husband Gary is a jerk, the descriptions by other reviewers are dead on. He intentionally evades taxes by filing employee tips as contractor pay on form 1099. They rip off employees and violate labor laws. Gross pay plus tips divided by hours worked must meet minimum wage. Occasionally it does not and Gary refuses to correct it. Labor laws state that minimum wage employees are not responsible for cleaning uniforms that they are required to wear without compensation, yet they make employees take them home and clean them without compensation. When confronted, they become violently defensive. Garys father physically pushed me into a corner (assault) got in my face and tried to justify how they break labor and tax laws because they dont make enough money. I also suspect they are violating alcohol laws, they remove all alcohol from the premise during TABC inspections. If they conducted business legally and treated their employees better, they would have a much better reputation and Im sure they would make enough money. I will not support this buisness until they prove that they have changed by publically displaying their tax documents (showing that employees tips are properly reported on W2 instead of 1099), and that they are following all alcohol regulations and cleaning uniforms. Aw Dang was created when Hua and some cooks left Dragon Lake in Universal City after a dispute. Id recommend trying Dragon Lake instead.

My wife and daughter who at that time was 2 years old along with me had a horrible experience at Aw Dang! We ordered their buffet which was mostly chocolates with a small selection of main course items. They did not refill our drinks nor check to see if we needed anything else for starters. She we finished our meal we went to the register to pay. Heres the picture of my family ... I am an active Army Senior Noncommissioned Officer, my wife 5 foot one and 120 pounds soaking wet. Needlesstosay, after paying we noticed the bill was more than they claimed the cost of their buffet was! Especially, considering that by law they shouldnt charge four our daughter. The owner who boasts and makes it known tha he is a retired Air Force Chief and his Korean wife had charged us for three adults! When I went back in she refused to refund the difference because she felt I had ate too much! We too live in the surrounding community and as a result of their terrible service and dishonest practices will never eat at Aw Dang again...plus as a soon to be military retired myself I frown upon those who no longer wear the uniform who dont let it go! Be proud of your service, but move on. The owner actually gets upset when you park in his self claimed parking space while his Korean wife makes sure to inform everyone that her husbnd who malingers around the restruant with a sour puss face is a chief! I highly suggest not frquenting Aw Dang!

Went specifically there to order Vietnamese food but apparently it seems as if they never get orders off that menu which was totally separate from their main menu. Ordered some Pho, a traditional Vietnamese soup which pretty much consists of chicken broth, noodles and meat. Was told that they currently didnt have any so it was pretty upsetting that they didnt even have that. So our waiter offered us some other dish that he said was good and he offered it to others. I can see why when they bring in $13 dollars for a dish that tastes like it came straight off the buffet line. Wasnt worth the money at all. Food wasnt great unless you like buffet tasting food thats expensive. The staff was friendly, atmosphere was beautiful but they should put more so much more effort into the food.

My wife and I tried this place on the recommendation of a friend. What a mistake! I ordered Shrimp Egg Foo Young and my wife ordered Shrimp Lo Mein. When supper arrived the Egg Foo Young was like nothing I had ever seen. There were three round flat patties approx. 4" in diameter, that was nothing more then ground up rice with no soy beans at all. Looked like they were made and shaped before hand and deep fried. they had no taste whatsoever. Saw the waitress twice. My wifes supper had 5-6 shrimp in it. Service was not good and the food was terrible. Could gave gone to Arbys and gotten better. And the price, Ha!, that is another story unto itself. We will not be returning AT ALL!

We had a wonderful experience at Aw Dang. Our server was kind and efficient. The food was delicious and huge portions. We took home our leftovers for 2 additional meals. Fried bananas at the end of our meal were a wonderful surprise and tasted fantastic. The décor inside is beautiful, combining Asian and American tradition. The owner was putting up Christmas decorations! Great ambiance and a very cozy, comfortable feeling. The owner came to our table and chatted with us for awhile. Met her spouse on our way out. I love the feel of locally owned businesses. I can tell that they love what they do and have worked hard to maintain a great, respectable business. We will be back.

Im not even going to mention the mediocre service. The food sucks! Most people dont know good Chinese food and thats a shame. It should not be swimming in sauce and full of sugar! Not everything should be sweet. Its like they have one sauce for most of their dishes and it is way too sweet and they may add something to it just to make it a little different. Never again will I eat there! Unfortunately I have tried many Chinese restaurants around here and I have no good reviews for they all think its ok to serve your food swimming in sweet sauce! Yuk!

I love Chinese food and have tasted quite a few dishes in many restaurants in California, Arizona, Florida and Texas (Dallas, Houston and local San Antonio). I came to try restaurant based on reviews and a family member recommendation. I had the combination fried rice (seemed undercooked) and Sesame chicken and both were just okay, nothing special and I dont plan to return. There are other restaurants better in taste for example Royal Inn Oriental Cousine. I did like the decor and service was okay.

This place was terrible!! The staff was terrible, the food tasted like it was prefrozen. They had the sesame shrimp on special but still charged full price. When i asked about it they said "oh, it is on special, it comes with a soup." That doesnt sound like a special plate to me! Also, people were calling in to-go orders and the man answering the phone was acting like he didnt wanna take orders, before he would answer he would say," ughhh, stop calling me people!!" Just a very bad dinner all in all!

I didnt know that they had a lunch buffet on Wednesday and admittedly got there too late for the food to be especially fresh. (I got there at 1:30, when the buffet closes at 2:30.) In their favor, when I asked about the hot and sour soup, which was empty, the waitress brought me a cup from the kitchen. She was very attentive, and all of the staff seemed very nice. It was a much smaller buffet than I am accustomed to, though, and the price was higher, so I doubt that Ill return.
