The feature that impressed me most about Folc was the spic n span feel of the place with lots of room in the dining area and decent natural lighting from the store front windows.. The decorations and interior are minimalist with a dash of rustic resulting from the two stacks of cut wood in metal racks bordering the front door. We were here for the burger. It took me a bit of cajoling to persuade my wife to go for an $18 hamburger, but she finally acquiesced. However, once she read the ingredients, the search was on for an alternative. She is more of a purist and not much into experimentation or fusion efforts by chefs to finagle new flavors and textures into classic foods. She was pleased to discover that the special was red snapper and selected it. $18 seems to be the magic number here as it applied to the special as well as the burger. The fish was excellent topped with frilly greens and plated on a bed of sauteed squash tidbits and cut petite shou (brussel sprouts) sections with a good balsamic and oil sauce. I figured that my burger was going to require a Carol Burnett sized mouth to engage the burger and I was right. I tried one jaw popping bite and had egg yolk shooting out the side of the burger and down my hands. "More napkins, please!" There was a slight smokey flavor to the brisket and pork belly combination followed by the sharp vinegar taste of the pickle slice and the sweet ending from the light russian-like dressing. It was a strangely pleasing combination though I am usually a savory kind of guy with a "keep the sweet off the meat" motto. Probably as a result of the pork belly and egg, I felt like I ought to be eating this dish for breakfast. And the chef would probably laugh, but the pork belly needs to be fried crisp like bacon for me. Otherwise you are eating a pretty big hunk of barely cooked fat. Some folks call this unctuous, but to me its just underdone fatback. The bun seemed a little stale or dried out and somewhat crumbly as well. The fingerling potatoes were very good and well seasoned. Just when you pick up your potato eating rhythm, however, the potatoes run out as you are given about 5 medium to small hunks on the plate!?. Sorry Texas Monthly, but for me, you missed the boat by a couple of days and a different ocean. In a category of strictly gourmet hamburgers (whatever that might be), the TM rating might hold a little more water. This burger was mostly assembled with quality ingredients and well prepared, but the final delivery of product taste was no where No. 1 . . .in the state?!?!?!?! I mean come on! But, what do I know as I am just your average diner who happens to think Chris Madrids Cheddar Cheezy with bacon added is nirvanah (and you get way more than 5 fries)!

After being featured in Texas Monthly as the best burger in Texas, I thought I had to give it a try. Unfortunately I could not make it past the hostess. I decided to try Folc for lunch, I arrived around 1:00 pm, and noticed five empty tables, after being called up by the hostess he informed me that he could not seat me because I did not have a reservation, I pointed out the five empty tables and he told me all five were reserved yet their parties had not yet arrived even though it was 1.5hr before closing. I then pointed at another table which had just become unoccupied but had yet to be cleaned, he told me that table was not reserved and he would seat me immediately. After waiting 10-15min for the table to be cleaned the hostess then sent a waitress to inform us that the table was suddenly reserved by another party (this is now about 1hr before closing and they were still reserving tables for lunch even though I had already been waiting quite some to be seated at a table that was already empty when I arrived). The waitress than informed me that I would be seated after 30 min, I guess the tables would magically become available and no longer reserved after 30 min. I did not understand the show that hostess put on, with having me wait, promise me a table, then deny me a table, just to tell me to wait a few more minutes and a table would magically lose its reservation, but keep in mind the restaurant closes at 2:30 so no promises on me actually eating. After looking around the restaurant, I guess the deciding factor was whether or not I fit the artificial "upper class" ambiance they were trying to achieve. For those of you who like a bit green snob and conceit with your burger than this is the restaurant for you, just make sure you take designer look and leave your pride at home. P.S: I forced to leave at least a 1 star review.

Like most creative individuals it would seem this chef may be tired of constantly recreating his award winning work. At the time of our visit the lunch menu consisted of two fresh salads, a bar-b-que chicken sandwich and the ground brisket burger. The chef was nice enough to add a small portion of excellently prepared chicken to his house salad for my spouse. My burger came medium well - well, which in my opinion is a bit overcooked, and did not seem to represent the chefs best effort. I would typically refrain from giving an establishment a low rating based on one visit, but as we were only visiting San Antonio and the prices may be too step for casual visitors, I will have to be blunt. This establishment has the potential to be a great eatery, but wait for the buzz of the best burger in Texas to die down.

First and last time I go. Location is terrible to find parking. I parked down the block and on my way to the building I saw upset customers returning to their vehicles. When I got there the host asked me if I have a reservation which I didnt so I was turned away. There was about 20% of empty tables. I ask could I atleast have it to go and he said their kitchen is tie up and have a 45 min wait time. So I return to my vehicles and tried to warn other customers walking blocks to the restaurant unless you have a reservation they wont serve you.

Tried the frog legs, sweet breads, fried chicken, bottom sirloin and gnocchi. The place had good ambience and great service. Thats about it. Chicken and frog legs under season, not even salt. Beef was old and simple. Best thing was the gnocchi. Its been months since I go out and have a bad experience. Too bad, had great expectations, never coming back.

The snitzel at brunch was amazing! Service was attentive and happy. Prices were reasonable ~$16 a plate for a very large portion. I would have like to see more plant based options on the brunch menu but I cant speak to their lunch or dinner menu.

Nothing on their website says "reservations necessary". Took a Lyft from downtown ($14) arrived at 1pm to be told that it was a 2 hour wait. (It closes at 2.30!) There were 3 tables empty with reserved signs on them. Hostess was pretty rude.

One of our favorite restaurants in San Antonio. We moved from San Francisco, and Folc has same ambiance and food quality as many hidden treasures in that great city. The schnitzel and fried chicken are always delicious.
