Lively, kid friendly place with decent food, but a great salad bar. Dog and Pony Grill is pretty typical as far as food choices youll have in Boerne, Texas. They offer a small variety of Americana food like burgers, fries, fish n chips etc.. The food is good, but not great, as one might expect when limited to a few grilled and fried options. What I go there for is the salad bar. No, I am not a biased vegetarian, but sometimes you just get that craving for a really great salad, and this is the place to satiate that craving. Their salad bar is open all day, and frequently refreshed. What makes it great is the variety it offers. Just about any vegetable you can imagine, nuts and seeds, hard boiled eggs a suitable variety of dressings and more. I rarely need to go back for seconds, (which you can do if you buy the big plate), and Im a pretty big guy. Rarely do I actually order from their kitchen, unless I have a craving for a burger or fish, which, as I said earlier, are good enough. Additionally, they have an outdoor play area in the back with seating, so you can keep an eye on your kids while you eat, or just chill. As with many Texas eateries, they have an assortment of bottled beer in a tub of ice near the entrance. Staff is relatively friendly, but most of them are teenagers, so dont expect too much. The owners, however, are very nice and occasionally come around to say hello and ask how everything is. Lastly, it can get a little hot in there in the summer, especially in the back. I dont know the situation with their ac, but that can sometimes be a little uncomfortable, however, not really that big a deal. Basically, the only reason we sometimes come here is for the salad bar and so our daughter can play in the kids area, which, by the way, are not easy to find in this town. If you have young children, just watch them close, as there are seemingly always bigger kids that are too old to be playing on the play deck, and with seemingly no parental supervision, that will mow you little one over if youre not careful. I gave this place 4 stars because of the generous salad bar, (pretty much the only one in this town), the kids area, and the reasonable prices. I forgot to mention that they frequently have live local bands play out back.

Great visit to the Dog and Pony Grill! Weve passed it a few times and glad we stopped in. It doesnt look like much from the road but what a great surprise inside! You order when you walk in the door, the man at the register advised us to grab the menu from the bucket versus looking at wall since the menu had more information. He also said to ask any questions, which I did and he happily answered them. Once you go around the corner, it opens up to three rooms of tables. Each room has a sign in it... Warm, Cool and Coolest. I smiled at that and appreciated it, Im always cold. The place is decorated with a funky little music bar/old barn type of feel. Theres a good salad bar in the middle room, a large outdoor bar and patio area and plenty of seating and a TV in all rooms. My husband had the steak and cheese which was large and had plenty of meat and cheese sauce. I had the lamb gyro and loved it. I found the place to have good quality food , good portions for the price and a nice feel to the place. We will definitely be back and bring visiting guests with us as well.

Ridiculously overpriced for burger, fries & drink. Appetizers are very overpriced also. Worst thing is that you have to order as you walk in the door. First time there we walked out because we got there @ 10:50 (they open @ 11) & one of the employees said very negative explitive & walked away. Second chance, took my 16 yr old son for lunch. Not many people, which was good, asked to sit to look @ menu, beautiful setting, had to get up to go back to front to order. Got app, 2 sandwiches w/ sides, beer, drink & 6 wings to go: over $70! Third chance: took mom & family (6 of us) for salad bar. Dad got one trip salad, added meat; Mom got all u can eat w/ hamburger; rest got one trip + sandwiches: $120. With no service (have to even go to cooks counter to pick up food!) this was outrageous. I live in Boerne, so like to give local business several chances, but very disappointed EVERY time.

I eat here at least once a week. The food is always great. I definitely have my go-to favorites, but I like how the specials menu is ever-changing. Aside from the regular menu, there are plenty other available options. Because I cant give half stars, I rounded up from 4.5 stars. The half star deduction is because the prices are a little high. Having said that, paying a slight premium for quality food is better than the alternative, paying normal prices for sub-par quality food. Thanks Dog & Pony and I hope yall stick around in this building unlike the other 16 restaurants that tried....

Dont let the weird name scare you (sorry, but it conjures up images of eating, well, yes dogs and ponies). That aside, the ambiance is rustic, funky, Texas Hill Country. Menu is limited with the emphasis of burgers. They offer a reasonable choice of burger options. Tons of iced beer from which to choose. Great idea to give a buzzer to customers rather than yelling our a name or number! Burgers were very good: toasted buns, hand-formed patties, and all fresh ingredients. Cooked to perfection. Fries were batter dipped, crunchy, and excellent. OVERALL: VERY GOOD. RECOMMENDED.

Positive first, fried cheese sticks ,AMAZING! Baked potatoe, UNBELEVIABLE! Kids menu, FANTASTIC! Great salad bar. Súper cold beer. The hot wings ARE the best I have ever had. Staff, are the most kind kids i have ever waited on me. However, the burgers do need a little help, on the thin side. But thats the only negative i have, kids outdoor area is unriveled. And the fries are so good, u will be back for more. Just what Boerne needed.

I really like the atmosphere and the food. I tried their hottest hamburger (forget the name). It was SO hot! Next time Ill try with the hot sauce on the side. I met with the owners and they were super friendly. They felt bad for me because I was in pain from eating their hot hamburger and they gave me a milk shake. I disagree with JC below. The food was awesome--the Mac and Cheese is really good. Try this place out!

Used to have excellent food at reasonable prices. No more. Worst Cubano I have ever had! Not worthy of a third world food cart. Very hard panini style french bread, of which there was more bread than the contents, and that was overwhelmed by the mustard. Tiniest piece of ham on the planet! And whoever thought a piece of pulled pork should go on a Cubano??? Basically paid $9 for stale kettle chips!

Ive been to Dog and Pony several times with my family and friends. I recently got the Turkey Burger and Sweet Potato Fries and they both were delicious!! I would go there again and order that and in fact I find myself craving the dish. I have also bought the Tortilla Soup and it was very fresh and good, needed some salt though. We love going here because the kids can play outside.
