Had Sushi Lunch at Hanaki 2 weeks ago; our Ahi Tower and Sushi was very good. The restaurant at lunch... full to the gills with lots of area workers. It was a "happening place" and I could tell why... The Food! The Prices! What’s not to like? Tonight my husband and I went for dinner at 6:30pm to take advantage of the $1.00 Sushi and the $4.00 rolls. There also were terrific cooked dinner specials written on a board at the entrance, intriguing dishes with uber-friendly prices. We ordered Sushi (Maguro, Fresh Salmon, Hamachi and Albacore - plus there are others) at $1.00 each; Spicy Salmon, Spicy Tuna and Spicy California Rolls - all $4.00 each!!! Hubby had a Tonkatsu dinner; it came with a robust cup of Miso Soup, and a nice green salad with an incredibly well prepared dressing. Green tea is complimentary and refilled regularly. The Sushi was very good, every piece tasty and well prepared. For us the star was the rolls - 8 luscious pieces in each, with lots of "stuffing" in their unique prep. The rolls tasted delicious and will be one of our favorites; at $4… $.50¢ cents apiece a bargain. Hanaki will be our neighborhood go-to Japanese restaurant from now on... Our eyes were larger than our stomachs so we brought home quite a few pieces of Rolls... Yum, leftovers. There is another Sushi restaurant near by - been there for many years - and was our usual Japanese spot... but even after many years, I have to say, Hanaki is so strong a contender - great food, great prices, whats not to like? Try it, you’ll like it.

Absolutely loved this place. They have a great bar with an extremely friendly chef. They play japanese music and TV. I am currently working on speaking Japanese and the people serving you will speak to you in full japanese if you ask and will also help you and not laugh. Its hard trying to learn japanese in practice when you have no where to go, this is the place to be! People love you here and treat you like you are family. Many of the waitresses will help me with my japanese when I am wrong and even teach me sometimes. The fish is fresh and very clean, you can taste it in the salmon and octopus. The seaweed salad, is a tiny bit harder than what I am used to but that comes down to chef preference. The bento boxes are neatly decorated and are well done. The only place I can think of that does the bento box this well is that place off forest and preston. They serve authentic japanese beer saporo being one of them. Prices are very cheap for what you get and the service is top! Highly recommended this place to anyone stopping by in the area as there needs to be more places like this that have this kind of service. Great place to be, love the place. I am a new regular after visiting once.

Bang for the buck! Traditional Japanese food and sushi, with only a few Americanized items on the menu. Hanakis killer feature is the sushi happy hour. From 5:30 to 7:00 (Mon-Thu), sushi pieces are $1, rolls are $4, and a tokkuri of hot sake (Ozeki) is $1.50. Plus, theres free tea and dessert. You can eat a quite respectable sushi dinner for $10 +tip. I dont know how they get fish at those prices, but its always fresh. The non-sushi fare is also excellent, with a decent range of appetizers and entrées. The restaurant is very clean and well-kept, despite being located in a run-down strip mall. The atmosphere is unpretentious. There are several flat-screen TVs on the wall, often tuned to Japanese TV (though childrens programs can be a slight annoyance). The all-Japanese staff are friendly, and youre always on a first-name basis with Yohbi-san, the humble Okinawan sushi chef. With the happy hour, Hanaki is a great place to relax after work on a regular basis (I do). In fact, this is a place other sushi chefs go to eat sushi. (Ive seen it happen more than once!) Bottom line: best affordable sushi in all of DFW.

I love the cuisine. I have spoken to the owner many times she speaks both Japanese and English. The food is a delicacy and also captures the taste of Japan. They have both Japanese TV and American. They have a special room for any business meetings or a big family reunion/big family. They have a sushi bar with a rating in the Japanese newspaper of the 2nd greatest Japanese cuisine in America. They have Japanese and English menus. I have enjoyed my time there so has my family who also agrees that it captures the taste of Japan. They have fresh ingredients and a salad always fresh to eat while waiting on the food. They had various celebrities come there including the voice of the main role in Dragon Ball Z and Rangers team members go there also. They have Japanese objects including a Japanese SHIPPED doll that is a Buddha in Japan. My mother enjoys the food while watching NHK and the amauter singing contest. She also likes the green tea which is actually real made Green Tea. I hope all of you enjoy it as much as me and my family do

I visited because of lots of great reviews. At first, I was little suspicious because of location. Located between a wig store called hair mart and sherwin-williams pain store. As soon as I went inside, I forgot about the location. Its one of the rare locations where Japanese man makes sushi. I ordered Tonkatsu Ramen (10.95) and an order of Salmon Sushi (2 pieces for 4.50) At first, sushi chef gives some cucumber in a tangy sauce. Good way to start with sushi. Then, theres 2 piece nigiri sushi. Rice:fish ratio was good, freshness of fish was exceeding expectation, size of fish was awesome. After that, another salad with ginger sauce. Salad was okay. And then Tonkatsu Ramen. 3 piece of pork, ramen, some mushrooms in ramen bowl. Ive never tried ramen at other place before but this was not meeting my expectation. Perhaps I have to try other places for ramen and see how they measure up. I totally recommend this place for sushi and will visit again.

I always saw this place on my way to work. Ive only lived in Irving for about 5 months and I was so enamored with how closely knit the different cultures were in the area. Im a lover of puerto rican food, african, and japanese and on that strip is all 3. Im not one to be weary on how a restaurant looks on the outside only how the food tastes and this place is as authentic japanese as youre going to get. They treat you like family in there and the chef always has some special item he wants to feed you just for coming in. The service is 6 stars and the food is even better I come in every day on my lunch break now and the prices make it even more worth it! Thank you!!!! Keep up this excellent food!

This is one of the closest places to authentic Japanese I can find after coming back from Japan. Many authentic dishes. ( If you like ramen, theirs is much better than chain store. Real authentic chashu; not the frozen stuff.) Free ice cream. Free green tea. ( Also, if you liked Mr. Max before, come here. ) Wonderful Japanese staff. I regularly see mostly Japanese customers, too. Go where the Japanese go. Go to Hanaki. (I go often.) おいしい (≧∇≦*)
