Big State Fountain and Grill Irving Texas. We were excited to go. However. We sat for 20 minutes before anyone even asked for drinks. Once we ordered 15 minutes later.they stop serving breakfast at 1030 or so menu says..went for breakfast... Ordered a burger and hot dog...we sat there 25 more minutes. .drinks ran out...still no food...we left...horrible place. Stinks..doesnt smell like a restaurant. .The services are horrible. See the girl leaning...Cook had this dirty rag right there. See photo...maybe Rick Fairless should stick to bikers bars..His waitresses look like they work at the bar too...Surely a disheartening scenario for the big state fountain...been in Irving since 1948..wow..totally wasted morning. ..came back home made a sandwich...but the ride was good... Totally a horrible place..nasty for a new remodel...people looked nasty..Cooks looked nasty..inexperienced..more worried about talking to waitresses than cooking..waitresses were struggling to wait on limited crowd..wasnt a line or anything but 5 or 6 waitresses could keep up with a counter and 15 or so tables..The Smell going in was definitely a deal breaker but trying to give Fairless a chance because we are riders as well...but the nastiness of the people working and their serving and cooking habits tells me NOBODY is really paying attention..Its sort of being run like his bar..Well drunk folks dont care about cleanliness or good service or the smell of the establishment...very sad...WOW

I was excited to find out they were going to turn this historic building into a 50 style diner. I live less than a mile from the place, and thought it would be a nice addition to the neighborhood. Boy was I wrong. I was very dismayed to find out that this restaurant does not allow service dogs to accompany their owners inside the building. I was asked for proof that my dog actually performs tasks for me to assist with my disability. Not only is that wrong, it is also illegal. I asked the manager, Chelsey, if she would allow my service animal to accompany me inside, and she said not without proof that he is a service animal. She also stated that it was an ordinance through the City of Irving. Despite numerous phone calls, and searches, no one was able to find any such ordinance for Irving. I might understand questioning someone about their dog if the dog is misbehaving, or looks generally unkempt, but she hadnt even laid eyes on him, yet. Apparently, Rick should stick to biker bars, or hire a different crew to run the restaurant instead of sending people from the bar. My service dog and I will gladly take our business to a more friendly establishment.

The old store was classic and iconic and I had been visiting for 15 years. Cheryl (waitress) and Leland (cook) are awesome. I loved the food, the service, the atmosphere and the prices were reasonable. The new store is larger, newer and cooler looking. That is all of the good stuff. The new experience is disorganized, overpriced, and already dirty feeling. Many of the new employees seem to lack training and experience. Who is the leader and why are they not leading? With the addition of a liquor license (they are seeking), it will only go downhill more quickly. This is not the Big State of old and is quite unsatisfactory. The potential of a fantastic new place was great. Unfortunately, this place is a huge disappointment. Save yourself time, money and the disappointment and visit another place like The Rainbow Grill in Carrolton, Griff’s Hamburger in Irving or Off-Site Kitchen in Dallas. Anyone of these is a better experience and a better value. I will not be back to the “new” Big State.

Quality is what Big State is about. The standard Cheese burger was simply fresh and homemade tasting. The bun just made it. They make homemade potato chips. The ones we got were a little old and the kitchen manager said throw those away, here are fresh ones. She was on top of things. I heard her say to the line cook, "we cant serve old chips". This place has the Classic Car Cruise In every Saturday from 6-9 pm. I will be going back again and again. Downtown Irving where BSFG is, it is quaint and small town and homey feeling. Just a nice place to visit and get a great burger! You have got to come out and be part of this. It will be like "a day of vacation" Dean

I have lived in Irving for 3 years now and I can truly say that Ive wasted those three years by not coming to eat at Big State Fountain Grill sooner! The food was amazing and the prices are even better. My family got a variety of dishes... the salad was huge, the chicken salad sandwich was a unique recipe (I think they used some pineapple), and the grilled bologna was amazing. The food was so good that we decided to come back again tomorrow for breakfast (only served till 10:30 FYI).

Used to eat at the lunch counter when this was a mom and pop pharmacy. Was very sad to see the pharmacy go, but then the restaurant opened, and the food is similar, but with more menu items. Old-fashioned, nostalgia-themed restaurant with great food (even vegetarian options). Fancy old-fashioned sodas. Walking distance from the Downtown Irving TRE/bus station.

Good food, but recently not as good as before I think different cook or food. Waitstaff usually friendly, but we did get one that was rude. Then lied about a question we asked instead of saying I dont know let me check. We went to another employee and asked same question with the true answer yes. Did not like that.

I loved this place. As an archaeologist, the historic photos on the wall immediately caught my attention. I couldnt wait to finish eating to look at some more. The Patti Melt was perfect! The food seems to be all good and the look/feel of the place reminds me of the old lunch-counter experience from the 70s

One of the only two original soda fountain grills still operating in Dallas County, serving grilled cheese sandwiches and burgers and desserts including ice cream shakes, malts, and sundaes. Music from a jukebox in a cute market full of tchotchkes. Walking distance from the TRE.

This old fountain has excellent food, both for breakfast and dinners. You cant beat the atmosphere, history, and cool little shop with vintage candy that this place has to offer. Pro tip: If you like malt shakes, this is the place - theyll even add more malt for you if you ask.

Nostalgic soda fountain/diner in downtown Irving. Good food, old fashion sodas. Excellent patty melt on rye (swiss cheese, grilled onions, I add blue cheese crumbles & bacon...yum!). Best house made potato chips. Gotta try it!!!

This is not just a drug store with personal service, it also has an old soda fountain and restaurant. It is one of the places to see and be seen in the Heritage District for lunch. Grab a burger or their famous chili.

"Omelette" was flat, square, looked like shiny plastic, rubbery, and dripping with oil. That was legitimately the worst Omelette Ive ever eaten. Im not even sure there were actual eggs in it. Bacon was good though.
